Different length sabot with Shockwaves(?)
livnreklis replied to silentgate's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: Different length sabot with Shockwaves(?) I think thats just padding they added cause of so many magnum loads being used now. -
Re: New Here and to Muzzleloading I think when everyone says spit patch basicly means you just run some sort of wet patched cleaner down the barrel. Then follow up by a dry patch between shots to keep the deposits down. Rather then doing a full brass brush scrubbing between shots. When I am at the range I clean after every 2nd shot and AI do the whole shabang with cleaner and a brush, cause I figure if I am using my ML for hunting my "kill" shot will be from a clean bore, and that is the base I want to sight in with.

Re: most cost effective scope Those are some sweet prices. I'm kinda ticked off at myself. I already picked up a scope and it was the bushnell shotgun banner series in camo with the circle-X. I went to a local gun show yesterday, and on one of the booths there was a bushnell Elite 3200 3-9 40mm, new for $100.00. That was a seriously great price, but could not justifiy picking it up cause of just buying one. Oh well live and learn......

Re: most cost effective scope Well I went and picked up a scope today, I ended up getting a bushnell shotgun scope, with the circle x in real tree camo to match my rifle. It not a super high dollar one, but it says shock proof, so we will see if it lives up to it. I figure if its designed to handle a shotgun recoil then its plenty good for a ML. Plus the scope is designed to be fast pointing and setup for the same ranges I will be hunting in. I put the Z2 alloy scope base and ring on it cause they are suppose to be really strong compared to normal alum rigs. I pulled out the breech plug and stuffed a lazer pointer into the back end of the barrel, and bore sighted it from there. With a little luck I will get to the range this weekend and see if I will be happy with it or not.

Re: Red dot sight Have you attempted targets out to 100yds with a reddot sight? Just wondering how it felt for you. I have used the Aimpoints on my M-203 when I was deployed (Iraq) but the mounts we were given were the ones that the aimpoint was extended out to the top of the foregrip, so it just felt to far away and bugged my eyes out, so I took it off. But I am willing to give it another shot, and the truglo 2x30 looks alot like the Aimpoint.

I have read up on this red dot sight with 2x mag sounds perfect for muzzle loaders. Anyone used this product and have any comments? http://www.truglo.com/content/prod_s.../reddot_x2.asp

Re: most cost effective scope I have a simmons ATEC on my .270 that I could try out, but all the bolts holding the scope down are all lock tighted with the heavy duty red stuff. So I kinda want to just leave it on there, maybe I will just get another ATEC cause its a pretty dlear pic coming out of that thing. But the Busnell elite has caught my eye as well.

whos using there smokepoles this year for season?
livnreklis replied to a topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: whos using there smokepoles this year for sea gonna try it out for the first time this year, with a CVA optima .50 with 130gr 777 pushing a 250gn TC shockwave sabot. Hoping getting in the woods earlier will increase my luck. -
Re: most cost effective scope I saw that scope at the store, just cant see shelling out more money for a scope then what the rifle was worth. Ok so I guess I need to refine this post some what is the best scope most of you feel would work well not going over $200.00?

Re: Cleanest powder pellets? thanks for the info. Glad to know this kind of stuff.

Re: most cost effective scope Thanks for your input. I was looking at this scope cause its right around what I want to spend and matches the camo on my rifle. http://www.swfa.com/pc-7289-183-new-bushnell-3-9x40-banner-dusk-dawn-rifle-scope.aspx

Re: CVA Kodiak vrs Thompson Center Omega X5 I think are about the same more people prefer TC. But I own a CVA and love it.

Re: Cleanest powder pellets? From what I heard 777 pellets are cleaner then pyrodex, and produce a little more ummmf per grain. Thats what I use, and I run 130grn charges and i'm happy with it.

Looking to maybe put a scope on my muzzle loader. Just wanted to get some ideas on a decent rugged but not over expencive best bang for the buck type setup.

Re: CVA optima magnum I think the shock wave is the same exact bullet as the Hornady SST cause if you look at them they look identical, just a different color tip is all. I am not surprised cause Hornady makes bullets for many different companys.

New to muzzleloading, need help!
livnreklis replied to buckmastermn's topic in Bluelk's Muzzleloader Room
Re: New to muzzleloading, need help! Funny that you said that cause I just picked up the latest Monster Bucks DVD that Walmart has. And there was one hunt with a young kid in a wheel chair. And it very much to me looked like he was hunting with a scoped NEF break open rifle. But I could be mistaken. I like the TC rilfes they are made right here in my state matter a fact the factory is like only an hour away from here. But I went with the rifle the guy at the store said would be a great starter rifle, and carry me through many hunting seasons if I choose not to upgrade. -

Re: New to muzzleloading, need help! I am new to M L as well, and wanted to give it a go this season. I picked up the CVA optima magnum, I picked this rifle over the optima pro cause it had a 2 inch smaller barrel, I just liked the idea of that hunting in thick brush. But its the same rifle and can change out with the same barrels as the pro. I have taken it to the range once so far, and I must say I am impressed with this M L, and for the price it was way worth it. Also remember you can also pick up the TC Omega for a fair price as well at your local Walmart. I paid about $250.00 for mine (CVA) and thats about all I was willing to spend. But it fits the bill for me. The Kodiak looks pretty sweet, I went for the break open action just seemed easier to clean. -
Re: Powerbelt AeroTip bullets I have shot the 245grn aero tips, and they grouped well for me at 50yds. But I have read alot on the net that either your rifle liked em or dont. Only thing I did not like was they went down the barrel way to easy, which has me thinking the best possible gas seal is not being made when firing, and I think that might be the issue many are having with accuracy. But they worked well in my rifle But I am going to stick with the TC shockwaves they seem to group well in just about every M L out there, so I like those stats better.

I decided to get into muzzle loading for deer season, to take advantage of getting out in the woods a little sooner. I picked up the .50 CVA optima magnum, the price was right and the ease of cleaning a break open barrel appealed to me. The guy at the store (also a muzzle loader hunter)and the guy that owns the store (a veteran hunter). Both recomended that I use the triple seven pellets cause its less corrosive then pyrodex. They also said the power belt ammo works great in my 1-28 twist barrel, so I picked up the 245gn bullets. I picked up the triple seven 209 primers designed for muzzle loading (so it says). I was also told that using full 150gn charges most rifles tend to get spread out grouping, they told me that 130gn charges work great. Anyways I took all this new knowledge, and headed to the range today to sight in my rifle, and just to plain try it out. It was an indoor 50yd range, so wind and stuff like that are not a factor. Shooting was done standing with no rest using open sights, I took 3 shot groups, cleaning the barrel after every second round, cause the groups started to spread out after the second shot. I made two simple sight adjustments, and shot 15 rounds all together. After getting it sighted in all bullet holes either over lapped or were touching, and never left the 10 ring. I feel that if I can group that well with open sights and standing at 50yds, then it should be plenty good for a 100yd shot if im using a tree as a rest. I am a Northern New England hunter, so most hunting is in dense woods and 100yd shots will not come up to often. I have seen old posts around the net about the power belt ammo and people having bad luck with them. So far I have a good review with them, its the only ammo I have run so far but its accurate so I will give it a go this season. I did all my shooting in 70deg weather, when it comes time to go hunting I assume the weather will be in the mid 40's high 30's by then, do you think this will play a big factor in my groups with it being sighted in, in moderate warm weather? I would also like to get a poll of what other ammo out there most of you are using, cause so far thats all I have run is powerbelts. And if theres ammo out there that has a great track history of grouping well in most muzzle loaders then its worth a look see. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/livnreklis/muzzleloader001.jpg
