  1. The deer had 3 foreheads. Never seen that before.
  2. Great Stand!! I keep thinking I'll build a nice stand like that but it seems there's never the time to get away to my land to get it done. Not to put yours in the same league as these but here's a couple of pics of redneck stands that I've saved off the net over the years. .
  3. Yeah, property rights don't mean anything anymore. Doesn't matter if you own the land, zoning, land use, and wetland restrictions trump all ownership rights. I guess property rights means you have the right to pay taxes on it and not much else any more.

Hmmm, Picture doesn't show up. Does hotlinking not work on this forum?

    Coffee Pots

How Bout... This one? Bring the water to a boil, dump the grounds in then add a cup or two of cold water to settle the grounds to the bottom. Been making coffee this way for 30 years. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h56/Ultradog/junk/100_00261.jpg>
  6. Saw this buck on another forum. The photos are worth a glimpse. Any idea what he would measure? http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=nboard&th=789582
  7. I'm getting things ready to plow here. Have a new plow this year and need to make a couple of adjustments before I put it in the ground. I plow and disc several gardens for my family and relatives. Will go up to open the camper for the first time since deer hunting and do the plowing. Next weekend or the weekend after. It's still pretty early here. I'm going to open up a new plot this year too. About a half acre out by the lake. Get them moldboards scoured boys. Spring is upon us.
  8. An old timer told me once that if the deer ate all the salt that everyone puts out for them they would be jerky before you even shot them.
  9. Yes the deer will definately be drawn to a clear cut area as the new growth will provide a lot of browse. One thing to consider is how quickly all that new growth shoots up. My experience is that you will only get 3-5 years before the place is so thick you can't see anything in there. If you plan to hunt there for years to come I suggest you keep a good system of trails and shooting lanes open. Run along your trails with a tractor and disc or cultivator a couple of times per year to keep them open. If you don't you will soon have a monolithic block of land that wont be good for hunting for 20 years or more.
  10. As others have said a good plot depends on a lot of different things. Climate, soil type, tillage, planting technique, annual vs perennial, etc. So there really isn't a one size fits all answer to your question. A good source of info for your area is your County extension agent. He will be able to help with general questions. Another good source of info is your local feed/seed store. They are in touch with what other plotters in your area are using/buying. I have tried some brand names like Tecomati and Biologic over the years and had good luck with them. But I have not found them to be more effective than a bag of big rack mix sold by my local feed store at about half the price. Good Luck
  11. I have never understood people who sit in front of the TV all evening and then complain about the programming. Get rid of your TV and you will be happier, smarter and have a better life. I got rid of mine years ago and do not miss it. Sorry if I don't seem sympathetic. But I think TV is a major contributer to the downfall of America.
  12. I could help you with your tractor.
  13. Good plots also depend on good tillage and planting equipment. Give us a hint what kind of equipment you will be using.
  14. I agree with Dogdoc. You can find something like an 8N Ford with a 5 or 6 foot mower that will suit your needs for under $2K. The thing about a tractor is you can use it for a dozen years and then sell it and get your entire purchase price back. You could probably find a cheaper tractor like an Allis Chalmers B that would do the job but the 3 point hitch on a Ford makes the tractor useful for a variety of other things besides mowing.
  15. I don't have a TV anymore but I still can get my Monster Bucks fix watching DVDs on my computer. I've been buying them for 11 or 12 years now and look forward to them every season. Dunno if this is a computer/DVD question of one I should direct to David Blanton. I can't always hear what the hunter is saying in the video. Is there a way for a dvd to have subtitles? Does Realtree already have subtitles and I'm not smart enough to turn that feature on? A couple of your vids this year did have subtitles and it added a lot. A guy can get more enjoyment out of these videos if he can hear/read everything the hunter was saying. I don't post here a lot but I'm hale and hearty for this crowd and their pursuit of whitetails.
  16. Re: Monster Bucks 14. Got my vids on Saturday. I must admit I did kind of miss the tournament - not the group tourney like last year but the older ones with MW DB & BJ. I still love the MB vids though. Except one thing: Has anyone else had problems with the CDs playing right? volume 2 is skipping - right out of the package. And last years vids are now nearly unwatchable because they skip so badly. I've watched the old VHS vids scores of times and they all still work well. Not so with the CDs.
  17. Re: On a good note! Monster bucks DVDs!!!!!!!! Each year, next to the opener itself I think I look forward to the release of the new MB vids the most. I think I'll go back to buying the vhs version though. The last couple of DVDs I bought quit working.
  18. I don't know where I came across this one. I read a lot... The word is Toxophilite. My Websters defines it as: One who is fond of, or expert at Archery. I thought you Bow hunters might get a kick out of having a new word to use to describe yourselves. Have fun, Jerry

    Swaps

Does anyone know where a guy can post swaps? I haven't found anything here at realtree but maybe I just haven't found it yet. Any other good places to read/post swaps? TIA Jerry
  21. Re: CASINOS... Around here there's a bit of animosity between the hunting/fishing crowd and the Native Americans who own all the casinos. They've started exercising all their old treaty rights and do a lot of serious netting of the walleye population on the bigger lakes. They do it during the spawning season of course... So I never go to their casinos just out of principal. Most of the hunting/fishing people I know don't go either. Jerry
  22. Re: Question From Realtree Video Dept. I love your videos. I look forward to them coming out almost as much as I do the opener. But last year's shooting competition got a little too long for me. I would have rather watched another hunt or two. I like both the gun hunts and the bow hunts and think that the mix you have been using is about perfect.
