Ymmmm... Can't wait to fish for some slabs after steelhead season. I hooked 3 northerns and a muskie last year while fishing crappies. I never knew what I was going to catch that day. Send some fillets my way:cool:
-
They have been going strong for about 4-5 years now here on the west side of Mi. Not many people fish them on the east side. I am on my 3rd year of using one. Fighting fish out a drag is a blast. Now that I got the whole thing down, I can't wait to beat up on some kings with them. I love fishing with a pin, but I don't like the one I bought. I have consistent problems with it. If I have the money, I would be buying a new one. Hows the fishing near you muggs?

Been steelheading pretty hard the past couple days. It's finally been picking up. Fished tuesday and went 1-3 and seen a ton other steelhead caught. Fished on friday and had a good day going 3-6 on steelhead, 4 brownies, 2 small rainbows, and a walleye. here are some pics from that day: On sunday we had motor troubles so we hit up the dam. Fishing was slow from what I hear, but we each managed a fish. Spawn has been the ticket for me. Haven't heard of to many steel takin on waxies. Anyone else been out? Let's see some pics!
-
Anyone been out? I have been going out here and there but everything has been real slow. I have fished several different rivers in the past 2 months and only have caught one steelhead. Every body else has said the same thing. Fished for walleye last week and ended up hooking a ton through the ice, but only landed 4. For some reason they weren't sticking. So, how is everyone elses steelhead season been so far? Here is a video I took on my last trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIoCONZHdJs

I know there is already a league going on here but I thought I would send an invite for anyone who is interested. It's time to erase all your points, and start over. I think were in for another great season of racing! Who's going to take it this year? Will there be a fight to the end or will Johnson leave everyone in his smoke? I keep telling myself every year that I want to post more on this site, and become more of an active member on this site. However, between running my own forums, and fishing and hunting non-stop, it's hard to post over here. This year I spent a lot of time in the woods scouting and pre-paring for this years deer season. I wasn't seeing much until Oct. 8th where I arrowed my first deer ever, a spike. Up until last week, I started to get worried because I wasn't seeing any deer. I almost considered ending my season and filling my tag with a doe. I thought it was going to be to hard to tag another bigger buck. This past week, I have seen 6 bucks, 1 bb, 8 does and 8 unidentified deer. Out of all those deer, only one was a possible shooter but was too far away. I have had 3 other bucks underneath my tree stand. One of them I really wanted to harvest, but I couldn't. Since I already filled my original tag, I am restricted to anything with 4 point or more or an anterless deer. Here are some pics from so far this season: Since I don't want to shoot any does yet, and I haven't been able to shoot any of the bucks coming by, I have decided to start messing around with my camera and making video's. Here are my two recent video's: Hope you guys enjoy! Check out my myspace for updated videos!

