  1. Thanks Steve... it was my timezone setting (probably the Mt. Dew also:D) Back to the "correct time"!
  2. Women are CRAZY! Since when??? :D:D Now... Psycho... I always knew, but CRAZY:p!
  3. Incredible deer! Congratulations... birthday presents like that don't come around every year! Oh yes, and happy belated birthday
  4. So I just made a post about "JERKY", and I see that the server is saying that my posting time is 0130PM (CLOSE)... How about 0732 AM? Is this a problem that has been around a while (and I am just slow), or is this something new? It also says (in my welcome box) that the last time I visited the site was on 11/27? Unless I am living in the twilight zone, I visited yesterday? What gives... throw me a bone BUCKEE!

    Jerky Friday

Well folks, It is time to fire up the smoker! I spent the day yesterday curing 15 # of meat so I could make the neighborhood smell good today! It is time to pull out the jerky gun and get after it... that is, after I slice up the "side" of bacon I cured yesterday. Never tried to cure my own "side" so I will be interested to see how that tastes? We will let you know, but I assure you... the jerky, well, I'm guessing Cam's lips are watering all the way up in Saskatoon, (it's that good) Now off to soak some chips!
  6. I'm still hung up on the Noodlin' thing??? What the....
  7. I would think that 117 is about right. People need to keep in mind, trophies come in many different shapes and sizes... I have a 115 that I cherish much more than my 150. Sentiment goes along ways when it comes to the "trophies" we have. There are not many of us who would scough that deer, there are probably fewer who would have to "nerve" to life our finger of the trigger if he walked under our stand. Many of these posts are right... it takes a heck of a lot of horn to make that cherished book!
  8. Long lost POST! This is what happens when a guy leaves the forum for a while! Aperfectly wonderful bottle of Maple syrup could have been mine!

    Im sick of...

I noticed early afternoon, yesterday... I probably got the message about 4 times... finally I clicked on an old address with a direct link to a specific thread.... that allowed me in. For a long period of time yesterday, the header bar (with all of the drop downs) would not load. I have had this problem at work also? I guess I'm not really sure what it is all about. Probably one of the reasons I quit visiting as much a year ago... then they switched servers! HERE WE GO AGAIN!

