  1. That really is a shame, my buddy came up on two bucks about three weeks ago. The one was dead (2 1/2 eight point) and the other (3 1/2 ten point) buck was very much alive. His brother was green chopping and saw a deers hind end down in a ditch, and as he was getting closer the deer wasn't moving. When he was next to them he could see that there were two bucks locked together, then went back to get his brother (the shooter) They came back and could see that the smaller of the two was dead. The 10 pt. was throwing the dead deer like a rag doll. He told me at times the live buck was flipping the dead deer right off the ground. Finally after getting into position, he took a shot and finished off the live buck. After it was all over we found that the 8 pt. had a broken neck, the lucky one of the two. They were only locked together no more than a day, because they chop the field each day and there was nothing there the day before. Nature is not always pretty.
  2. Thanks for the kind words on the bucks. I'm the (handicap) dude with the 8 pt, that's my fifth 3 1/2 year old in the last five years from that same blind. Being in a wheelchair and hunting from the ATV makes it tough sometimes, but with allot of hard work planting food plots and passing the 1 1/2 year olds just makes one's chances better each year. And lets not forget the help of good friends. And one's way of thinking, you can do almost anything you set your mind to, JUST HUNT. This year I started to use the Grim Reaper broad head, do to the trouble I've had getting others to fly in the past, the Grim Reaper flys very good from my crossbow and does leave one heck of a hole. I used it on a doe early this year and was really happy with the blood trail. (you still need to shoot them where you should) After the bucks fast recovery, I'm hooked on it's performance. Thanks again
  3. Nothing like living in the good ol' USA you can't do this in France!! Good job!!!
  4. I just love the mass, he's got that low, fighting style rack, and I agree with grossing in the 150's. Congrats on a great deer.
  5. All in the family, to bad you missed, but it's alot better than wounding him or something bad happening, your day will come. Congrats to the lucky hunter.
  6. That's a dandy, way to go. Body looks to be good size, what was his weight, and did you check his age?
  7. Congrats on your first, theres only one first!
  8. We are not perfect we are human. But way to go on the tracking job, been there done that, those that say they have never boogered one is either lying or has not shot at to many deer before, it happens. None of us go to the woods to wound a deer. The outcome was good. CONGRATS!
  9. Does it get any better? That's a great story, and very cool to have your daughter involved. Very nice! CONGRATS!
  10. Super nice deer, thank god and the troops, for if it were not for them, this would not be, feels good, don't it? CONGRATS!
  11. Let me change that to 152 3/8 (have to get the 3/8 in there!)
  12. Who ever said the handicap can't hunt? I've been doing it for 22 years without the use of my legs, paralized. But one can do whatever they put their mind to, and you just put down one heck of a buck, a job well done. My guess is the upper 140's

    Broadheads?

I smoked two deer this year with the Grim Reaper broad heads. The first was a doe at 20 yards. Shot her through the pump station and she went only 40 yards. The second was a 190# three year old this last Tue. And it only went 45 to 50 yards with one heck of a blood trail. I would post some pictures, but being new to the forum I don't know how! As for the rage heads, don't use the three blade, my buddy shot a doe on our first week of archery season, with a complete pass through and it never opened. No blood, just a soaked arrow and head. He did find the deer a week later. It was a good shot, but just two holes and no blade marks.
  14. Way to go Cole, you are now a blood brother to all who hunt and enjoy the gift from god. The whitetail! Now that's what I call going out for fast food. Enjoy the best darn, hard earned pure eates, you'll ever have.
  15. Our land is hunted and managed for the well of the land. We shoot the smaller does, and even thinking of taking doe fawns this year. We don't have a big chunk of land compaired to some, it's 180 acres with crop fields used for the farm. Yes we plant plenty of food plots for the animals, which helps take some stress of the wooded acrage. As for the bucks we choose to hunt. We do our best to harvest only 3 1/2 year olds, but if it's big enough that you want to mount it, have at it. Every buck that comes off the land must be put on the wall, that's the rule. But it's easy to do with only 2 of us hunting it, and we are both on the some page. We are getting some of our neighbors involved with management over the last years, to at least pass the 1 1/2 year old and shoot some does. As you know, we here in WI have earn a buck in most DMU's this year, and I for one didn't think there were many deer, but with all of our years shooting does, there still is plenty to go around in most areas. But no matter how many we take, it will never be enough, because some just won't shoot does.
  16. Man you have yourself a nice looking future food plot. I just got on here today, great reading. Having used Imperial products for the past 11 years, I would use something of theirs. From what I can see in your pictures, after you get your results of the soil test, (and I think you will need lime) treat to the specs. From what I have been told, lime takes a min. of 6 months to begin working on the ph. so for this year I would use just the Secret spot or No-Plow, they are both annuals. Then next year do another test to see where you are at. Then you could do a parenial if you wish. But I persoally would not this year anymore. And I to would remove a few more trees, most if not all plants will need a min. of four hours sunlight.Hope this helps some.
