Re: Public Land Sale (*PLEASE READ*) [ QUOTE ] There is nothing wrong with wanting to be proactive to try and preserve something ... and this is his way of dealing with it ... On a side note a lot of ppl send the emails or respond differently on here then you would think ... just cause someone doesnt post doesn't mean they didnt do anything about it .. Steve [/ QUOTE ] Thank you Steve. Proactive is exactly what I'm trying to be. I've just never been one of those who wants to shove his hands in pockets and stand idly by while something is being taken away. If that's how some people want to "deal with it", so be it. Just don't say a word when Big Brother comes along and takes your hunting land. And, understood about how people respond. As I said, I just found it curious that no one even made a comment. Enough said. Hunt safe everybody.

Re: Public Land Sale (*PLEASE READ*) Just wondering how many of you took the time to send a response? I find it curious that after 3 days this hasn't even warrented one comment (except from me). I'm not trying to be confrontational, but it's hard for me to believe you guys would be that apathetic about such an issue. You don't necessarily have to be a member of the NWTF, or any other conservation organization for that matter, to voice opposition to this. I realize many of you don't hunt public land (I don't either) and never will. Still the fact remains that many hunters do. Imagine your life long private hunting lease is being sold to a land developer. That's what's at stake here for some of our brothers in the hunting community. I took two minutes of my time to try to help them. Did you?

Hey guys and gals. Please take a moment to read the following e-mail, sent out by Dowd Bruton (NWTF Regional Biologist for my area) concerning the sale of PUBLIC LAND, currently managed by the TVA, for industrial and residential use. I'm sure everyone understands that things like this have repercussions way beyond the Tennessee Valley. If you can, please take a moment to send an email in opposition. Thanks. Mark Daniel vagobbln Chapter President Dogwood Chapter - NWTF Subject: TVA Land Use policy - -situation critical 26 Oct. 2006 Hi Guys, In August 2006 TVA held a public hearing on their land abuse policy which has up until now been to sell public land around its 49 reservoirs in the 7 state TVA region for industrial and residential use. The public and even the president of the US has said repeatedly no to use of the power of eminent domain for economic development. The results of the hearing were the same: only 2% of the public response favored selling public TVA lakeside land. Conservation groups like NWTF spoke loud and clear and TVA administrators and the TVA commented specifically about the effectiveness of NWTF. As a result, the TVA Board of Directors proposed a new policy sharply curtailing sales of TVA public lands and will vote whether to do that or not pending a 30 day public review period. I received word from a top TVA administrator who obviously wants a new policy limiting sales of public lands, that the conservation community better get out the responses because the developers have hired a powerful lobbyist to defeat it. Now I got a second call last night saying "where are your people - -we have heard practically nothing from NWTF, QU, DU, RMEF, etc. We must hear from them at the local regional and national level if we are to win this battle". I think some don't understand. Their letters of August don't count in this second "vote - -review process". We must be heard again if it is nothing more that to reaffirm what we said last time. I hope that significant numbers of chapters and individual from our region will respond - - - particularly from state, regional and national offices. I suggest something like this: Our organization is deeply concerned about the wise use and management of public lakeshore land managed by TVA. Our members use that land for outdoor recreation. We expect it to continue to be made available for this and future generations. We therefore support a new policy by the TVA Board of Directors that prohibits the sale or trade of all TVA public lands. Here is the address: Phone: toll free - 888-882 7675 for leaving a recorded message Fax 865-632-3146 Email TVA Board of Directors 400 W. Summit Hill Dr. Knoxville Tn. 37902-3146 Such a message needs to be sent in immediately. The deadline is 3 November. At steak is 293,000 acres in 7 states. Please forward this to other sportsmen/conservation groups. Even though the majority of TVA land is located in other states besides VA, anytime NWTF volunteers can have their voices heard and help protect land that provides public hunting and recreation, we need to do so. Please take 2 minutes to call or to copy the following and paste to an e-mail and send to the following e-mail address: ***Our organization is deeply concerned about the wise use and management of public lakeshore land managed by TVA. Re: Unbelievable 295\"+ Ohio buck! [ QUOTE ] That guy holding the buck can't be Amish. #1 the clothing is not Amish, lol, and #2 the Amish do not take pictures and would not allow pictures to be taken of themselves. Of course that isn't NY state so I don't know how the Amish differ in other states but a job well done to the Amish hunter! [/ QUOTE ] A deer like that might make you change religions!

Re: POACHERS [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Sorry everyone I must have accidentally left some stuff out. He shot with a shotgun to scare the people, not to harm them, and the spot where they were was at the edge of the pasture right by his back yard. Sorry again I was half asleep when I wrote the post. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The land owner took a few shots at them but they were to far . [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] That was exactly my thought process when I read this. They were too far? Too far to what, scare them? Sounds like a circus all they way around to me.

