  1. Glad to see folks putting the birds down. Congrats to both of you. With 4 days left to hunt here in Alabama, things are not looking good. It aint over till it's over though. Good luck to the rest of you.
  2. Congrats on the bird. Way to get the team on the board.
  3. Hey TB, sorry about your loss doesn't come close to being appropriate, but just don't have any other words right now. Can't begin to imagine what you must be going through right now & frankly hope none of us ever have too. Please know that you & all involved will be in my prayers & I pray that the Lord will comfort each of you. In the midst of this tragedy may God be glorified & may he fell each of you with His peace and love. God Bless.
  4. Good, friends...good hunt...what else could you ask for? Congrats on the birds & greta pics.
  5. As said in all the other replies...I love your stories. Congrates on 2 great Toms!
  6. Great to see some Bama birds falling. Congrats to the both of you. I think my calls will only call jakes, because that's all I've been able to get to come in so far. Again congrats & look forward to seeing the pics.
  7. Like elnor is saying, the tube call would be the easiest call to make & the nwtf website will give you step by step instructions to do it. BUT...I believe you may want to stick with your first choice of a slate call. I know it will be more dificult to build, but will be easier to play when complete. The tube call has to be one of the most difficult calls to master. My point...why build it if you can't use it...it make affect your grade. Just my 2 cents.
  8. Yeah, just give me time & I'll finally get it. You know us southern boys are a little slow. Thanks for putting it together for us. Can't wait until daylight Staurday...opening morning here we come. Hope the weather is better than this past Saturday. Woke up to snow falling. By the time it was all over, we had over 1/2"!!! I know that's not a big deal to most of you, but for March in Alabama, it was quite a change. Anyhow...snow, rain, wind, whatever...Lord willing I will be watching the woods come to life about 5:45 cdt Saturday morning.
  9. I believe that to be correct. Unlike lead hevi-shot will not deform shape/size inorder to be forced out of the choke. Could be wrong.
  10. Hey 27...hate to hear that you didn't get drawn. Keep checking in with us though & I hope the fish will be biting this spring since there will be no turkey hunting. Moon: I guess when you contact Strut about the team name, you may want to let him know we need another player.
  11. Hey guys/gals, Steve here checking in from Alabama. Can't wait for March 15. Been seeing a few strutters starting to gather up their flocks & hearing some birds gobble from the roost. Been doing this now since '87 or '88 & I swear I love it more every year. Good luck to each of you & I look forward to hearing stories & seeing pics.
  12. Exactly. Nothing & I mean nothing, no video, magazine, book, magic bean, nothing will teach you as much as time in the woods. Be patient & don't be afraid to make mistakes...and believe me you will. In my opinion, you will learn more from your mistakes & failures than your sucesses. If I could offer a few quick tips. 1. be a woodsman...know the woods as well as the birds. 2. find a seasoned turkey hunter & see if you can tag along. Maybe easier said than done. 3. don't be so amped up to get in the woods that you go out before season & call to the birds. Don't want to show them everything before you have a chance to actually hunt them. 4. ABOVE ALL....be thankful for each and every encounter you have with the wild turkey. There is nothing like it!!!
  13. Congrats to the both of you. I find myself in the same boat you were in about cutting the cord with your son. How old is he by the way? My son has been hunting with me since he was 8 & is now 13. he has killed quite a few deer, with his best coming this year. I am having a hard time letting him go & do it on his own...the worried dad I guess. I know he would rather be out there by his self (you know at 13 dads are not cool & don't know anything), it's just hard to let go. He tells me all the time about his buddies hunting on their own, climbing trees with portables, etc., but they're not mine. Anyhow, maybe next year I will cut the cord. Congrats again & thanks for sharing.
  14. Did you get cake & ice cream too? Congrats on a great buck!
  15. Went to Scottsboro this past weekend & had a great time. There was a total of 6 of us (my first time up there) & we will definitley be headig back. Too bad duck & deer hunting run together. Just not enough days in the year. Congrats on the birds.
  16. Great deer regardless of score. Congrats, but I think everyone is high. I say 130 +-
  17. Good luck to all of you hunting this weekend. We are going to be doing all of our planting this weekend. Usually done by now, but with the heat & drought we deciced to wait. Maybe it will pay off if we ever get some rain.
  18. THWACK!!!! Enough said.
  19. Have any of you ever hunted Land Between the lakes in Kentucky? We will be going up Sept. 20 - Sept. 24 for our first trip. Any info, helpful hints, dos & don'ts would be greatly appreciated. Also hear the ticks are a huge problem during the early season. Any suggestions there would also be a huge help. Thanks to all.