Don't get me wrong, I love steelhead fishing. However, I can do that 50% of the year. There is only one week for spring break to hang out with friends. Next year, I am going south for sure. Of coarse there will be a fishing trip in there somewhere.
-
I didn't have any thoughts of steelhead fishing in Michigan this spring break. I was more thinking of sitting on a nice beach somewhere south enjoying the sunshine. Then problems came for me, so I started thinking kentucky with friends fishing for muskie. That also didn't happen so I started thinking steelhead fishing in Ohio in steelhead alley. We were all set to go but when I made a call to erie outfitters they told me it was a waste of time. Good to know there are some honest tackle stores out there still. Well, after 650 miles on the truck, 130 dollars in gas gone, I am back in school. I did it again, steelhead fished my spring break away. However, it actually turned out pretty good. Thursday my buddy and I floated a favorite little river of ours. Spotting our vehicles were close to impossible since at one of the launches I got my truck stuck. We thought for sure our dry floy boat would be gone when we got back. Ended up fishing from 9:30 til dark with the fishing getting better by the day. Hit many holes with very fish to show for it. However, it didn't matter to me being that I haven't fished in months for steel. My buddy went 1-2 and lost a hog hen. Waxies were the bait of choice for him. Later in the float I hit a small chromer but that was it for the float. Since it was still pretty early, I decided to continue to fish and ended up going 3-4. Nothing huge but still felt pretty good to hit some fish. The fish I did loose was a hog of a hen. She probably only went 25-27 inches long but was easily 10 lbs. The fastest fish I had ever seen. Would of been nice landing her since I am in desperate need of spawn. All my fish fell to a jig and brown trout spawn...Thanks Jon for the spawn!! Did see a king that looked to be dead for about 2 weeks. Headed farther north to fish another favorite river of mine. Fished from 1:30 to dark. Did alot of scouting and learning some new water. Found one fish but it spit the hook near shore. That was the only fish I seen hooked all day. Caught on a white jig tipped with chartruese and BT spawn. Headed furthur north to see my buddies new born, and hit another river. Had to give Joseph his scooby doo fishing rod for when he is a little older Fishing was slow for the majority of the day with me hitting only one fish in my fav. hole and loosing it. Seen a carcass of something floating by but I am not sure what it was. I think it might of been another salmon but could have been a brown. Also seen a pair of fish spawning. Couldn't believe it since the water was only like 32 deg. Ended up going to a spot I knew produced for a buddy early this week. First cast a 20 inch buck. Second cast, nothing. third cast a 6-7 lb male. I didn't think there were anymore fish. When I casted I noticed my reel was all freezed up. Right when I got it set and drag adjusted, the float went down and I was into another fish. Landed that fish and it was probably 8-9 lbs. Thinking i was into the money hole I covered every little piece of water but never hooked up. With my gloves completely frozen and my waiders starting to freeze I called it a day. Headed out sunday with temps finally rising. Met up with UBSLO1. While he was coming down I hooked onto a fish tight in the inside seem. Glad to see it was a hen I through it on the bank. When I got home, I cleaned the fish and it only had a few eggs in her. :x Here she is: I ended up hooking and loosing another bright fish. UB and I worked all the good holes but I conected with another fish but my drag was to loose and I lost that fish. Ended up being a great day on the river. Here are some pics of UB and I. Me going to work: UB Nice fishing with you again, Noah! All in all, from what I thought was going to be a sloooooow wkd turned out not to be that bad. It was a cold weekend but I made the best out of it. Now to find some more money so I can do it all over again

Well, were back to the beggining of the racing season where everyone starts over. I think were in for another great season of racing! Who will win this year? Thanks for the reply, guys! However, I don't have any problem with the rechargeable batteries. It's the memory lock and getting pics on the computer. I have had a few responses on other sites. I am going to give them a try. Hopefully this problem will be fixed!
-
I am hoping this is an easy fix and just something I am doing wrong. I hope some of you guys can help me out here. I have a gamespy 100 2.1 gidital field camera that I recieved last christmas. 1. My first problem is when I put a certain memory cards in, the screen says memory lock or something like that. If I put in a memory card that doesn't say that, then put it in the woods, it won't put pics on the card. It does it internally. I missed out on alot of pic this year due to putting it up, then coming back and find out it says this or overloading the camera. 2. Next problem is that just started occuring is when ever I get pics on the camera and go to put it on the computer, it won't put them on. I can read through the D drive but when I go to put them on the computer, it's saying it's not connected when it is. I hope this is just something I am doing wrong and not something I have to throw in the trash already. Anyone else having these problems?

Re: Fall...er...I mean winter steelhead Let us know how you do shaun? I went out again today. The steelhead seemed to not want bait today and the few hard-ware fisherman hooked up. I ran into this one kide that I fished a tourney with and he hooked two on spinners. Guess I need to switch techiques I guess.

