  1. I'm not the best at scoring a rack on the hoof However, I'd say that the buck probably scored in the 160s. As I said though I'm not that good at this.
  2. My parents own a farm My parents own a 350+ acre farm in upstate NY. So I used to live and hunt on that. However, I now have gotten a job in the Buffalo, NY area. It's a five hour drive so I'm looking for options in western NY to hunt when I don't have time to go back home. The buck to doe ratio is way out of whack and deer management isn't what I would like, however it's great having your own land to hunt on. - Dan
  3. I've seen them I've seen some as early as late September. I've seen more bucks make rubs than scrapes. I think that's just a coincidence. - Dan
  4. Hunt his travel routes If you can find out where the big buck is bedded then hunt his travel route to the feeding grounds. If you do like many have said be smart. If the wind or stand location isn't right then don't hunt anyway. First, see if he's hanging around just in the edge of the field/feeding area. The only problem with this is trying to setup on him, when he could be chasing does all over just inside the cover. Try not to call him in unless you see him and are trying to bring him in closer. If he's with a doe, then you may want to try calling in the doe and have him follow. -Dan
  5. Wait I would also wait. If the wind is wrong, it doesn't even matter if you're 30 feet up. Sometimes I think I've had wind carry over deer, but you can't know that for sure. The thicket being in the middle of the field doesn't give you many options to setup, but it sounds like a smart buck so I wouldn't risk it with a wrong wind. -Dan
  6. Quick Hunting Shots I've found myself shooting more poorly when I try to be extremely accurate shooting at paper targets. It seemed I could have tight groups, but I would be aiming longer than I really needed. My groups were always to the right or just under dead center (I shoot right handed). What helped me was shooting at a 3-D target. However, simulate quicker hunting shots. Have some one move the target without you looking. When turning to look at the target, pick a point, and then only take two or three seconds to aim and release after fulldraw. This helped me in other ways, but I noticed it broke my habit of producing unwanted results by aiming the way I did. I've heard Randy Oiker talking about something really similar to what I typed, too. I'm not a bow expert at all, but I hope this helps. -Dan
  7. I found paper tuning easy. I've just gotten into bowhunting, within the past few years. I paper tuned a bow for the first time and found it easy. Although, a trip and discussion with a local archery shop seemed to help me quite a lot.
  8. Hey Tim Tim, Hey it's Dan. I'm now signed up for Realtree Forums, like you suggested last night, at the Henrietta Gander Mountain. It's been a day and I've already gotten some help with locations. Also, I wanted to say thanks again for the help you gave me in finding some locations. I don't know if I'll be able to make it to the Cabelas grand opening, but I'm sure the turn-out will be much better than last night. I forgot his name, but if you talk to the guy from G5, tell him I said good luck up in Montana. It was great talking to you. Good luck in the upcoming season, Dan Bugbee
  9. Thanks Thanks again for the help everyone. Good luck to you all this coming season. Any more suggestions feel free to send them my way. - Dan
  10. Hello everyone, My name is Dan and I've just moved to north Buffalo, NY. Last night, at the Henrietta Gander Mountain, I was talking to Tim Andrus from Team Realtree about where to hunt in western NY. He told me I should go on here and ask around. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan
