Lightly used Shimano 50Mg in excellent working condition. Small boat rash on front left side of frame. Comes with original box, paperwork, oiler, dust cover, tool and all sizes of counter weights. Wanting to trade for Revo Winch in similar condition. Split the shipping costs.

Glaser round for home protection
Texan_Til_I_Die replied to philray's topic in Hand Guns & Accessories
Excellent stopping power as long as you aren't shooting through thick clothing. If you're using it in an automatic, be sure to check for proper functioning. Some autos don't like it. Its what the air marshals carry on planes. -
Should we hunt endangered species in order to save them?
Texan_Til_I_Die replied to Adjam5's topic in Lounge
It may already be too late. That court victory by the anti's has all but guaranteed the extinction of those three species. Personally, I think Texas should tell the feds and the anti's to go pee up a rope and keep allowing the hunts. BTW - I saw a nice herd of Oryx on my way to Amistad this weekend for a fishing trip. -
This is the last weekend of doe only season, but I don't need any more meat, so I think I'll sit this one out. Went hunting for one species or another 19 weeks in a row. Time to give it a rest.

...that this will be the first weekend since September that I haven't gone hunting for something. 19 weekends in a row. Maybe I should go anyway just to make it an even 20?

Its over for me except for shooting does, and I already have two. That's plenty for me.

BTW - Wars don't just end, they're won or lost. I think we need more time to determine how this one turned out.

Its sad that so many will jump to the conclusion that another person is a racist, bigot, homophobe, misogynist, or whatever label the MSM throws out, just because they subscribe to a traditional set of values, morals and patriotism. Dang that was a long convoluted sentence.....

Shot a couple of does over the weekend. I'll try to get my pics up on the entry thread later today.

Sounds like you're going to be busy. Just a casual observation, but down here in Texas almost all of the hunting themed shows are held during the Summer months. About the only big show I can think of that's in the Winter or Spring is the Dallas Safari Club. During the Winter and Spring we're mostly having boat and fishing themed shows.

Finally saw 2 decent bucks this weekend. I spotted them across a canyon at about 500 yards. I thought about taking a lob at the biggest one with the 7 mag, but there was a 10 mph cross wind and I didn't think I could pull it off. I watch them feed for about 10 minutes and then decided to try making a stalk on them. I dropped off into the canyon and lost sight of the deer. When I got to where I wanted to be, they had moved....down wind of course. As soon as they saw me they took off and the last sighting I had was their tails going over a hill at about 1/2 mile. Oh well, at least I know where they live. Also saw another smaller buck twice this weekend that was dragging a leg. If I see him again next week and he's still not walking on it, I'll probably shoot him for meat. I don't like shooting 1 and 2 year bucks, but in his case I'll make an exception.

Antler Restriction Upgrades
Texan_Til_I_Die replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Land & Wildlife Management
Antler restrictions, especially the state mandated type, will work if properly instituted, AND if there is a decent forage base and genetic potential already present. If you're missing either the nutrition or the genetics portion, no amount of AR's will ever produce much in the way of trophy potential. Here's some interesting reading from Texas' early attempts at AR's. Currently about 50% of the state is under the 13" AR rule. In most places, it's working well. In a few it's turned out badly. Just got back from 3 days at the ranch. Saw 6 or 7 small bucks, but nothing even close to a shooter. Still have 3 weeks of either sex season left and then 2 more weeks of doe/spike only after that. It's pretty depressing around here. Been hunting for 10 weeks without a single sighting of a shooter buck. Things aren't looking good right now.

Can't help you on the hail question, but here's my rule of thumb on full coverage vs liability. If the vehicle's value is something that I can write a check for, then I go with liability. I've got two trucks, one a fairly new Chevy Duramax and the other a 89 Chevy 4x4 that's my ranch truck. The 89 is only worth about $3000 so all I carry on it is liability.

Shot a doe, found a shed, dude fell out of a stand...
Texan_Til_I_Die replied to muggs's topic in Deer Hunting
I'll bet that "shed" got knocked off during a fight. Glad everyone is ok, congrats on the doe, now go get that biggun! -
Well, I'm still sitting on zero. The rut is wide open here, but I still haven't seen a shooter. We had an incredible amount of wind over the weekend. Lots of trees went down and I had a couple of stands blown apart. I doubt I'll get to deer hunt much, if any, next weekend. It's the opening of pheasant season and I always make a trip up to the Texas Panhandle for that. Congrats to all you guys that are getting their deer. I'll try to get something on the ground between now and the middle of January.

That shows how much they know about turkeys. BTW - They tried to get Turkey, TX to change its name to Tofurkey for Thanksgiving. They've obviously never been to Turkey and if they're smart they won't go there.
-
Very nice. Congrats!
-
Way to go team! Looks like everyone is having a good season but me. I still haven't seen anything close to a shooter. We're finally getting some slightly cooler temps. I might shoot a doe over Thanksgiving weekend if the bigger bucks keep hiding out.

One of the kids I take hunting uses a 243. I think he shoots the green box Remingtons. He shot this 8 point, it went down, jumped back up and staggered about 20 yards before falling over dead.

Just checked the weather for this weekend. Looks like it will be a balmy 80 with 30 mph south winds. I can barely contain myself. Someone hold me back.....sheesh! I don't think we're going to get ANY cool weather. Rut is on right now (I think), but all of the chasing is happening at night. OK, I'll quit whining now.

I didn't have much luck either. Saw a couple of mature bucks, but neither one had a decent set of antlers. One was a 7 point and the other a 6. I guess the drought we had all Spring and Summer has really taken it's toll on antler growth. Pretty depressing to see a 5 year old deer with a 7 point rack that might score 100 on a good day. I did have a really cool daytime encounter with a badger. Got some close up pics that I'll be posting up later.

Not much to tell yet from this season. Bow season ran the entire month of October and I saw exactly zero shooters. Did get one hog with my bow. Rifle season opened last weekend and Saturday we had a dust storm blow in. Saturday night we had an earthquake. Sunday was beautiful. And Monday we had another dust storm. I saw one decent 8 point locked down with a doe, but other than that just slickheads and teenagers. Saw about a dozen different bucks total. No response yet to the rattling, which is a bit unusual. By now, I can usually rattle up 2 or 3 every morning. Leaving today at noon to hunt through Sunday. Hoping for some decent weather and some responses to my rattling. It's my favorite way to hunt.
