Re: ford or tranny mechs??? [ QUOTE ] Checking the breather would be step 1 If all appears ok, have a competent shop check the trans cooler. It is possible it could be partially plugged or totally plugged causing your problem. You may not want to hear this, but if you were revving the engine quite a bit AND the crankshaft had some excess end play you may be putting the front [ converter ] seal into a strain. Fords with AOD are somewhat noted for this, especially trucks used for plowing. Have a competent tech. check this also. Lynn I edited this because I noticed your location. I wouldn't advise adding any chemical which is thicker than the original fluid. In really cold weather you can risk poor lube at cold start up. Leave the wonder drugs to the used car jockey who wants a quick, easy fix to dump his junk. [/ QUOTE ]Agree 100% with this advice. Worn thrust bearings for the crankshaft was my first thought.

Re: Pennsylvania Deer Population Thankyou , LOL...I guess as long as there's 3 deer & 2 hunters there'll be different viewpoints. God's Blessed me with 35 years(so far) of hunting all over central & western PA and 7 years as a volunteer HTE instructor. I remember the days of seeing 25 deer in a herd & tons of small game....but almost never saw turkeys/bear/coyotes/Bald eagles/ otters. Anymore I enjoy getting occassional glimpes of all the above. I appreciate the passion each of the folks posting have for our deer hunting heritage regardless of thier view, because they care about the sport. I'd enjoy sharing a campfire with you guys sometime listening to a yote chorus....about the first of Nov 07 would be good! ...remember that a glass 1/2 empty is still 1/2 full eh?

Re: Pennsylvania Deer Population [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Deer hunting in PA has changed a lot in the past few years but it's still a terrific experience! [/ QUOTE ] Do you think getting a kid out for the season and NOT SEEING any deer will keep his interests??? NO! My father was always a DEER MAGNET! This is the first time in all my hunting life (32 years BTW) he has not seen a single deer in the two weeks of the rifle season! In the 12 total days of rifle season, he was out I believe 9 or 10 days, and seen NOTHING! How the HECK do you think that a kid who sees nothing will want to keep hunting? The game has to be there for there interest! No game, no interest! Simple as that! [/ QUOTE ] With total respect to you and your father as hunters and outdoorsmen....yes it's getting tougher to find decent numbers of deer. Getting kids interested in hunting has always been a top priority with me as a Hunters Ed. Instructor. Intersestingly enough, my dad started us out hunting squirrels & bunnies back when there were more deer because he knew we'd get more involvement. He started us fishing for Bluegills instead of Walleyes for the same reason. When I talk to hunters I bump into out in the woods it's amazing to listen to their observations. Kids will excitedly tell you about the 5 squirrels, 2 grouse, and grey fox they saw, while many older hunters will share that they didn't see a *!#&! thing. I believe getting kids interested depends much more on the additudes they see expressed through their mentors. I realize I just upset some of you hunters that see things based on different viewpoints but I'll stand by my view. Sorry to step on toes...I hope you find what you're seeking in the deer hunting realm of PA. BTW- I hunt 2G up in the mountians that lays claim to the lowest deer population in the state and have pics of awesome hunts up there the last 6 years. [/ QUOTE ] You are not stepping on anyones toes big guy you are just terribly misinformed. The PGC has bought into the Gary Alt theme and is messing up our hunting in a very terrible and trumatic way. It will not take 5 or 10 years, but if they don't do something different right now you will see the effects next year and it will only get worse. We have areas of PA that are loaded with deer and a lot of areas with very little deer, but the PGC insists on giving those with and without the same number of doe permits each and every year. They don't have a clue. Andy [/ QUOTE ] Hi Andy, Not sure at what point of my posts you came to the conclusion that I'm in support of current deer management programs. I believe AR should be a personal choice . If a hunter decides a nice fat 4 point is a trophy to him...Great & God bless em. Likewise I get sick reading posts about guys killing several doe each year just because a few WMU has unlimited licenses. My statements were directed to the idea that kids won't enjoy hunting if they don't see deer. They are impacted most by the additudes they see displayed by older hunters. As far as being mis-informed....maybe, because I don't agree with PGC on such drastic HR implentations...but I have yet to see a sensible deer management program plan being presented by the hunting public either. Sure would be something to to see everyone agree on a set of realistic goals. I still say that PA deer hunting has changed a lot the last few years but is still a terrific experience>

