  1. Re: deffinately different! Strut's right on the money about them looking up. Once while bow hunting deer five longbeards came thru the palmetto's. I just enjoyed the opportunity to watch their beards sway as we don't have a fall season. About 15 minutes later, a doe comes up and I take a shot of about 15 or 20 yards on her. She runs off, I get down and start searching thru the palmetto's for blood and my arrow when all of a sudden up comes one of those big toms. It nearly took my head off with one of his wings as he waited until I was nearly on him before he took off. Evidently he had seen me 15 min before and hunkered down. If I were you, I'd stick to sitting on the ground up against a big oak.

  3. I know they really have increased the population around the piedmont area. The mountains have always had turkeys. I see them all the time in the Nathalia Forest around Cherokee. All the old timey turkey hunting books actually revolved most stories around hunting in the eastern section.
  4. Re: NWTF National Convention - Nashville, TN My son and I will be there. If you see a big winter fat ole boy with a youngin' in top hats, stop us and I'll buy you a beer over those tall tales.
  5. Re: What gets you excited the most? I'd have to go with C, cuz if I can hear him spitting, he's close. Drumming, I've hear from quite a ways and that too tears me up cuz I can't tell the direction. My heart just nearly falls clear down to my gut and beats like a tommie drum. But they all make my heart race and if I'm lucky one day that'll be the cause for my ole ticker to fail and I can drift off to heaven hearing those sweet sounds of spring I so dearly love. Hopefully, though, I can take one with me
  6. Re: basic items for turkey? All of the above are true indeed but if you don't carry along a bucket full of patience, you might as well stay home. Good luck.
  7. Re: How early should one start to scout? never to early
  8. Re: A gobble in January? oh horney gobblers never give up
  9. Re: Go ahead...........torture me!! That'll get the blood flowin', won't it strut
  10. Re: Are Benelli\'s good for the money? The one I picked up in the store wasn't heavy. In fact I expect it will bruise you up pretty good being so light. Like Strut said, depends on how much money ya go. You can go Mossberg and have so dough in your pocket for steaks at camp and still kill birds plenty.
  11. Re: Any opinions on this gun??? My son downed two with one shot from this gun at 42 yards. He was using loads and choke from Nitro Ammo.
  12. Re: Big Beaver LOL Nice beaver. My son and I are going to try trapping for the first time this winter. Going to use connibears and if we are lucky we are going to bait up for the bobcats with the beaver meat.
  13. Re: Help with Coyote and Bobcat populations! Me, I'm going trapping for the critters, this year, in conjunction with my newfound hobbie of mountain man rendevous.
  14. Re: Anybody Getting That Itch??? Yup, ready to smoke 'em this spring.
  15. Re: According to JIm tv show Georgia allows crossbow hunting for turks.
  16. Re: Turkeys where turkey aren\'t suppsoe to be! Porch turkeys, huh? Don't worry they'll be long gone come huntin' season.
  17. Re: According to JIm tv show It was funny, nevertheless, especially when he was so proud to have "Forded" it. I loved it when the turkey popped out of the roaster and started giving him.........
  18. Here's hoping everyone got to enjoy their own bird this year at the Thanksgiving turkey table. I was lucky again this year and bit right into a 7.5 bb. It's worth the pain, every year. Right boys!

    NRA

I was surprised that the poll on NRA membership is going the way it is. 69% no, thusfar. That's ridiculous and dangerous, I might add. The NRA is our number one voice for gun rights in America and gun rights equate to hunting rights in my view. I should hope if you have a hunting friend not in the NRA, that you should encourage him to join. We can all spare 25 dollars for a years membership. We need the NRA regardless of some of their views and if you disagree with them. They are the most powerful lobby in Washington and we need to keep it that way and they need our funds. Please Join.
  20. Re: Haas tabs Bliss to replace W. Burton Mark these words, Haas will never succeed until they learn to act like Ward Burton. God Bless Ward and hopefully more of his kind will fill this world. He's a good joe, for sure.
  21. Re: \"Albino\" Turkey Heard of a white wild tom but never a hen. A good taxidermist should be able to sew her up for you. Congrats.
  22. Re: Unreal It's all too convenient and a little shady to me, sometimes. I believe the "call" was on!
  23. These two sports are getting way too much alike.
