Re: Nikon Monarch Midway Shooting Supply had a big promo on these. Check them out.

Re: Snake Boots You will need them! I have unfortunately field tested the Rocky's and they work! I stepped on a canebrake that hit me about 2" above the ankle in South Georgia a few years back! He did not even have the courtesy of rattling! Chaps are a good way to go also!

Re: 300 wsm I can kill a deer with a 22LR. I do not have to have a magnum to kill a deer at 300 yards+. I shot a deer two years ago at 358 yards with a .308 Win. I like the room for error with the larger bullet. A 243 does not do as much tissue damage on a deer as a 30 caliber that travels at 3000 fps @ muzzle. You are comparing bb's to baseballs with this one! You let old Nolan Ryan (Back in his prime) throw a marble at you goijng a 100 mph and it is going to hurt. Then let him throw a baseball at you going a 100 mph and you are going to the hospital! What would have happened if you had went through the shoulder? My deer would be missing two shoulders while you spent all day tracking yours. This is real...

Re: 300 wsm [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I have no need in using anything heavier than a 180 grain bullet in Georgia. I only hunt whitetail and black bear. [/ QUOTE ] If you want to take that approach, you have no need for anything bigger than a 30-30. Or if long range shooting is offered, a 243 Win or 25-06 Rem will do the job. In factory guns, the cartridge makes little difference in the accuracy. The inherent accuracy of a certain cartridge is only a factor when its a custom gun. The tolerances in a factory gun eliminate any benefit one cartridge has over another. [/ QUOTE ] I use a 165 grain Hornady SST for up close and long range shots on whitetail. I like the velocity of the 165 gr in the 3000 fps ball park. You can't get this from a 30-30 or one of the mentioned VARMINT calibers. The velocity may be there, but the bullet weight is not. With the loads I shoot, I get great velocity and shoot a decent sized bullet.I get penetration, accuracy and lots of knock down. These are all the things that anyone would want with a caliber that is used for whitetail deer in the places that I hunt. A 30-30 is something that I would not take to a place where I might get a shot over 100 yards due to accuracy and its loss of energy. The 243 and 25-06 have the range, but not the knockdown that I want.

Re: Browning Guns I love them! I have an A-Bolt in the .308 Win.

Re: 300 wsm [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The 300 WSM is a more accurate round than the 300 Win Mag. just as the .308 Win is a more accurate round than the 30-06. The smaller cases allow the powder to burn more uniformly, thus making them more accurate. [/ QUOTE ] I have no need in using anything heavier than a 180 grain bullet in Georgia. I only hunt whitetail and black bear. If I need more than a 180, I will get my 300 Win Mag out. Try seating a 220 gr bullet in the 300 wsm and we'll se whos gun is more accurate [/ QUOTE ]

Re: Deer Hunting with a .22cal Rifle All calibers will kill a deer if proper shot placement is done. A small caliber allows very little room for error. I personally do not hunt deer with anything less than a 30 cal.

Re: 300 wsm The 300 WSM is a very good caliber as well as the Ruger M77. I own 3 Ruger M77's, 1 Win Model 70, 2 Browning A-Bolts, 1 Savage 110 and 1 Remington 700. The Ruger M77's are a great and very durable rifle!!!
