    tanning hides

Take your time fleshing the fat and meat off of the hide. the better job you do now, the nicer it will come out. if it were me i would use krowtann 2000, i`ve used it on everything with pleasing results..
  4. I`ve shot a half a dozen deer with 75 grain v-max ballistic tips in .243 cal all but one dropped on the spot the other was a heart shot it ran 40 yards give or take, still well within view before it fell over. What i like about them is all of the bullets energy isn`t wasted by a pass through. I have yet to have an exit hole..Lots of easy track jobs when they dont go any where..
  5. So i get a text message from my buddy asking me to get my butt up the hill.. Angie got a buck and a doe. I guess she just got done tagging her doe when mr 8 pointer desides to make an apperance, luckily she reloaded her rifle..
  6. I use a 6 foot length of rope with a heavy duty spring snap http://www.tractorsupply.com/home-improvement/hardware/chain-rope-accessories/snaps/9-frasl-16-in-interlocking-spring-snap-9-frasl-16-in-opening-3522027 i fasten one end to the tree i`m in, and the other to my hunter safety system, it works well i have just enough play not to get in the way..
  7. I was on stand at 1:30 i wasnt in for 10 minutes and i saw a buck, that makes 9 since saturday..no frickin shooters though..
  8. So i go out yesterday evening and this little doe comes flying by me, i`m talking a full speed run, 10 seconds later 3 little bucks and a really nice 6 point with at least a 14 inch spread, which i cant shoot follow behind her all 4 are grunting and making a ruckus..Everybody talks about how hard the rut is on bucks, it is just as bad if not worse on the does the way they get hounded before they go into estrus..
  9. Still alive.. Although i had the lid off of a bottle of doe pee come un-screwed in my pocket, my clothes stunk like heck...
  10. Call me crazy but, after the past 2 evenings i`ve been out, and the deer i`ve been seeing and how close they have been to me, it actually works...I had a doe and triplets 12 feet away, and i mean dead directly downwind of me and never smelled me..I was gonna take a picture, but i couldn`t move they were so close...You have just as much of a chance of being attacked with a bottle of doe in heat in your pocket or with a scent drag trailing behind you, or a scent pad stuck to your boot as i do with a couple of handfulls of dirt rubbed on me. I`m willing to play the odds..And if i do get attacked i`ll post pics and admit how dumb it was for me to do what i did..
  11. A community scrape is a scrape that is used by deer all year long, not just during the rut.. They have been using this scrape for as long as i can remember..Its like a big scent post..For the record i took the dirt from the edge, i did think a little before i rubbed it on me..Less likely to get urine on me....Heading out in an hour wish me luck..
  12. It wasnt from a mating scrape..It was a community scrape
  13. There is a community scrape in an area i hunt, so i get the bright idea to kick up a little dirt from it and take a couple of hand fulls and rub it all over my hunting clothes.. It paid off because i had 6 deer directly down wind of me not running to the next county..As a bonus i saw 3 bucks, one was an absolute monster, as an extra bonus i grunted a small buck in. I had a great evening because of a little experiment.. Someone else try it, i want to see if it was a fluke or if im actually on to something..
  14. I remember when i was younger i climbed up an 18 inch oak tree in a wind storm.. I swear that i was almost touching the ground everytime it swayed.. I made a mental note as i was hanging on for dear, life dont ever do that crap again, after i shook it outta my draws...
  15. about the time you lay the smack down on a yote that big 10 point is gonna stroll by.. And its game over...
  16. [quote=Tony; thats why i prefer to hunt transition areas from feeding to bedding. less chance to get busted. Good Luck. Tony Thats the deal, i was hunting a transistion area

    Darn Wind

How many of you out there have had this happen to you ?? So im sitting in a great location, the wind is blowing away from a bedding area, when prime time hits and the wind changes direction ?? So about 2 minutes after the wind changed i hear deer blowing no more than 50 yards from me....I wanted to scream !!!!! I`m hoping if i let things settle down for a week that i can get back in there and hunt it again... I had to vent thanks for being a shoulder to cry on...
  18. I drag them 100 yards or so from my stand, then do the deed... I dont want bothered by crows and other critters feeding on inerds..
  19. Mental preparation, making the shot in my head. Pin on target Peep lined up Nock point Relax Release Follow thru Recovery
  20. Amazing how you wont see a fly around, then you shoot a deer and they come from out of no where...
  21. Yotes as well as other critters tend to take the easiest route from one place to another.. Trap around fence rows, tractor trails roads etc. edges of fields.. Any place where a farmer stores his hay if its in a field, mice and other rat like crittters like to feed and hide in such places.. Set traps in bottle neck areas, roads between fields is another good spot.. Be extra clean. Boil your traps, you can wax them if you like, i personally dont wax its just an extra step thats optional. Cotote urine, a good brand coyote lure and bait is a plus. cavens just mice for bait cavens terminator lure M.J. canine candy bait/lure Hope this helps you a little..
  22. heres a picture of the doe i got last saturday
  23. Grant me permission to hunt the Strut 10 ranch and i`ll take care of atleast one of your problem bucks, lol
