  1. Re: deer nutrition I know for a fact that a huge buck lives and will go right past my deer feed and minerals almost everyday. I know exactly where he beds down. I have placed the food really close to his bedroom and the minerals inside of a small meadow. I will have a tree stand up in a meadow right next to the one that has the mineral lick on the ground. I will also stop putting the food by the bucks bedroom and put it in the meadow with the minerals and water that I will pack up there. The deer have to come down the hill a ways to get any water so I thought that I would pack it up there for them so they wouldn't have to leave their little sheltered area. I plan on hunting this area during first archery season. I mix the deer feed with corn to make it last longer, since I plan on doing this for the next few months and it will help it last longer. I figured I would try it since about every whitetail hunter does this with great success. A lot of people use to believe that you couldn't rattle in a blacktail like a whitetail deer, but we all know that is wrong. I would like to prove that deer feed, mineral licks, food plots will also work wonders for blacktail hunting. If it is a bust; I will give it up and save myself the extra work and money.
  2. Has anyone tried or had any luck using the Whitetail Institute's 30-06 mineral/vitamin supplement or their cutting edge products, or buck grub. I am hunting blacktail deer in the Oregon coast range. Thanks
  3. Re: More rifle scope decisions. I really like the Burris scope. I know a few people that have the Fullfield 2 and love them. Im thinking about getting one.
  4. Re: Putting out minerals???? Finn I would like your recipe. Could you send it to me.
  5. Re: Food plot They have pretty good natural food sources, but I'm trying to give them the best all around diet I can. Clover, alfalfa, vitamins, minerals, buck grub deer food, etc. I could plant in a clear cut, so the deer would only feed at night, but possibly hold the deer in the area. A blacktail deer range is a mile at the most and home range 100yds to 1/2 mile. I only have one tree stand and would like to keep the bucks as close to that area as possible.
  6. I hunt in the Oregon coast range. This is a thick rain forest environment. I only got a couple of small meadows to plant seed. I could probably make a 60ft*60ft plot with NO PLOW, since I can't get any equipment 2 miles behind a locked gate. Would this be enough to attract deer, or would they eat it to fast to even make a difference?
  7. Re: game Finder I have got to use a $12,000 IR finder from the military. I could see deer and people out to 900 yds. It would have been the best hunting toy if I could only afford one. I also got to watch 2 bull elk fight during the rut over 300 yds away. It had a pretty good zoom and was clear, but was from the military and I had to give it back.
  8. Re: Who claims the buck First blood gets the buck. I bet that deer would have died anyways with a gut shot and a wounded leg like that. I think he should have kept the deer. Good job on helping him out.
  9. I have had tons of problems with my trail camera's and think the Cuddeback may be the only camera that is worth the money. It has got the best reviews that I could find. I did see a few people post reviews saying their cuddeback got water and insects(ants) inside, the battery life not lasting long, batteries coming out and turning camera off, or the battery door coming off. Has anyone else had or heard of these problems. I don't know if I should wait another year to see if any better Cuddeback models come out. I would like to have another camera by June so I don't mind waiting and seeing what comes out for 2007.

  12. Re: Leupold Vs. Nikon binoculars Ive sent back Nikon bino's to be worked on and it was free every time. I think they stand behind their product.

  14. Re: deer I posted this in different forums to try and get as many respones as possible. Some people don't go in every forum. I wanted to ask as many people as possible.
  15. I live and hunt blacktail deer in the Oregon coast range (mountains). I hunt on timber company land 1-2 miles back behind locked gates. I would like to attract deer and possibly help antler growth without spending thousands of dollars a year. Would it be good to put out mineral blocks and alfalfa year round, while hanging my 30 gallon barrel of deer food 2 weeks prior of season and throughout the season to help with this? I don't mind the hard work, but would like to know if this sounds good and what mineral supplement and deer food people would recommend. I have heard of people doing food plots here in the Oregon coast range, but the animals eat it all in just days leaving nothing left. They told me that I would have to do a very huge area for a food plot to last, but that is impossible here in the extremly thick forest. The largest openings are only like 20ft by 20ft., and there is not very many of those where I hunt. The ground in almost completly covered by trees, ferns, and shade. So does a food plot still sound like it would work in such a small area? Im not worried about people finding my spot. I have really never seen anyone hike as far back behind the locked gates as I do. We can use salt, food plots and feed in our state. I don't mind packing in supplies. I just want something that won't cost a thousand dollars or farm equipment. I'm manly wanting to attract deer and possibly help with their health and antler growth.
