  1. Copper John Dead Nuts in Camo. They have a 3 pin and a 5 pin option. You can also put a light on it for low light situations. I love mine!
  2. I would say around 130 max but closer to low 120's net. Not very much mass, width avg. height. Beams are not very long either. He is a nice buck though don't get me wrong.
  3. I couldn't agree with you more. The same thing is going on here in Central Iowa. I had 7 different does come by this morning with no bucks following. Seeing alot of small bucks. What chasing there has been-NOT MUCH was little bucks. I haven't seen the big ones since opening day pheasant season, which we kicked up. I think they may already be bred or rut is going to fall more into our shotgun season this year. I gave up sitting all day when I don't see nothing more than I did when hunting a couple hrs in morning and before dark. This bow season is such a drag!!!!
  4. 3 1/2 or older. I would say he would be close to 150 gross. Should net in the 140's for sure! He's a wallbanger in my opinion.
  5. Hello all Here is the first buck I ever shot and it happened to be a mounter. He is not very thick but a nice 10. What do you guys think he scores?

    Arrows

I prefer the Beman ICS Hunter 400's with 7" crest wrap and 2" Bohning Blazer vanes. I have shot these with the 4 in duravane but after shooting the Blazers I have a much faster arrow and tighter group.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try some of those tactics. I do understand that shooting basket racks isn't going to help. I have not shot a buck the last 2 years including shotgun for just that reason. I would rather fill my statewide with a doe than a young buck. I encourage the guys in my hunting group to do the same-some do and others are just rack hungery. Keep in mind I have been only deer hunting 7 years now and have been fortunate to have 2 really nice ones with a shotgun I just would really like to get one with a bow b/c that would be a great accomplishment for me, plus it has been 2 years since I have got some horns! As for the wind, I guess I haven't used it that much. I wear a scentblocker plus suit and have not had any issues of deer winding me that I know of. I have had the opportunity to shoot 7 different small basket rack bucks at point blank range this season and let them walk.

    8 pointer

Thats a dandy!!! Looks like good body size on him also!
  9. Congrats on a nice buck. That is awesone you taking the young ones out. I wish I had someone take me out when I was younger. I got into the sport from a couple friends at the age of 20 and wouldn't give it up for the world. I have 2 nice wall mounts already. I guess I consider myself very lucky but just can only imagine how many I would have if I started hunting around 10. I have a 2.5 yr old son and can't wait to get him out there. Oh yeah - Thant is one SWEET truck in that picture!!!
  10. Hello all. I have been bowhunting about 6 yrs and have had success. I usually get a doe everyyear and have got a couple small basket racks. I am kind of a novice in bowstand placement. I hunt in Iowa County, Iowa. Lots of crp with timber creeks sloughs etc surrounded by picked bean and corn ground for the most part. I keep looking for better places to hunt just not sure what makes the best set up. I usually look for rubs, scrapes and decent trails and place them near those but just have not had the big boys come close. I spend alot of time in the stand and don't hunt the same stand to much. Just wanted to see what some of you more experienced bowhunts advice would be. Thanks Eric
  11. Hello all. I was wandering how to get the mature ones to come in. I have seen some nice ones in the distance but just can't get them to come in. Maybe I am grunting wrong. Any tips on grunting. I use a truetalker, the can and rattle back. I also have the buck roar grunt call also. I just can't seem to capitalize on the big boys.

    SRA's STUD BUCK!

Wow! That is one hog of an 8 pt. I love the dark rack and mass on that bruiser!! Your QDM looks like is going just right for you!!
  13. Hello Great first buck. Reminds me of my first bow buck. You have to start somewhere and when I got my first it was quite a rush. I can tell by your pic. that you are feeling the same way!
  14. Hello. Way to go. I shot a doe and found no blood for along time and still ended up not finding her. Your lucky you spoted him go down man!
  15. Well everyone. Went out this morning and found dark red blood where she held up and followed blodd for another 200 yds or so with a few more good pools and then at the last pool it just ended. She headed into a CRP field(different propery). Me and my buddy checked every slough on that farm and came up empty handed. We think she could have ended up going clear to another property but not sure. Looking for trace blood in 10 year is very difficult. No arrow found either. We gave it a 3 hr. effort. I am just going to keep hunting I guess. Just a coincidence when we were looking a buddy shot I really nice 11 pt. 140's I would guess, from the same property this morning and was looking for it. He found it and I got a personal look at him at his house. I can't get frustrated over a doe there are alot of deer on this property and land owner wants them dead anyways so I am calling it quits and going back to the treestand tonight!

    new bow

Shoot as many brands as you can. I shot alot of them and the Hoyt just felt the best for me. Hoyt, Mathews, Fred Bear and Bowtech are all good bows. Its just up to you which one feels the best when shooting. I would get a whisker bisquit or drop away rest. As far as sights there are alot of good brands.
  17. Don't give up stay focused. It happens to the best of us. Keep hunting!!!
  18. Thanks for advice Rob. I'm sorry I just got caught up in the moment I guess. I got down and looked where I shot her after about 15 min. then it was dark. I went to a friends and got him. We waited a good hr. and went out and looked the best we could where I had last seen her. I made a good spot on where she held up for awhile and maybe I will find some blood there. I just ran out of daylight.
  19. Hello, I hammered a doe with the Hoyt tonight. Problem is I hit her up front I think b/c arrow crest wrap is showing sticking out of her. I think I hit her shoulder. I watched her run about 100 yds and then lost her. I found no blood on the bean stubble where shot took place. Do you think she is dead or is she just going to have a lame leg. If you think she is dead do you think I will be able to find her. I am going to go back and look in the morning when I have more light. Its pretty bad when you finally get a shot at one and you lose you arrow and the deer. Thanks
  20. Hello Was curious if anyone has layed a scent drag down in the dark before daylite. I have mixed feelings about it as I am afraid a buck might come charging at me. Didn't know if someone has done this alot with no problems. I have layed some in the afternoon when I could see all around better in case a deer was coming.

    Arrow dilema

Both are great. I would get some Beman ICS Hunters
  22. Hello Everyone. Was just curious if anybody is seeing much action of rut yet? I have not seen much action to speak of. The last couple of days I think they have hunkerd down w/ the high winds and colder temps.
  23. Hello Was wandering what would be the best bullet for whitetail deer in 7mm Rem Mag. What size grain? Recomended Brands? Hornady, Winchester Remmington etc.? Hollow point or full metal jacket etc? I want a good load that will have good knock down and acurracy with as little bullet drop as possible. Thanks