Re: Pennsylvania Deer Population Yes, The herd reduction with liberal antlerlees lics increasing is having a dramatic effect on deer sightings by hunters. BUT, the last 2 years the weather conditions were terrible for hunter success. Heavy fog & monsoon rains shutdown the hunter success the opening week of last season, and this year it was unseasonably warm all season. More & more hunters are spending a good deal of time scouting/placing stands/setting trail cams/ making mock scrapes, etc.....in otherwords, educating deer as to hunter movements through their areas. Many hunters would increase their chances to scout several areas once(but througholy)as to possible stand location/food sources/droppings/rubs, than a favorite spot several times. A mature doe that's survived a couple hunting seasons is tougher to harvest than most bucks in my opinion. Deer hunting in PA has changed a lot in the past few years but it's still a terrific experience!

Re: Pennsylvania Hunting ???\'s [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The absolute best time to see bucks moving is ...LOL- in bear season(seriously) [/ QUOTE ] that is such a true statement. i saw my ownly shooter buck this year during bear season. he was a 135" 8 pointer. he evaded me all during archery and during rifle. darn smart animals [/ QUOTE ] I saw my 8 point the 2nd morning of bear season at 18 yards and got the priviledge of observing him for several minutes. I was again blessed to see him the 1st afternoon of rifle season at about 125 yds....racing towards my crosshairs! 17 1/2" inside spread with a 44" chest measurment .

Re: Pennsylvania Hunting ???\'s There's some decent hunting in several areas with good public access in both NC & NW PA. The absolute best time to see bucks moving is ...LOL- in bear season(seriously). The last 2 weeks of archery can be exciting if cold weather sets in. If I was going to really spend a week in PA for deer it would be the first week of rifle season for numerous reasons. #1- you can use a bow, muzzleloader, crossbow, shotgun, or rifle during this time WITHOUT having to buy any other tags or permits other than the general hunting lic. Any other time is special regs. specific....ie..archery season- you need a gen. lic. & an archery license. Same for the muzzleloader seasons. #2- If it's your first trip in you can really have a better chance to look around at the hunting pressure in different areas. I've taken several trophy buck in WMU 2G on unposted mountian land and State Forest areas, which many PA hunters will admit may be the toughest management unit to hunt in PA. But, I sure spend alot boot leather time locating productive food sources(White Oaks mostly) & travel corridors. I've found that my best scouting is actually during bear season the week of Thanksgiving ...besides, who wants to have drag a heavy stinky ol' bear anyway when you can watch bucks chasing doe! I also strongly believe that ya can't outgive God when it comes to Blessings, so I try to help others whenever possible. I'd be glad to email you pics of some of the bucks I 've harvested & maybe give you some tips locating a possible hunting areas(no guarantee success implied)...drop me a PM if you're interested- Phil

Re: finally got a camp Love driving through the ANF. We pass through there several times each season on our way up to hunt deer on the family farm between Warren & Corry. Congrats on a beautiful location!

Re: Michigan Deer Hunting ? Thanks, would love to come out for archery but have plans set for hunting PA's rut so hopefully the muzzleloader will be fun to try.

My mom & stepdad live in Huron County MI. Some farmer friends of their's found out we love to deerhunt and extended an invitation for me to come out from PA for the firearm opening week. I know that it's in the shotgun only zone but wondered if a muzzleloader can be used in these areas. Since the only expense is lic. & transportation, I think I'm going to take the offer. Any tips would be appreciated!

Re: Mechanics: Computer Readout Question I believe Shawn is right about the O2 sensor. I'd bet that the software in your scantool isn't a "perfect match" with the Kia diagnostics. Do yourself a favor and unplug the O2 sensor connector closest to the cyl. head with the scan tool connected and see if the fault code changes or gives you an additional code. If it remains the same code then ya got er whipped!

Re: What was your first car 68 olds 442. Went through 3 sets of rear tires in 8 months then the tranny went....mechanic told the problem was in the gas pedal !

