Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Bashing is a little strong Tedicast

Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Hey 5-Point, I've got 5 on the wall, all 8-pt or better, one 150 class buck killed in NC which is a rareity. Just since you asked, but those that do it for the thrill of the hunt and seeing "Big Boy" don't have to flash a picture to brag about it, especially a spike.

Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Agree to Disagree is the best policy Vermont Hunter. Maybe you can come down South sometime and harvest something with a rack ------------------------------>

Re: What do you consider a trophy ? I knew I'd get some flack from the Yankees tonight. But if you'll re-read my post you see where killing a mature buck is a trophy to "ME".

Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Tedicast, did that spike comment offend you, cause that deer you're dragging in the picture would explain it

Re: bass pro xp 32 Try shooting it from a tree stand and I'll bet you'll be able to tell a difference. While shooting from an angle as in a stand the difference will be a little greater. However, now that bows are much faster than ones from the past, I use a single pin on my Matthews and I'm pretty accurate out to 40 yards not having to move my sight much higher than where I'm aiming. But definately practice from an elevated stand if you are going to be hunting from one. You may wish to go to a single pin sight.

Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Sounds like alot of you guys in here just kill anything you see and consider it a trophy. That's killing, not hunting. The thrill of hunting is watching the small bucks grow over the years and then if you have the opportunity presents itself to take a mature Buck that's what a trophy is to me. For every spike you kill, that's one less big boy you'll see.

Raleigh/Durham, NC Deer Processors???????

Re: Raleigh/Durham, NC Deer Processors??????? Please, anyone...I need help with this, I'm heading up next weekend. I did find Pearce's Custom Processing in Louisburg, NC. It is however, at least an hour away. -
Re: Getting Desired Permission... I have had a few similar cases as yours. Like some of the other guys have said, most farmers that are having trouble keeping deer out of thier crops will be willing to give you permission. Try writing out what you want to say and have it in front of you while you are talking over the phone. And remember, all he can say is yes or no. And if he says no you havn't lost anything you didn't already have. Good luck!

Don't hunt directly over the buck sign, but try to see where the deer trails lead to sign and set up just ahead of or behind where they are coming in. And with the slope being so great, try to anticipate which direction they will be traveling at what time of day and set up your stand so that the deer will be walking up the slope towards you. This way you will be much higher than the deer and avoid the risk of being busted. ------------------> Shoot Straight and Steady

what type of bows do we all shoot
unioncountyslayer replied to GobblerBuster618's topic in Bowhunting
Re: what type of bows do we all shoot Mathews Outback 70# and 28' draw. Best bow I've ever shot. Real Fast! and quiet -
Re: Got a late start, GOT BUSTED Sounds like the old crafty does saw you move, even if it wasn't much. That would explain them coming back in to see what was in the area.

Re: Camo Netting ??? If you have a local Army Surplus store in your area, they usually have the best camo netting. It's the same stuff that the military uses to cover up tanks and such. It flows well so it blends in with the surroundings and doesn't smell when it gets wet like burlap. ----------------------> "Shoot steady and straight"

Re: Stand Placement Thanks for the replies guys, good advice.

Re: Switching Broadheads? I switched recently from Muzzy to Montec's G5 solid stainless broadhead. It doesn't break like muzzies sometimes do when you hit bone and they penetrate better. Mechanicals are more expensive and more problematic

Re: best bang for the buck? PSE, PSE, PSE, PSE, PSE, PSE, PSE AND OH YEAH, PSE!
-
Re: parker bow? Parker is a great bow, especially for the money. But if this is a first bow I would recommend a PSE. I shot PSE's for over 10 years and killed a lot of deer with them. I finally bit the bullet (broadhead) and invested in a Matthews.

I was curious to know if anyone knows of a deer processor in the Raleigh/Durham area of NC. I hunt in Apex, NC about 4 to 5 times a year at a family farm, but have never been able to find a local processor. Thanks-UCS

Re: ol\'man treestands Try a Summit stand, a little pricier than gorrilla, but much better quality

Re: TICKS??????? Just make sure you check yourself really well. I got a bacteria infection from a tick bite about a month ago and my lymph node in my neck still hasn't gone all the way down to normal size. Also try using No Stinkin' Bugs Spray from Dicks/Bass Pro shops and a thermacell.

I have taken on a lease this year of just over 100 acres. The only problem for bowhunting is that there are no really good trees to hang a stand because there is a creek that surrounds the property and most of the acerage is in planted corn or soybean. I have several tripods for gun hunting, but a little unsure as to how to set up for bowhunting, any suggestions?

Re: Is that a deer? What works for me is closing my eyes for a few seconds and letting them rest. Then when you open them back up you can really see much clearer. Then focus on what you think is a deer and watch for movement.

Does anyone know where I can get one of those sleeves to pull over my jacket when bow hunting. Waddel and Jordan always wear one.
