i have 2 types of smokers/grill...i have the pellet ran Treager, and the charcoal BIG Green Egg....we cook competively during the summers. I like them both...both have there plus sides...cant go wrong with either of these...they are alittle pricey but we use ours all the time...even in the winter:)....they are an extension of our kitchen...pizzas, cookies, and even cakes....im addicted...

pull out your pipe and see how much creosote you have...if your plugged then it will affect your draft....i bet your system is plugged....call a chimney sweep...a professional chimney cleaner...around here a sweep will cost $60-$100.00.....well worth it....make sure he is certified....our chimney guy is a fireman/chimney sweep....good combination.......oak/hickory is great wood to burn...it burns hot.....as long as it is dry...we also go to a pallet company and cut up pallets.....not alot of wood that burns long but creates good heat that will burn out creosote....That is what i would do and we have been burning wood for our entire life.....just saying

well i am guessing that oil substance is creasote (sp).....what kind of wood are you burning?

The bug house mentioned how he stacked his wood pile and get me thinking it would be fun to see what others woodstoves/fireplaces look like....we just got ours re-done. We used to have a fireplace but switched to the wood stove awhile back....say 5 years ago....I promised my wife i would redo the stone work so I replaced the white Indiana limestone with fieldstone...then i cut and canted the mantle (solid white oak).....put slate down as our hearth....more air flow and keeps us warm... kidd
