  1. Guys...help me out here. I am looking to buy a new 4x4 quad this year. Any comments or suggestions on manufacturers?? I am looking into the Yamaha Grizzly or Suzucki King Quad... Any feedback here??
  2. maddhunter...does the Ameristep have enough room to sit comfortably, draw a bow, and shoot? I am 5'9, which isn't very tall, I just want to make sure the blind has room to move and shoot in the sitting position. Please let me know...info much appreciated.
  3. hahahahaha...I like that comment Ray. Every season and I looking for the newest apparel or products with the cool camo...can't ever get enough. hey...I look at it like this...there are worse things to be addicted to...am I right guys!!!
  4. from what all reports and info I have read...EHD has an effect on deer very quickly...within hours...a few days at best. hemmorhaging for the nose and mouth, I believe, are signs. Blue tongues are found with deer that die of this disease...
  5. EHD in PA... EHD IS IN SW PA...hundreds of dead have been found dead. This stinks...
  6. SW PA and parts of WVA are getting hit hard...this stinks!!!!

    Dead Deer

EHD or Blue Tongue as it is commonly referred to, is in the SW PA, WVA areas. I live about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh, very near Steubenville, OHIO, and places like New Cumberland, WVA... There have been hundreds of near found dead in my area!! Not good at all!! The disease is spread by a midge or flea-like bug...not deer to deer!
  8. how cold of temperature is needed to kill them off??
  9. I live very near to Georgetown, PA...about 15 minutes...off of 168...and about 15 minutes from New Cumberland, WVA...so I have heard all about the recent problem and I am paying close attention to it. I was out glassing the fields last night and saw some healthy deer out my way. I haven't yet walk the back of my farm where there is water so see if the problem has spread out my way just yet. This is a horrible situation and I pray for cold weather and a frost asap!
  10. good points rad and NY bowhunter... I will keep them in mind.
  11. I have a Scentloc jacket and pants...Savannah...so I agree 100%. They make some nice product and real comfortable..
  12. haha... I always tell her "it's a guy thing" Last year at this time, I bought a brand new truck. After I picked it up, I immediately drove 40 miles to the closest Cabela's and bought camo seat covers...my girlfriend thought I was nuts and wouldn't sit in the truck..,it was amuzing, but her stubborness lasted about 10 minutes...she is not a hunter...but likes to hear my stories. Someone needs to produce camo pattern bed cover, or maybe a bed cover with a big Team Realtree logo in the middle would be cool too. (my ideas are free Mr. Jordan...haha)
  13. Does anyone else out there have a camo addiction? I can't seem to get enough of the Realtree camo patterns. Especially hats, shirts, and other garments...I buy and buy and buy Finally Under Armor came out this year with a fitted camo hat featuring Realtree's All Purpose pattern. I dropped $30.00 on a hat without a second thought... My girlfriend and mom think I am nuts...personally, women have no room to talk when it comes to spending money! haha...
  14. Guys...this thread and the info it has presented is truly amazing. This is why I like this forum...because real hunters, who aren't making a dime of the materials, are presenting opinions, examples, and information that can make us all better in the field...that is what is important. I started this thread with an open-ended question, intending to get real feedback. Hunting and the equipment used obviously envokes an emotion in all of us...or else we wouldn't do this stuff. Let's all continue to keep this thread going in a light heard, yet very informative way. As the seasons get closer, the Rage broadheads will be used. I have been to a few different stores in my areas...most are sold out of them. Let's hope the hype brings some merit. I think this thread will only get better once the season starts! When the arrows start flying...I think the testimonials will be much more informative and more information will be presented that we can all benefit from!!! I can't wait to hear the stories and see the pics of deer harvested with the Rage...as I have said all along, I like the design philosophy...but it need to perform consitantly for me to spend my hard earned money! Keep up the great info guys...and let's keep rolling...the seasons are almost here!
  15. I have been on a rock star diet...pain killers and Ibprofan...good thing I don't have an addictive personality. I say that with humor because I have been resting and hoping things will be fine. Aside from possibly dialing down the bow a little, I have the problem of not being able to reach up and climb into a treestand. I am working through the pain...but I hope to stay ahead of the curve on the road to healing. Let's us all knock down some big bucks this year...
  16. I bought a ladder stand this past weekend and put it up in a tree in my yard to practice shooting out of. I am on the mend from a dislocated shoulder so with the help of my brother, we got it up and secured. I haven't gotten to shoot out of it yet, but my brother has and he is dialed in... hopefully the effort will pay off this season again.
  17. I was wondering how many bowhunters out there practice shooting at targets, of various distances, from a treestand (ladder or hanging) prior to or during the season?
  18. I think I am gonna get an Ameristep ground blind to hunt over the food plot I planted. I think I'd have a pretty good chance of harvesting a doe.
  19. Tim, Thanks for the feedback...let me know if you are gonna be up in this area. Wheeling isn't that far away from me either...maybe I can make it down to Cabela's... Talk soon.
  20. guys...thanks for all the comforting comments! Quick update...it was exactly a week yesterday and the healing process is coming along quite well. Fortunately, the xrays showed no breaks or fractures in the bones. Hopefully the soreness is from the muscle and initial trauma. On Monday, I was finally able to reach over and shift gears in my truck. Still today, certain motions are sore and I don't sleep real well at night...but all n all...I am much better. I spent the entire labor day weekend scouting to help get my mind off of things and get some adrenaline back to help the healing process. Saw a few shooters too. Wish me continued good luck as I wish each of you good luck this season!
  21. Tim...were you at the Sportsman Warehouse event last weekend? I stopped up there, but must have missed you or maybe you were in the back or something. Good luck this season... Quick question...when you say it took you 5 years to make the staff...can you share with me the steps you tooks to get there? What / how did you begin to get involved? Please share some insight as to what you did and how you went about getting where you are today...what was your recipe? I am 29 yrs. old and have been hunting since I was 12. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and work as an IT Technical Recruiter. in simple terms...I am a headhunter for computer professionals! Thus, I am hunting down something or someone year round! I'd like to start the journey to get to where you are today. Please let me know how to get started. Your insight and considerations are much appreciated!
  22. Just venting here guys...cause I am a competitive idiot! In the competitive nature of men's softball, I was playing in a playoff game Tuesday night, trying to get a double, slid into 2nd base head/hands first, and dislocated my shoulder! OUCH! Out of all my years of high school and college athletics, I never hurt myself as bad as I did this past Tuesday night! The funny things is...even though my arm was locked out of place, and I was in terrible pain, the first thought that went through my head wasn't I am gonna miss work tomorrow, my girlfriend is gonna kill me, was I safe or out, I am gonna miss the championship series...it was ARCHERY SEASON IS A MONTH AWAY AND I MIGHT MISS IT! 3 days removed from my injury, I still am seriously concerned with not being able to pull my bow back and hunt in 4 weeks!! Any advice guys?? ****...lie to me if you have to...just give me some mental comfort! haha
  23. yeah...one would think that with the various Realtree and Mossy Oak patterns, DB would get a license to one of those camo patterns. But, that is why I sit here and make comments on forums from my office computer and they manufacture and sell hunting blinds...haha...
  24. Recently, Elk hunting was re-introduced to certain parts of Pa. I was wondering if anyone has drawn a tag and hunted the Elk in PA? Just curious on the quality of the herd...
