I woke this morning to rain so I slept in a bit. I got up around 8, showered and headed to the farm where I hunt. I figured I would find a good place for my climber for the evening so I grabbed my chair to carry along to sit through mid day after I found my evening spot. It didn't take too long to find my tree so I set the chair up where the hardwood and pines meet with a ridge running parallel to this line. The wind was in my face blowing from the ridge so I figured if a buck walked it scent checking I would be in good shape. I bought a new grunt call so I gave her a few tending grunts and hit the snort wheeze not really expecting much as I've never used it. About ten minutes later I hear a deer coming quick from the ridge but the view was obstructed by the large poplar I had planned to use this evening so I didn't know what was coming, all of a sudden I see antlers from behind the tree as the buck reels backwards because he had also seen me at about 10 yards! I swung to the other side of the tree waiting for him to come into view but he didn't, I had swung too far! I looked up from my scope and he was standing broadside at 25 yards looking right at me so I shifted the rifle, settled the crosshairs and sqeezed off the shot! He ran about 50 yards and met his maker. Nice ten point with an inside spread of 19 inches. The bucks are really moving at mid-day here right now, he came through at 11:05.
