Team #19 -- Pass Thru Crew
Dubie replied to texastrophies's topic in Announcements & Online Contests
First off, sorry I havn't been updating. Don't worry though, I havn't forgotten you. I started a new job, and moved to a new town. I've also been hunting hard. So far I passed on a bunch of does and some small bucks, but there's a few weeks and three tags left. I'm in a new area, right in the middle of the season, and I'm still learning where to hunt. Here's hoping I don't actualy get skunked for the first time ever. -

Back from Churchill. It turns out I couldn't get that Caribou hunt in. I did find a younger polar bear though (apparently its early in the season for those critters yet). Watch for pictures on the boards when I get around to loading them onto the computer. Back to deer hunting this weekend for me. -

Just a quick update for the pass thru crew. I'm leaving this saturday to go to churchill, and I'll be gone for about 10-11 days for work. I'm going to have a couple free days in there, and I fully intend to bring my bow, however, my focus won't be on the good old white-tail (I"m not even sure if you can find them that far north). I'm buying a tag for a game animal I've never been able to hunt before, Caribou . That being said, if I so happen to see a good buck instead, I'll be putting my arrow in him. -
Cover scent, make your case. What do you perfer?????

I shower with plain water the night before, and wash my hunting cloths in warm water with no soap, and hang to dry. I mind the wind when I hunt, and have managed to stalk into bow range of bear, moose, whitetail, elk, and a grey wolf...In my opinion, you don't need scent blocker products. And even if you use them, you'll be busted all the same if you don't pay attention to the environment. -
In my opinion (and its just an opinion) Savage is the way to go if you want good quality on a buget.

Sorry I didn't get on the name debate. Busy hunting This weekend I didn't even see anything that made me want to take my bow of the hook. But the seasons still early. -
There are a few in Manitoba, and we have the spring hunt available here. A quick Google will get you quite a few names.

I've been trying to take my fiancee hunting since we met. She did come for a few hours of waterfowl hunting with me once, but didn't enjoy the walk in the marsh or the carrying of dead geese....

My eyes are still good enough I can just take my glasses off when they fog up to much...

Well, I was at my taxidermist today, and picked up my bear skull. Some quick eyeballing with a tape measure and it looks like it might make 18" (Pope and Young minimum). Makes me kind of peeved my bow chose in the stand trying to draw down on the bear to malfunction on me....But I'm still impressed with that number. I'll measure more carefuly tonight and post some pictures.

Brown Bear Crawling All Over, and We Can't Harvest Them
Dubie replied to aksheephuntress's topic in Big Game & Exotics
I would definatly love a chance to get one of the "Endangered" polar bears from Churchill. I would put in for that draw every year, and take the train ride up every time I drew the tag. On a side note, can someone please explain how polar bears are endangered when thier population is about 3 or 4 times higher then they've ever been observed to be? -
"large domestic cat or a black panther from Africa " I'd think it would take one huge domestic cat to have even the slightest possibility of confusing it with a panther from Africa.... I have only ever seen two Cougars in Manitoba, and both were normal coloured. But where there's more big cats, I can see the chances of having one or two come up Melanistic. A melanistic cougar could easily be seen as a "Black PAnther" I'd think.

If I were the kid, I'd turn in my helmet if thats what it took to get my sights on my first Elk...Then again, I've never cared for sports. The games interfere to much with hunting and fishing .

I'm still waiting on a first little one to show up, so I suppose it'll be atleast another 18-25 years or so before I get to post this...

It happens everywhere, and will continue to happen until they revoke native sustinance hunting rights in North America, and make everyone pay the same for licences, and follow the same quota's. I've witnessed Natives using spotlights and pickup trucks to shoot deer off the road, at night, out of season. All they would take were antlers. All meat left to rot. I've seen a young Native kid shoothing spring malard ducks out of a ditch with a .22 for "target practice" he claimed. He never recovered one duck, and told me "Its OK. I'm only shooting greenheads". I come across two young native men one spring, using a pitch fork to spear spawning northern pike out of a flooded drainage ditch during the closed to all fishing season. When asked why they were taking so many big pike...."Because its fun". Every last fish was left rotting on the bank. I could keep going on about the waste I've witnessed from those who clame to be the most in tune with Mother Earth. Who make claims they take care of the land, waste not a single scrap. Use every piece for sustinance. You ask me, its all lies, told so they can keep living for free, poaching and raping the land at the expense of the tax payers...My rant is done. Sorry, but this stuff just gets under my skin.

I set my pins from the ground and just aim a touch low from the tree. Works for me. But I do both ground and tree hunting through the season, so unless I buy another bow, I'd have to make a compromize either way.

Dubie, as is my name in every online space I frequent. I don't have much imagination....

I don't know what to tell you. I've passed on bigger deer, and shot smaller deer, passed up smaller deer, and killed bigger. To me a trophy isn't a number, its an individual animal. When I see the deer I'm going to take with that tag, I just know...