    Cant wait

Hey Chris... you're right! 1st season was rough, especially Saturday, and I talked to my Aunt whom has said that 2nd Season has been even worse! They said they will be out of power for 4 days, with over an inch of ICE! I'm glad we finished up down there when we did! Get your TOPO out. Chances are you know the crop rotations on the rest of your properties... any corn that has stubble up (and isn't ICE covered) where be where they are. It doesn't sound like "warm" is coming down there any time soon, so if you can think of an "easy" food source, that is where they will be. I know first season, during the first Ice storm, those deer were heavy in the corn fields... the other thing is, they are sitting VERY tight. Hope you have a bunch of luck!
  11. Rest of the story... As I mentioned, I had taken a few other deer. I dropped off the larger buck at the taxidermist on Sunday... I am planning on having the "shot off" tine repaired, so if anyone knows a good repair man let me know. Here are a few other pics from the Iowa hunt. The 10 pointer I was fortunate to harvest and a few of the doe. Thanks for all of the kind replies.
  12. Well, after a long deer season, I was able to put a tag on another deer for the wall! Iowa proved to be home to another wonderful hunt, and the old faithful "three oaks" came through with another beautiful animal! Credit must be given to Rosie and Marvin (my aunt and uncle) for opening their land and home, to my father and I. Although the start of the season was dismall at best (with over an inch of ice and rain), the season slowly shaped up, and I was able to start tagging deer! Sunday morning brought a light drizzle, and changing things up a little, I place a decoy on a corn field edge. After a series of rattles, I looked behind me to see a "nice" 10 point, coming in for battle. Once he was near the decoy, I was able to place a sound shot. The buck travled about 75 yards into the field then fell over. It was a good start to the day. A special thanks to my cousin for providing his tag for that deer! Monday started out as a challenge. Neither my father nor myself, had seen a large Iowa deer, to this point. We started making some small pushes, which produced no deer. We then decided that we would go cut up deer which we had taken over the previous two days. After cutting those deer up, we decided to make one more push, which again yielded zero deer. It was at this point, that my Father says to me... "I think I will drive back to "3 oaks" and see if there are any deer back there?" I smiled, and cheered him on, hoping that he would find another monster bedded under one of the trees. ("3 Oaks" is a sset of trees in the middle of a corn field, on a 2 square mile piece of ground. It is where I have bumped numerous large buck, and took a 135 class, 2 years ago). As the conversation ended, dad looks back and says, "no, you go back there... I don't know the best way in there without bumping deer all over." As dad headed off to sit in his stand, I didn't give it a second thought, I started off to "3 Oaks". As I pulled out of the driveway, onto the gravel road, I saw two doe, with a large buck behind them, getting ready to cross! They crossed the road right in front of me, but my gun was cased, and there was no way for me to get uncased, loaded, and into a good shooting spot, before they dissappeared. Long story short, I tried to get in front of that buck for over 2 miles, before I finally lost them on a stalk behind my Aunt and Uncle's House. As day light was winding down, I thought I would try to make it back to "3 Oaks". I jumped on the four-wheeler and headed to the area. On arrival, I quickly made my way over the field. Finally, I crested the last "knole" which placed me about 100 yards from the oaks. As I crested the hill, I observed a deer, breaking acrossed a field about 1/2 mile away, however, I didn't notice any deer under the oaks. Previous encounters here, have taught me to "walk all three trees". So I continued on. As I approached the trees (at about 40 yards), two doe jumped up and began to break across the field. I quickly shouldered my gun and began to track the does in my scope, however, as I did, this buck jumped up from the same bed. My scope quickly relocated to his shoulder and I was able to take this deer, after several shots! I must say, this is one of my best deer to date. 20" ISS, 22"OSS, triple split brow tines, mass galore (official length to come), 14 scorable points, 21" main beams, and significant character. The Broken right G-3 is a break from a shot. I was able to account for all of my shots, so this deer had a previous brush with death... I think this deer could have scored quite well, had that tine not been broken... don't get me wrong, I'll still keep him!
  13. Great bow buck.... wonderful looking deer! It is the lucky hat! Go SOX!
  14. Absolutely! I have off from Oct 26 - Nov 12, work 3 days, then am off for another week. work a couple more, then pack the truck and head off to Iowa for a week. It pays to save that vacation!!! Now if I can just find the "right" buck!
  15. I was fortunate to bag on two deer this past weekend! All in all it was fantabulous as I bagged on a nice doe and a nice 8 point. Both deer shot from the same stand, 10 minutes apart. Read the whole story on my web page: http://http://www.freewebs.com/aprilnbill/billyshuntingpage.htm Here is a picture of the two deer
  16. Russell, long time no talk! I didn't end up going (as I had worked the night before). I ended up going to a shoot in Sun Prarie WI... probably wasn't as nice, but at least I was flinging arrows!
  17. I too, just changed to the Scott Sabertooth, and I have no complaints about the release. Very comfortable and exceptionally responsive.
  18. lung buster... Lil Jons' in Marshall WI has a video setup... just shot it for the first time (it was a gasss!)... give me a PM, and we can meet up and run over there some time.
  19. Just wondering who might be making the trip to shoot? I actually am working, but think I might try the 3 hour drive down... it certainly sounds exciting! Any other takers?

    Guess what?

A big congratulations to you! Quite the achievement.
  21. Nice looking set-up... best of hunting this year!
  22. Congrats to the both of you!
  23. Didn't mean to cause a ruckus, Tony... You are a mean shooter... I don't think anyone would argue, that you are the best shooter on the forums. You also have a vast knowledge base to draw from. In addition, you are able to reflect on years of experience. Bottom line, many people (myself included) do not have that luxury. We come to Realtree post haste... and try and "fix" our problems. By then, your preachin' to the choir.
  24. thanks, I was wondering where it went???? such a loss!