Re: Mechanics--Help a brother out I guess I qualify ....been wrenching since Davy Crockett took off for Texas on one of our "fleet mules" from the shop. First - on newer vehicles NEVER disconnect either battery cable with the engine running as you could easily damage the computer or the alternator. Either substitute a known good battery to test the charging system or install a new battery if your unsure. Batteries are a lot cheaper to replace than anything else. If you need to jump a battery- connect the positive cables 1st, then connect the negative from the good battery to an engine ground...not the old battery as it can explode. I've seen this many times(especially cold weather). Hate to see a fellow hunter damage their eyesight in a flash !

Re: Tired of hearing PA Hunters complain! Now here's the beauty of last year's harvest..... Up until last season, deer harvests were determined by the PGC on report cards being sent in by only 50% of the successful hunters. example 100,000 cards turned in equals 200,000 deer killed. Now last year it was suddenly decided by the PGC that only 40 % send in cards....so do the math using last year's harvests. 233,890 antlerless based on 93,556 cards (new 40%) 124,410 buck based on 49,764 cards. Using the formula of 50% from previous years the actual harvest would have shown 187,112 antlerless and 99,528 buck. You see if they would have used the same formula from all previous years, it would have showed an even more dramatic dropoff in deer numbers than what was released to the public. Lots of tracks being covered !!!!

Re: PA Hunters!! Doe tags!! Unforunately you don't have deerhunters working for a common goal as a whole. Archers want their season, muzzleloaders their's, rifle hunters theirs. The whole idea of AR & HR was to get the herd down to a more manageble size AND to let the bucks reach maturity. Archers get 6 weeks to hunt buck(including 2 weeks of the rut) before gunhunters or muzzleloaders. Try and educate hunters to leave the mature bucks have a chance to breed by giving those two weeks up....then duck & run as the yelling starts. Bottom line- no one wants to give up any of their season for the overall good. To many fractions to have any hope of real cooperation. LOL, who needs an election year for entertainment.

Re: PA Hunters!! Doe tags!! I hunt 2G for big buck up in the mountians and head up to 1B to hunt for doe on the family dairy farm. Hunted harder last year than ever and saw fewest deer ever but, peasoup fog the 1st day, monsoon rains the 2nd & 3rd days, sunny the 4th day, and a blizzard the 5th day all day dumped 19". Saw the fewest amount of hunters ever also. No crying though because it's called hunting...not killing. Wouldn't have traded the week with my son & buddy from CO for anything. They each harvested a trophy buck and I took a big yote & a doe up at the farm. Got some awesome photos.

A Christian Hunter's Devotions and Studies

Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Thanks for the welcome Buckee. No, the BO site seems to be history(at least the forums). Most of the folks wandered over to Hunting Resources or elsewhere.-Phil -
Re: French toast Here's my recipe for Ol' Phil's stuffed french toast: 1) Chop up a banana & an apple into small pieces. mix together with a tablespoon or so of sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon. 2)Take thick slices of french bread or Texas toast, and slit one edge open like a pork chop. Spoon some of the banana/apple mixture into the center of the bread(don't overstuff). 3) Dip pieces of bread into batter( use your own batter recipe if you like it) 4) Drop onto hot griddle coated with butter/or butter spray for the health nuts Cook to golden brown on both sides. 5) Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with syrup & a side of thick sliced Hickory smoked bacon. *Hope this earns me a camp cook spot at an elkhunt in the future!(at least as breakfast cook, cause I'll be hunting the rest of the day! )

A Christian Hunter's Devotions and Studies
htephil replied to TreeWalker's topic in The Spiritual Camp
Re: A Christian Hunter\'s Devotions and Studies Really good forum folks ! I was watching Realtree Outdoors on ESPN this morning and was Blessed to see David Blandon Thanking Jesus for a wonderful hunt. I felt like visiting the forum and it's great to read several of the posts here. Lots of solid ground here. I reconize a few of the names from the old Bushnell board and I'm glad to see an active Christian Forum. Several years ago I was asking God to make His Word become alive to me and shortly afterwards I read Job 12:7-10 and The Holy Spirit immediately spoke to my heart that these were my life's verses, and that'd I'd spend the rest of my life learning the depths of those precious words. God continues to use everything I've ever learned in the outdoors to better understand Him and His amazing grace. May God Bless each of you today!- Phil
