  2. Re: Team 2 [ QUOTE ] that buck probably would have put us on top for the lead too. [/ QUOTE ] Just curious as to how big of a buck Brad shot. It would take a deer with at least 24 scoreable points to gain the lead.
  3. Re: serious problem Some good ol BIG STRETCH latex caulk. Seals good and will stretch when you walk.
  4. Re: What\'s wrong with parents???? [ QUOTE ] I carried a knife with me everyday from about 7th grade up. Not for any particualar reason, just because I always had one with me. For the record. Our school never had metal detectors and I never stabbed anyone. What a bunch of idiots. [/ QUOTE ] We all carried pocket knives had trucks with gun racks ,and guns on them in the school parking lot. Never a shooting or stabbing. We fought with fists and were friends again the next day. That was in the late 80's, so much has changed in a short time.
  5. The news just reported that a 14yr old boy stabbed another boy in an Austin middle school. Parents of students were interviewed and blamed it on the fact the school had no metal detectors. When are parents going to take responsibilty and come to terms with the fact that kids are not being taught right from wrong, they are not shown discipline, there is no accountability anymore, and family time has become obsolete. We don't need metal detectors in schools, we need parents to be active in their childrens lives, lead by example, uphold morale values, and hold them accountable. Why is it so hard for people to see this?
  6. Re: trophy fees I agree with you Rhino, that system tends to work well. I don't think all ranches use greed as the factor in deciding trophy fee's. Here in Texas we ranch for deer like most do cattle or other livestock. Feed, food plots, water, countless hours of field research, biologist evaluations, and list goes on. I think the hard work does merrit some sort of monetary compensation , but I do feel some of the numbers are overboard and I do not agree on pricing deer by the antler inch. I love to hunt and will do so as long as God allows, even if prices go up. I might have to limit my hunting trips or time in the field, however, no amount of money is going to stop my passion. It takes money to support wildlife and the habitat they live in. Like it or not we as hunters do not ,as a whole, put enough money into helping our wildlife resource. It really bothers me to hear people complain about license cost and such, maybee you should not be hunting. IMO a true hunter understands the sacrifice needed to improve and promote wildlife and ethical harvest. We can not expect to hunt as we wish without giving back.
  7. Re: trophy fees I think hard working outfitters deserve compensation, but I find it difficult to pay a price based on antler size. What I can not figure out is this: In Texas the deer belong to the people of the state, no matter who's land they are on at any given time. How can people charge for a deer that does not belong to them alone? Here you can just about pay for what you wish to shoot, and I'm not talking high fence deer. There are alot of large free range ranches that have any size deer you want and the more you pay, the bigger deer you can shoot. There has got to be a fine line between all of this, I just have not found it.
  8. Re: Team 5 It's looking good so far, just a few more days. What are the prizes this year?
  9. Re: Jim Zumbo\'s anti comments!! I appreciate that Mr. Zumbo made that apology. There are a couple of idiots who replied to his apology and should be ashamed to consider themselves outdoorsmen.
  10. Re: Land Purchase Question [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] My brother and I just purchased a small chunk of land in MN, and there was no need for an attorney as far as the purchase went. The attorney only came into account when we started talking about "what ifs" Here, as long as the land is surveyed, you know what you are buying and you have the money, it is a done deal. The attorneys are not needed for a land purchase at all. We consulted an attorney, simply because we were buying land together and we both have a wife. So, we actually look at the land as 2 "lots" instead of one: Just in case something ever happened to one of us. IF you are buying the land alone you shouldn't need to pay the attorney fees. JMHO. [/ QUOTE ] However if there were leins against the property or right-a-ways across it would you know? If you found out years down the road, what recourse would you have? There is an old saying, Save a buck today, spend thousands tomorrow! [/ QUOTE ] Any leins should be recorded and would be known at title search, a title policy ensures against any issue. The survey will show any easments or PUE's. So why would you wan't to spend money on an attorney? How would it change anything?
  11. Re: Jim Zumbo\'s anti comments!! [ QUOTE ] Have any of you ever talked to Mr. Zumbo? I have and I think he is right on as far as using these so-called "assualt weapons" for hunting! They are not accurate at all and have less energy than a 30-30. That is the 7.62X39! Jim Zumbo is probably one of the best elk hunters there is! I also agree with him about "elk" farms. They should be outlawed and Idaho is working on that in the congress right now! I hope they shut them down! [/ QUOTE ] You might want to do some research before making an assumption about the accuracy of "assault weapons". I can assure you that there are several AR's out there by various companies that will outshoot most production hunting rifles, and several are chambered for .308 which is plenty of gun for anything in North America. And more deer fall victim each year to the so called under powered 30-30 than any other cartridge. I like Mr. Zumbo , but disagree with his statement. I personally do not own a so called "assault rifle" , however, if some one want's to own or hunt with one then that is their 2nd amendment right. I fully disagree with folks that just want to go out and throw as much lead in the air as possible in hopes of hitting the animal, but just because some folks choose a tactical semi auto does not mean they intend to empty a mag on everything they see. I have seen several folks that hunt with semi auto hunting rifles and shoot at running animals until their empty. IMO that is no different than someone doing it with a " assault weapon"
  12. Re: Land Purchase Question [ QUOTE ] TDH, how much is title insurance normally in your area?? [/ QUOTE ] It ran between $200 and $250 on the last few deals. I don't know how the figure it.
