  2. The #1 reason they may be quiet is there are hens with them 24-7 now and they dont need to gobble!! They will pick up here shortly. The hens and toms are roosting together now, it is still early and it has only been warm a few days, I have had frost till yesterday every morning. Just keep listening they will start soon!!

  10. Congrats on a Great hunt, that is a fine bird!!!
  11. That is a great bird, I know what you mean about the hunting being tough. I have been after 2 long beards since the youth season, came close saturday with my son he still had 3 hens and 1 came down the trail and the tom I thought was going to follow but he went back the other way with the other 2 hens. At least he is down to a couple of hens, he had about a dozen to start , and non will get aggresive if you try to aggitate them they seem very passive. I am going in the morning.
  12. I have one thats at least 30yrs old, I used it to take my first gobbler 26yrs ago. My father made it when I was still in high school. Dont use it any more as it is a keep sake!!!
  13. The rest of the week sounds good as far as weather. I am going in the morning for a couple of hrs.
  14. I am always leary about bears, 3 seasons ago I heard what I thought was turkeys flying across a ravine, look over and here comes a huge male right at me. All I have is a 20 with 3" 6s as he goes between me and my decoys. That was cool to see but a little close for my first bear encounter!!!
  15. The rain wont bother turkeys,it seems when it rains they always go to open fields. I hunted this morn and did not hear a thing, too hot and humid for me and lots of gnats.
  16. Very nice bird, I am glad someone else noticed the nail polish!!! LOL
  17. That would be round up, I would not kill all as this keeps everything together. You will end up with some severe erosion, it may be better to put in some tile or drain diches to carry the water away.
  18. Sounds like a Great hunt, I am also from Western NY and I know what you mean about a tough season. Very henned up birds, I dont recall a season so tough, the hens I have seen are very passive as none will get pissed and come in. I live in Conesus, Livingston co. Congrats on the bird, it will be great hunting in a week or so.
  19. Congrats on the GREAT hunt, post some pictures.
