Good deal Luke! Ill be looking for a fat old doe as well.
-
Looks like team 5 has stolen our 1st place lead. Hope you get a 30 pointer Hoosier and close the door. Still chasing some 8's and 9's but nothing that will count for an upgrade. Hunting in AM with crossbow and then to KY for our last hunt with the ML. Hunting gets tough now - time to suck it up and finish strong.

Hey Bob, I'm up for it if Steve is still willing to have us in Spring 2016? Do you want to apply this time?
-
No doubt the trail can is responsible for getting me motivated and hunting more.

Well, it's that time of year again (IL season starts Monday). Time to get the rail lubed up and move my phat heads over from my arrows to my bolts. Really love mixing things up between my compound, crossbow, ML, shotgun, and for the first time ever my rifle (in Kentucky). Good luck to all the crossbow hunters out there and be sure to post your pics!

Got the video to work. Great job with the hunting and video work.

Glad it worked out for you all this year. Don't see a video. Shooting a doe during the rut - sometimes I do. Depends on where I'm at, how far of a drag I have, if good bucks are known to be in the area, if I know bucks are chasing, how many does are in the area. and what type of tag I have, and if I'm in a earn a buck area by shooting a doe first.

I see - well, may whatever deer happens to be the biggest in your area rest upon the crosshairs of your scope!
-
Good luck with that 7! Dandy buck. The unicorn buck has vacated the area. Only got pics once in August. There are 2 shooters I've got November pics of. A 130 inch 8 and a 140 inch 9. Maybe something else will show up after this weekend's 4 day second gun season. I might get out once or twice with the gun, but looking forward to crossbow that starts Monday!

Once my supplies from last year are used up I'm done with scent control products. The only exception might be a spray for my boots prior to walking into a stand. Scent block, lock, whatever clothing has no advantage over the normal clothing from my experience. Best thing to do is play the wind and then when that big buck comes into your set (downwind anyway) hope that thermals are lifting your scent up and that you're high enough not to get busted. I'm not drinking the Ozonics cool aid either.

Ill participate this year. Thanks for running this again - Frank

All my Christmas shopping is done thanks to online shopping. What's the story with sales tax! I remember years ago I purchased a generator for 900.00 and paid ZERO sales tax! It was an out of state store (which is exactly what I was looking for). Now it seems no matter where I order from I get charged an IL online sales tax. Freaking Illinois. So unless I'm mistaken we do NOT pay sales tax for our hunting license and deer permits. Is that correct? If so - then HA! Eat it Illinois - all my deer meat is tax free and another reason to hunt for food in the woods instead of the store.

I only have two and check one about twice per month. It's in the tree I hunt in and check it when I hunt that location. The second I only check about once per month because its not real close to a stand I hunt but the deer that move by it generally go by the stand 50 yards down the trail.

Ruth, I hope you get one with the smoke pole. I love ML hunting. Our ML season starts this Thursday then crossbow opens till season ends in January. So far I have 2 shooters in my core hunting area (40 acre private farm near my house). For me anything 125 or bigger is a shooter since the neighboring farms shoot anything. Haven't seen the unicorn buck since August. The two i have recent pics of include a estimated 130 inch 8 point and 140 inch 9 point. There are several 2.5 year olds running around so I hope they make it through the gun season this weekend. Also going to KY one more time in hopes for a big buck. The KY Smoke pole season starts in a couple more weeks. Good luck to everyone - the half time break is over - time to take it to them!

Just made some chili yesterday an currently have a roast in the crockpot. Congratulations To you and your son in law Steve!

Here we are almost in 2015 and some "people" are just looking for a reason to be violent. I'll bet MLK Jr is rolling in his grave with disgust. My best friend since high school worked at the Walgreen's they burned down.

I use loose powder - prefer to measure and pack myself. Have heard a few people tell me that pellets are at times missing some sections lowering the number of grains a little. Also have heard more people telling me that their gun wouldn't fire when using pellets than those using loose. I have never had a problem with my powder igniting die to moisture and last year it was going back and forth between 20 degrees to 70 degrees for at least 3 weeks. At the end of the 3 weeks (and the season) I inserted a primer and boom - it went off just fine. The only problem I ever had with my ML was with a primer not going off during target practice.

Very nice deer and kudos for sticking with the bow during gun season even after the close call. Al's got a great place to hunt that's for sure. I've been hunting he Midwest for 30 years and unless you have a large tract of land to manage it's not common to get giant buck activity on a regular basis like Al describes. Now Ohio might be the exception - (just ask Chris - Tominator).

Load mine first day of season - leave loaded till fired (or rain) just like William. At end of season I shoot and clean then store inside in a safe. I do not use any barrel grease but then I have a stainless barrel. When making sure my scope is on I load, shoot, run a dry patch, then a wet one (bore solvent) then a dry one, load and shoot again. When finished I clean thoroughly until opening day.

I have used Remington and federal 20 G slugs. I've had better accuracy with Remington. That's all I got on 20 G slugs.
-
That's crazy William! I think I pay about 4K for myself and my two kids each year for health insurance as a teacher at a state college. Deductibles have went up and coverage for drugs is worse.
-
Congratulations! Great buck in the truck! Antlers look like a 3.5 year old, but that body looks more like 4.5 or 5.5. Did you get a weight?

cooold morning pays off-accura good on another long range backyard buck

William, just hang on to them - I'll ask my friend about the shipping. He's management so I would think they would know how to ship and take care of any expense. That's really great about the trail cam picture. Adds another "coolness factor" to what's already the best sport on earth! -
Congratulations to you too Ruth! Great looking buck you got - I love that picture. Our team is having a time this year!

Some fantastic deer there Hoytshooter! Congratulations to both of you!