  13. Re: My 7 year old boys\' first deer!! That's what it's all about. Congrats!
  14. Re: Land Purchase Question Our real estate laws my be different here, I am not certain why you would need an attorney. Here we usually perform an appraisal, our title company completes a title search and provides a policy, and then a survey is done. The survey will indicate and type of violations to build lines or easement encroachments, as well as show all PUE's. And the seller has to provide a disclosure which is a binding document. As mentioned before, dealing with a reputable title co, surveyor, and lender are a must.
  15. Re: Happy Birthday Turkeygirl Happy B-day, hope it is a great one.
  16. Re: Land Purchase Question I would not pay to have an attorney , as a matter of fact , I have never closed a deal using an attorney and my bank nor any lending agency has ever asked or advised me to get one. I am not quit sure what an attorney can tell you that the title company does'nt already tell you. A survey, appraisal , and clear title should be all you need.
  17. Re: Land Purchase Question I am a builder and buy lots to build on with no realtor involved. If you have a good banker and title company, I suggest following their lead and saving the money you would pay a realtor.
  18. Re: managed-recoil? How bout a .260 with 140gr. bullet. Not a whole lot of recoil and plenty big enough to do the job.
  19. Re: Michael Waddell Left ? You got it....and they seldom show footage of a miss. Just does'nt seem to sell as well.
  20. Re: Michael Waddell Left ? Coastie the 10 point Waddell shot jumping a fence was not at the MMR Ranch ( aka Vatoville ) it was at the Timmins Ranch. Wait , it may have been the Perlitz. Anyway, it was long before the they hunted the MMR.
  21. Re: Dixie Chicks take home hardware Here is my two cents.............The chicks have every right to state their opinion no matter what their occupation or popularity status may be. My problem with them is they go overseas and bad mouth our president ,IMO to win over the crowd there and boost their popularity. They did not do it here for some reason? Now they expect that the Americans who were buying their albums will continue doing so when the majority disagree with them. They are against Bush and the war and what he stands for even though several of the things he supports have allowed them the freedom to do as they wish, even to bad mouth him as they have chosen. I stand corrected, as Natalie has chosen because I never heard the other two say anything. We are all on this forum because of our RIGHT and passion to pursue our outdoor heritage, why are we wasting time making this a battle between ourselves and between America and Canada? If Unioncounty slayer offened Sask then I am sorry that happened, but the retaliation remarks from Sask are no better. I am a Texan, Southerner, American, Redneck.....whatever you choose to call me, but don't come in bashing my heritage and stereotyping us as hood wearing idiots. Me nor any family member I know has participated in any klan activity.I think that it is fair to say we all have a difference of opinion and we are so entitled to that. I am proud of where I am and came from, I am certain that most of you are as well and see no need to offend each other by making this a battle between countries or states.
  22. Re: Please Pray Prayers are sent.
  23. Re: realtree hosts I guess that I see both sides of this debate. Yes, I would like to see those guys on here every now and then, but I do understand their busy schedule. Michael is such a down to earth guy and I suppose that's what draws folks to him and it just seems natural he would come here and just be one of the gang. I personally would feel compelled to visit with the folks who so strongly support the products that put food in my babies mouth, and I can not imagine Michael W not wanting to talk about hunting. My job is not just a job to me it is something I really enjoy, often I am asked construction related questions when I am away from work and have no problem carrying on an in depth conversation about it. On the flip side, I am content to come here and visit with all of you guys and the pro-staffers we have , ya'll are a great bunch of guys and gals . Whether or not Michael , Bill, or David show up here is not a deciding factor to me logging in.
  24. Re: meat hog Change your name to HogKillinMa....Good job.
  25. Re: Ventilation/ insulation question?? Sounds like a water supply line rupture, get a plumber on it asap. I would definately open up the walls to and remove any insulation that has been in contact with water. I am sure that if this has been going on for any length of time the potential for mold is likely. You may be better off calling a qualified water extraction company and/or a mold specialist if mold is present. Although there is very few actual documented cases of mold causing any sort of health problem, it might be worth it to treat this problem carefully.
