  1. Re: Broadheads right - fieldpoints left Thanks for the great help. I had already aligned the broadheads with the fletchings and spun the broadheads on the shaft to check the alignment. The link buckee provided to NAP was helpful. I moved the arrow rest slightly to the left and it brought the groups much closer together. I made a slight windage adjustment to the sight and that seems to have taken care of that problem. Thanks again
  2. While practicing I have found that my broadheads and fieldpoints are grouping about 6 inches apart at 30 yards. The elevation is the same, just the azimuth is off. I am getting 3-4 inch groups with both. I would just like them to group a little closer. Any suggestions?????
  3. Re: Encore Questions AJ I have chronograped my encore at 2180 fps shooting three of the 50 grain pyrodex behind the barnes bullet. When I switched to the triple seven and gained about 120 FPS of velocity. I have shot the hornady XTP ML bullets with sabot and found they shoot about 50 fps slower than the barnes with the same powder. I would guess the fit of the bullet/sabot combination in the bore of the gun makes can make a difference in the velocity.
  4. Re: Encore Questions I have been shooting my encore recently getting it sighted in. I am shooting 3 of the 50 grain triple seven pellets behind a 250 grain barnes expander bullet. This will shoot a 3 shot group of 1.5", and I have choreographed this at 2300 FPS. Sighted in 2.5" high at 100 yards, the bullet is 3" low at 200. At 200 yards the bullet is still packing 1350 ft. lbs of energy. I have not shot an animal at 200 yards, but probably would if the conditions were right. Last year I shot a buck at 140 yards, the shot broke both shoulders and the buck dropped in his tracks. I hope this helps, good luck.
  5. Re: gps I like the Garmin GPS units also. I have had several over the years. The etrex Vista and the etrex Legend are both very good units. You can now get these models with color screens. The unit I am now using is the GPSMAP60C, it has a color screen that is bigger than the etrex models. I can read the screen without my reading glasses. I travel a lot and the 60C has an auto routing feature that is a big help. The Mapsource software is a must for me, I have the Mapsource topo and street maps. At their website they offer free software upgrades for their GPS units and mapsource software. Visit the Garmin website at www.GARMIN.COM
  6. Re: Is my arrow weight and KE enough? Kenetic energy is a function of the overall mass of the arrow, including broadhead and the velocity of the arrow. So you need to know the speed of the arrow from your bow. Many pro shops will let you chronograph your setup. Once you know your arrow speed use the following formula to calculate the KE. G=Grains of arrow wieght including broadhead V=velocity KE=(G*V*V)/450800
  7. Just wondering if anyone on the forum is a member of a hunting club that is associated with the AWA? If so, do you believe it is worth the cost to be a member? Has the hunting land been as good as advertised?
  8. Re: Oklahoma Deer Herd Talk ( Okies Read ) I started hunting deer in Oklahoma while in high school in the mid 1970s. I remember the state setting a record harvest of 15,000 deer. I find the number of deer we currently have in the state remarkable. In the 70s and early 80s much of the state was nearly void of deer and just seeing a deer was something special. From 1975 through 2000 there was a new harvest record set every year until we reached a harvest of 100, 000 animals. It can not continue to grow forever, there is only a limited (and shrinking) amount of habitat. I would be surprised if the total harvest drops to 70,000 this year, but if it does I am sure the good folks at the OWD will make the necessary changes in the regulations to turn things around again. I have a lot of confidence in OWD due to the good job they have done in the past. As for my year I have added 4 to the harvest totals I have taken 2 does with bow, 1 buck each with ML and rifle. I saw slightly fewer deer this year, but I would suggest the hot weather during ML season and warm rifle season did not help the hunting. My only suggestion to OWD is that I would like to see a 3 point or better on one side antler point restriction.

    Rednecks?

According to the University of Nebraska Head Football coach those of us who support Sooner football are nothing but a bunch of redneck hillbillies. Now you telling me there is a perception that bowhunters are rednecks. When one person calls you a redneck, no big deal, but now I am starting to get a complex.