Re: Field Camera Test Is there any good site that showes you step by step on how to make camera's? I would be intersted in making one sometime. Here are some pics from last night. I caught a steelhead yesterday and put the carcass out to see what would check it out. Last night came up with this critter investigating the steelhead carcass: And this cute pic: Then there was this video while I was out fishing. Tomarrow the camera will be moved back behind my house. Will be hoping to get a pic of the few deer back there. Hopefully, the 8-points who are back there. Hope I am not boring anyone  I swear there will be better pics when I get back up north.

Well, the fishing went to crap lately up until today. Today is the first time I have hit fish in the 6 days I have been out. Usually my trip consist of 5-8 hours but after waking up late and then playing my field camera, I only got out for 2.5 hours. We did have some rain last week which I think brought some fish up. I landed a 28 incher, 8 lb hen today. Pretty good fight and was totally unexpected since the last few trips out. She hit a steelie egg skein ball tied in chartruese and was laying uner an over lap of land. Hopefully a sign of good things to come. Anyone else been out???
-
Well, santa was good to me on x-mas and brought me a moultree digital field camera. So far, I am impressed. Christmas night I set it out and tried to figure it out. Got lots of pictures of nothing and a squirrel or two. So I messed with it again last night and threw some bait out. Bait consist of peanut butter, bread, bird seed, nuts, and salmon eggs. When I woke up I went out and grabbed the camera and this is what I came up with. Oppossum showed up first Then this scary man showed up!(my dad) Look whos howed back up several hours later The usual neighbors showing up Blackie I can't wait to get this on some deer!

Re: Winter Steelheading I started fishing salmon and steel on the ausable. Did well on salmon but never connected with steel. Haven't fish the ausab for steelies up until today. My buddy got one but that was it. I got one on a smaller tribe near the ausable.
-
Re: Winter Steelheading I fish everywhere in Michigan. For steelhead I usually stay in the middle part of the state but will fish whereever. Salmon, if the weather is right, I am there.
-
Well, it's suppose to get nasty here in Michigan as far as snow. I gotta admit though, I LOVE IT. It's by far the best time to fish steelhead in my opinion. Less people and more biters.. Anyone been out now that hopefully tags have been filled? I got out last weekend and went 2 for 3 landing some males of about 25 inches.

