  1. Thank you very much for posting this. I carry a news clipping of a mother and daughter weeping at the funeral of the father and son killed in a hunting incedent. The father mistakenly shot his son, then in grief killed himself. I show it to each and everyone of my students in hunter education classes. I will try to find a clipping on this and add it to my classes. I truely wish I had no reason to bring up these issues, but every year there has to be at least one event that makes it into my class. My heart goes out to the family.
  2. I shoot a TecHunter Extreme made by Diamond for Gander Mountain. I like this bow very much for many reasons. It is light, reasonably fast and VERY quiet. I even had a Mathews dealer comment on the low noise level.
  3. Super news !! A year is a great accomplishment. But be ever vigilant knowing that smoking is an addiction and one is never safe from those. Again, congrats on the year !!
  4. I know this may rile some in here, but this my second year using my Mossy Oak SuperElite turkey vest. Now the part that will make die hard Realtree fans happy. The MO vest is coming apart already. One of the straps holding the butt cushion up tore off the other day. I do not treat this vest rough and as a matter of fact, I may have worn it 20 times between last year and this. So I would expect more from it. Looks like I will be shopping around for a different one. I don't know about the SUV vest, but I will be looking into it as well as the Primos vest and others. Good luck to you.
  5. Good luck with your surgery.
  6. Well, here's the deal. I am making my arrangements now to head to Idaho. I am going to fly into Missoula Mont and drive across the Coninental Divide and drive along the Salmon River on my way to Challis Idaho. There I will speak to a high school and then a middle school about dipping and the dangers of it. I will fly out of Houston on May 8th and fly back late on May 9th or early May 10th. Not gonna have time to hunt, but would like to at least say howdy to fellow hunters.
  7. If every sportsman/woman would stop giving business of any kind to Wal Mart, maybe they would listen. In case no one has noticed, they are trying real hard to be like Target. More steps are coming to go in that direction, sit back and watch. Personally, I am all for the return of the Mom & Pop stores of yesteryear.
  8. Since posting this poll about 3 hours ago, I decided to check the totals again. So far there have been over 3000 more votes for No and only a little over 450 votes for yes.
  9. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3045574&page=1 A link to the poll is in middle of page. Make your opinion known ! The results so far: No. Violent shootings are isolated incidents and it's irresponsible to link them to gun control. 62,683 Yes. This shows the violence that can occur when someone has access to handguns.22,710 I'm not sure. I need more information.1,691 Total Vote: 87,084

  12. Re: Dish Network High Speed Internet? I went to direct tv from dish because they dropped the outdoor channel. Don't know if they got it back.
  13. Re: Anyone in Michigan? Not entirely. But the first time I went there, a big ol' tom walked across their back drive and into the timber thicket right at dark. I was the only one sitting in the corner room and got to watch it walk past from two different sliding doors. Beautiful thing. Glad they live in the country.
  14. Was just curious as to if anyone lived in or around the Traverse City. My wife is from Thompsonville and we go up that way every other year to visit her family. This happens to be a go year, maybe. Would be interested in meeting up with fellow hunters for chat as I get bored real quick listening to....... well, I get bored.
  15. I live in southeast Texas. And I am very fimilar with the saying; "If you don't like the weather in Texas, give it minute, it'll change." Well, Friday was an enjoyable high 70's day spent working with tractor. This morning I took my kids to a local Easter egg hunt in the SLEET !! And naturally, by Tuesday or Wednesday, it is suppose to be in the low 80's. Oh well, didn't get a chance to go turkey hunting this weekend anyhow. But as for next weekend... HAPPY EASTER Y'ALL !!
  16. Well, opening weekend has come and gone in Texas. I was able to return to the ranch outside of Del Rio that I hunted last year. Rain was the name of the game on the trip down there on Friday, including a hail storm on Friday night. Saturday morning though was clear and wonderful. The first bird to show was a lonesome hen. About 10 minutes behind her was a jake. I bided my time and at around 9:45 a.m. a group of 6 hens and 2 toms came by. Those toms were hot and refused to come out of strut. As the hens started filtering off, I figured this was my last chance at this group. Despite his head being almost completely tucked back in strut, I fell the two year old tom. Unfortunately, about half his beard paid the price. Oh well. I never got close to another gobbler but came close on several occasions and had a blast doing it. The pictures below were of one that came by the ranch house. After he disappeared, I got my camera and calls and sat at edge of fence. One short series of strikes on a Primos Ol Glory brought that tom running back and I was able to get the pics. Naturally, we weren't allowed to shoot birds at the house, but it made for a great experience.
  17. Re: Gotta Love Spring Fishing (pics) Super nice fish !! Where were you fishing?
  18. Hopefully this will post. This was my last fishing trip before turkey season opens. Not many were caught and wind was high, but back of the creek fishing was good.

  21. Saturday March 17 was a sad day for law enforcement in Texas. Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Justin Hurst was gunned down in the line of duty. He died in route to a hospital. On top of his senseless death, Saturday was his 34th birthday. He leaves behind a wife and 4 year old son. He will be greatly missed by his families; immediate, law enforcement and religious.
  22. No Trophy, but it is the first bass of 2007. Soon as turkey season is done, I hope to have many more.
  23. Re: Heroes Fans Ok, just my two cents. But that show........ Rocks ! And it's addictive.