Re: Outers Foaming Bore Cleaner I've been using it this year and I'll agree, it works pretty good.

Re: Best movie soundtrack?? Another thumbs up for City of Angels, but I like O' Brother, Where Art Thou too.

Re: Since the start of the Iraq and Aghanistan WAR Well said New. God Bless every one of of dedicated service men and women. Isiaha. If you want to quote statistics, think about these: Go see the new movie coming out about the battle of Iwo Jima. The US suffered over 26,000 casualties in that battle alone. Just trying to offer some perspective. One more "number". We also lost 3000 innocent Americans on 9/11/01. I don't ever want to see another one of our armed service members hurt or killed, but just remember why we're there. Just my 2 cents.

Speaking of the rut, how many of you...........
vagobbln replied to FSU_Seminole's topic in Deer Hunting
Re: Speaking of the rut, how many of you.......... I've stayed on stand all day on occasion, but boy it can wear you out. I think at a certain point you kinda lose your edge. I love to hunt the middle of the day though, especially during the rut. What I've done in recent year's is after, say three or four days straight of getting up "before the roosters", is sleep in and then still hunt into my stand around mid-morning. I've crossed paths with a lot of deer doing that. -
Re: Wooden Arrows??????????? Personally, I wouldn't dare try it. Unless you just want to have a footlong piece of cedar protruding from your forearm! I don't think any wooden arrow would have the spine to withstand being shot from today's compounds. Get the old recurve or long bow out if you've got the itch to shoot them that bad.

Re: Another MORON is born! Whew! When I first read the topic, I though Hillary Clinton had had another baby! Congratulations by the way.

Re: What is this?? Ditto. Ditto. Ditto on the beagle ID. Appears to be making a scrape too!

Re: Lost my best friend Very sorry for your loss Andrea. Anybody who doesn't understand has never owned a dog. I still remember the day I had to lay my yellow lab (Chester, the best dog I ever had) to rest. I'd dropped to my knees and cried like a baby. Just saying, I know what you're going through.

Re: What would you do??(hypothetical) Public land or not, that's not what "friends" do. At the very least he could have said "Look, I won't come back if you don't want me to, but would you mind if I hunted here without you?". I bet you would have shown him that courtesy if the situation was reversed. I've had turkey spots messed up because I took friends there. Where do people get the idea that if if it's OK for you to go It's OK for me too. Bottom line. Talk to him about it. If he's any kind of real friend he'll understand how you feel.

Re: Must have Deer Gear Well Congratulations RangerClay! You and I are the only ones to ever buy hunting equipment that works! These other guys are obviously Cough Silencer owners too embarrassed to speak up.

Re: Pet Peeves? Left-lane slowpokes. People who don't say thank you for a random act of kindness (like opening a door for somebody or waving when you let them into traffic) Lazy people who use the motorized carts in WalMart. People who take up more than one parking space. Negative people. If you always think something won't work or happen, it probably won't. Endzone celebrations and taunting. Hey, it's a football game, not a tribal territorial dispute! There, I feel better.

Re: ez-hangers I usually don't have a problem getting the EZ Hanger to bite, but sometimes it's helpful to take an extra screw in step and drill a pilot hole. Once you have this done it should go right on in.

Re: knight rifles are much better then t/c I've owned and hunted with Knight's for the last ten years and they've been good guns, BUT .... when my finances permit, I'll have a T/C ProHunter. Shane13, I'll bet you're one of those guys who would talk bad about a man's dog, aren't you?

Got to thinking about this while sitting in the stand the other evening and maybe it can help some of the new hunters. We're flooding every year with the latest and greatest hunting gear. Some of it works and some doesn't. What are those items you've found over the years that really work or just make hunting easier and more enjoyable (aside from the obvious ones like a gun, bow or toilet paper!)? I'll give you a few of mine: Crooked Horn Binocular Harness Strapper (retractable pull up strap) EZ Hanger Laser Rangefinder Grunt call

Re: tangled web of antlers [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I wonder if those are from a high fence place up there: www.threelakespreserve.com [/ QUOTE ] That would be my guess also. [/ QUOTE ] You guys are right. If you read the AT thread they now say that's where they came from. Apparently the guy never fired a shot but is going to pay the preserve owner $20,000 for the deer. Deep pockets can get you about anything I guess.

Re: Hold hands??? I require my wife to always walk 3 steps behind me so holding hands is kinda awkward. Just hit 18 years and still holding hands, opening doors and kissing in public.