Here is my deer season recap. It's a little long but makes up for me not posting at all this fall and trying to be in the woods as much as possible. Read as much as you want, but my success story doesn't start til the 5h paragrapgh. Well, my season unfor. came to an end today. Unless I get invited somewhere and who has an extra warm suit for me, lol. Let's just say some dummy(me) left all my camo in the laudry at home thinking mom put them back in my scent free tub. I hunted today w/ my rifle, but I can only assume to deer seen me miles away with my ultra violet rays all over me. I wanted to hunt more this week but couldn't because of school. I didn't care though today and just went with or without sleep. Unfor. I can't go home to pick up my camo so there is no way i'll be getting a deer with my bow. Oh well... Anyways, other then that mistake, my hunt from **** breaking my bow, I had a pretty successful season. I hunted a brand new county and seen deer on every mournin hunt except for today. That does not include the tree from **** that almost killed me and that destroyed my bow. I also think I was to late for that acorn grove I was hunting over in the tree from ****. Only seen deer on the night I got my chance. However, I did hear them. I had a few goals this year that I think I accomplished. 1. I never got busted(depending on what you would consider busted) walking into my stand, hunting, leaving, or scouting. When walkin in and out I tried walking like a deer and never rushing to my stand no matter what time it was. I did have some deer come under my stand that took off running but never snorted at me like last year then I seen them again right under me using the same paths. 2. Another goal was to get out early and enjoy some Oct. bowhunting. I even bowhunted my first Oct. 1rst and put the salmon rods down:) I did learn though I need to hunt less in Oct. and more during the rut because I felt burnout by the time the rut came and couldn't sit as much as I wanted to. 3. Get my dad into deer which he had his oppurtunity but passed on all over them for some reason or another. 4. I also scouted during the winter, and spring more then I ever have and learned a ton. Unfor. this place was in another county. However, having the oppurtunity to do so seen the importence of scouting during the off season. 5. Also having many different options to hunt. Relizing your best oppurtunity to score is the first couple times out unless you have a real good spot. Some goals I did not accomplish this year: 1. Didn't get a deer with my bow. Party I blame the fact that I didn't get out scouting til Oct and didn't cut any shooting lanes in fear of scaring deer away. 2. I didn't get my first buck:( which I am most bummed about it relizing this is my 10th year of hunting. 3. Being a dummy again I left my plat book up north at work and didn't get it back til oct which also caused me not to have the chance of scouting til the season started. 4. The only buck I seen was a BB on opening day of rifle season. (more on that later) 5. My gun failed on me twice in a row on the same group of deer because of me not knowing my gun. 6. I am still without a field camera due to no funds, lol. Now for my success! Other then seeing deer almost every time out I got deer to come within bow range. Unfor. there was crap in between me and the deer so I couldn't make a nice clean kill. Opening day of rifle I had a 2 deer come in. I decided if I had a chance I was going to shoot the deer in the back until I relized it was a BB. I thought about taking his female companion but relized she was a fawn so I opted to pass on both. That made me feel good now knowing the future of my hunt. I just hope the BB will survive for next year. BTW, there I could have taken both deer if I wanted to being they were 3 yards away from the base of my tree. I hunted that stand again that friday and never seen a deer. Feeling like crap because I thought I over-hunted the stand I opted to sit in a spot where my dad kicked up a gimp deer that mournin. I didn't have any cover so I sat on a mound of dirt hoping my camo was scent free and UV free. 4:30 rolled around and I still hadn't seen a deer. Thing started rolling around in my head such as: "why am I hunting like my dad. He doesn't see nearly as many deer as me because I scout out way before the season and don't walk around once the season starts to find new spot. " "I have never even scouted back here. What if that deer my dad seen was the only one?" Then that time span you have been waiting for all season long comes and goes before you relize it. I heard the familiar sound of deer walking through water. I readied myself and waited. Then I seen the brush moving and a deer pop up. I put my cross hairs on her shoulders, waiting for her to go broadside and pulled the trigger. She turned around funny like she was hit. Then I seen several other deer take off. They might of been bucks but due to my inexperience I pulled the trigger way to quick. I waited the half hour and caught my breath. I went to see if I could find blood and at first I couldn't. I replayed everything in my head wondering if I hit the deer. I didn't want to start tracking it til dark but just want to make sure I hit it. I ended up waiting til dark, went looking again and found blood all over the place but 5 yards from where I thought i hit her. I tried to follow it but my light was going out. So we went back and got materials. When we went back I tried following the blood trail as far as possible but it quit within 5 yards from where she was hit. Then we found blood on a few young trees 10 yards away. My dad went off looking for the deer while I tried searching for more blood. The blood again ran out and I started getting that un-easy gut feeling. Then I hear my dad say "hey, here she is." I quickly ran over and sure enough, there she was. I decided to back track her and found out the blood totally ran out until where she died. She ran like 40 yards with no blood trail then bled a ton and fell over. To say I was excited was an understatement. It was good to finally harvest a deer finally this year. That makes 3 does for me and 2 in 2 years. Maybe I am getting better at this game! Now that the rifle season is over, and I can't hunt anymore, I plan on starting my scouting this week. Were suppose to recieve a ton of snow so I figure I am going to start searching for escape routes and where these deer hang out once the rifle season is in full swing. Seeing all the deer this season, I actually can't wait to get out scouting. Hopefully, next year will be my year! To think I wanted to quit deer hunting 3 years ago. I am glad I didn't with all the sighting the last few years. After sitting all season long for 5 yrs and never seeing deer I was starting to worry, lol,

I keep meaning to get ou tbut everytime I do there calling for winds of 20-30 mph. Im not a fan of being up a tree then. What fast does the wind have to be to keep you out of the woods.
