Re: deer jerkey? [ QUOTE ] Use a dehydrator for mine too. Use only ground meat for our jerky with the cableas jerky shooter. Hi mountain cures are about the best I have found. [/ QUOTE ] Hi Mountain is very good, i use a dehydrater and whole muscle meat

Theres no reason not to manage!!!!!!!

Re: Theres no reason not to manage!!!!!!! i wish i had land that manageable but my family only owns 40 acres and the surrounding lands are shotgun hunted hard and they kill anything and everything, i shoot several does every year and wait for mature bucks , but its hard to do when a lot of the bucks are killed before they are mature -
Re: taking young bucks. [ QUOTE ] some people just feel they don't need giant antlers to be a successful hunter, to them its about filling the freezer, and theres nothing wrong with that...a doe, young buck..whatever...it is their choice, not yours, they spend money on tags like everyone else...if you look at your wall and feel you are a great hunter thats fine, but some people find it more important to feed their family first and worry about showing off last... [/ QUOTE ] if your worried about filling ur freezer then shoot the does and let the young bucks go, it's very frustrating to have somebody shoot everything that comes by when ur trying to manage and shoot mature deer

Re: no good tonight yesterday and today were very warm, but yesterday there was a ton of deer moving. Tonight though i only saw 6 fawns. I'm guessing their mommas were being contained by the bucks

Re: Wind Question [ QUOTE ] its always been said that you should pick one side or the other of a ridge and not hunt on top of it. Winds will almost always swirl so pick a side and hunt just down the ridge. [/ QUOTE ] i've always heard, and personally agree that the ridge top is the best place b/c it swirls less there. The sides of ridges and bottoms are where the swirling winds occur.

Re: Leaving for W. Central IL!!!! good luck, sounds like this week is goin to be good!

Re: How can I? that may work but an easier way is to go to a local sporting store and buy some fresh earth dryer sheets, they work great, don't cost much and leave no residue or smell in the dryer. hope that helps!

you gotta love it, i went to this guys house and asked for permission to hunt because the land looks great. Turns out he is one of the nicest guys i have ever met and is even giving me a treestand to set up somewhere !!! It's almost too good to be true, and thats always good

Re: New Land i just got sole permission to about 100 acres last week, nothin better than scouting new land!!!

Re: 42 DEGREES IN THE MORNING!!! 36 ON FRIDAY! lows in the 20's here tonight , but i have school so i won't be able to get out there until about 4 p.m. but my cameras will be out there all day..........by the way my non hunting friends think i'm nuts to go and sit in a tree in freezing weather, but i wouldn't be anywhere else

Re: Anyone hunted Jim Edgar Panther Creek area in IL?? all of this talk is getting me rearin to go, by the way thanks for the info about the west side, i didn't know that! But honestly it is a great piece of land (and a very big one) and i do thank god that i was born here in central illinois and have a chance to see and harvest some great deer. Good luck to all of you guys this year!!! and by the way its only 107 hours until i get up to go hunting this sunday!

Re: Anyone hunted Jim Edgar Panther Creek area in IL?? good luck to ya, i hope you have fun!!! i probably won't hunt there until late season when there is fewer hunters. I own some land and have permission to a few other places, and will hunt those all year.

Re: Shed Traps [ QUOTE ] It's simple; feed under a picnic bench. Imagine a bucks head trying to feed under a picnic bench, it works. [/ QUOTE ] that would be simple, thanks for the idea!!

Re: Anyone hunted Jim Edgar Panther Creek area in IL?? i haven't ever bowhunted there, but have thought about it, I have dove hunted there tho. I have scouted it before and my uncle has bowhunted there. If you get out of the way deep into the property there are some monsters. In one evening sit my uncle seen two bucks that would go 170+ and ended up shooting a doe(the bucks wouldn't come into range), where do u live?? if u want to find out more you can go to their main office and most of the guys that work there will gladly share any info they have(including hot spots) hope this helps

Re: im worryed everyone it was probably just a very old doe, at least i hope it was just age and not disease!
-
Re: bad quality i have a moultrie and the only time it does that is when the picture is taken at night and the deer is within a few feet, and the flash washes out the pic
-
Re: cam cameras do you want a cam for a feeder or trail, i have a moultrie and it is great if the deer is there for a while but if something briskly walks past it the camera doesn't take a pic., as far as TRAIL cameras go i have two 35mm stealth cams that don't miss a thing, but i have heard the new bushnell trail sentry(digital) is good for trail use also. hope that helps

Re: Bow Hunting Dilema if it's possible get someone else to pick you up by driving across the field to your stand, the deer will run off but they won't see it as hunting pressure and will continue to come to the field

Re: Talon Digital Cameras i personally do not own the Talon, but what i have heard is that the trigger time is not near as fast as the Cudde's and th picture quality doesn't compare either, although i have heard a lot of bad things about Cudde's 06 cameras. Check out chasingame they have reviews on both of the cameras you mentioned as well as many others. good luck!!

Re: Opening morning? depending on the wind (usually NW or SW in this part of Illinois) i'll either be on a ridge between CRP and a bean field with oak flats on both ends of th ridge, or along a creek bottom between a bedding area and clover field, i might just wait to hunt till the afternoon but i don't kno if i can wait that long
