  1. It's against the law in Maine.
  2. The Undertaker is a pretty good choke tube in my Ulti-Mag. I pattern with a lot of shells each season and use 2 different models, (one for a hevi-shot load). There's no comparison when testing it against any factory choke tube, including the newer Xtra full hokes. It patterns great out to 45 yards which is my limit. Of course, you should try several different loads as all pattern differently. Example: a 3.5" Remington or Winchester, (even in hevi-shot loads and #6), patterns way worse than when I shoot Winchester 3" #5's! Go figure but that's what my gun likes. However...if I miss the first shot and need a 2nd...my back-up shell is a Remington 3.5" hevi shot. It patterns like crap at 30 yards compared to the 3" but patterns better at the 40-45 yd mark.
  3. Here in midcoast Maine they're gobbling on the roost between 5:15 and 5:30am on clear mornings.
  4. I use the HS Undertaker with Winchester Supremes in 3" #5's. That combo is deadly out to 35 yards but I find that a back-up shell in Remington hevi-shot does better at the 40-45 yd mark. That's an important point for all of us who might miss a close shot, (been there, done that), and needed a second when ole tom is a runnin'! Just make sure you have the right choke for hevi-shot loads, too. And in my opinion, we shouldn't try to shoot past 40-45 yds max, though if your gun does it, I guess it's a judgement call.
  5. Maine birds have been strutting hard and actively breeding since late March. Strutting is going on everywhere right now and lots of fighting/dominance being established. Maine youth day is April 28th and we're taking a couple kids out for first turkeys, then it's off to hunt VT myself.
  6. That's a tough one but for me, I call for a certain amount of time, then clam up completely and wait another designated amount of time in case a silent gobbler comes in, as they sometimes will. If nothing, I move.
