Coopers and a Redtail series...
Chenango Dave replied to Chenango Dave's topic in Photography & Video
Yeah - I'm pretty sure he's still snoozing if he's still around- we still got about three feet of snow on the ground in the woods. Until this rains hits today anyway... -
These are the first ones I've gotten of a Coopers taking flight. Them suckas are fast.. And a series of a mature Redtail pitching off a Spruce top. And a eagle from down by the river.. Hope you guys aren't bored with all the raptor pics.. I haven't seen anything else worth shooting - maybe I'll have to sit out by the birdfeeder... Take care Dave

Another hunt with Roxie... (pic heavy)
Chenango Dave replied to Chenango Dave's topic in Photography & Video
You hit the nail right on the head there Wooly. She actually got a little excited just after I was weighing her and before I put her in her travel box. She reached up and gave me a little love tap below the eye. Not once - but 2 days in a row, right in the same spot..:poke: Little witch...lol... -
Sorry - no wabbit pics again today. Of course most of the problem we had was the depth of the snow - if you could walk on top you're ok - but as soon as you fell thru - you're over your knee caps.. But it was a nice day to get out and enjoy the outdoors with her and some good friends. Me and Roxie.. My friend Doreen and Roxie. I tiold her it can be a little scary the first time she flies at ya..Her face says it all... Here's my buddy SlipBob calling her in so I could get some landing shots.. I though this shot was knida neat - even though she's not in focus.. And here's what happens when you're not ready but she wants to land anyway...lol... Maybe we'll loose some snowpack this week and get into some better rabbit hunting.. Until next time - take good care Dave

Nice shots Matt - that POSTED sign makes me dizzy...

Took my camera out hunting with my sponsor and his redtail. Had quite a few slips that day and she had some great flights after some rabbits. Pulled hair on a few but never connected. Of course I missed the real good action shots - I was always in the middle of the brush at the time she chased em. A couple shots of my hawk back at my house.. And a shot of me and Roxie with my rigged up helmet cam..One of these days I'll get some good footage of her catching one.. Take care Dave

It's been a long time since I had my camera out so I thought I'd go looking for the eagles yesterday. Got a couple closeups of a juvie and one mature one across the river. Seen a bunch of headless ducks too... A couple redtails out hunting as well.. And a couple deer looks like they just got dunked in the river. The one on the left look like it may have cut itself on the ice with the blood underneath it. And on the way back home came across this not so lucky turkey, not sure if she was hit in the road and then got tangled up in the barb wire or what. Maybe the eagles will be feasting on her tomorrow.. Take care Dave

Nice shot Matt. I really like your Pbase site too - looking pretty good..

Took a ride by the river looking for eagles the other day and had this guy peeking out at me from a hollow tree. Never did see an eagle but did see a redtail that whacked a crow and start eating it. Also took my hawk out hunting yesterday - got one clip of her chasing a wabbit. Not the best vid and the little rascal got to brush before she could grab him. She had quite a few good flights after them yesterday and got fur on one but we came home empty handed. I need to get a t perch for her for because there's not very many tall trees she can perch in in this multi floral rose field. She has way more acceleration when she starts higher up. Take care Dave

It was way too windy to take my hawk out hunting today, so me and the pup took a ride with the camera to see if any critters were out. One nice Rough Legged hawk was nice enough to do a flyby for my camera. That was the only critter worth getting pics of today.. will be hunting tomorrow with my sponsor so hope to get some good hawk shots then. Take care Dave

Thanks again guys, they will live for over 20 years in the wild. I'll be letting her go in the springtime after hunting season is over. I could keep her and hunt her next year but it will be just as easy to trap and train a new one next fall. That way I won't have to take care of her all summer , or have someone else care for her if I go on vacation. It doesn't take too long to train one so that's my plan. plus each one has their own personality, it'll be great experience manning a new bird each year. Take care Dave

Thanks a lot guys - we're going to go back after them in the morning. Hopefully get some video of the action.

He's a good looking pup.

Took Roxie my Redtail out and busted some brush after I got home from work this morning. Took my lab ,my buddy and his beagle. Roxie is starting to get the game down pretty good, she knows when that beagle is sounding off , good things are about to happen. It's pretty amazing how quick they learn, this was only the second time I hunted her with the beagle and she worked with him just great. Had 4 slips before she finally connected with this one. This is only our second rabbit so I let her crop right up. No pics of the beagle - he wanted to keep on hunting while Roxie was eating. My lab Dobie was good enough to pose for a few shots.. I took some video with my helmet cam but it didn't turn out to great. Maybe next time. Take care

Thanks guys - I'm not sure if she fell down and it was mud or what. She didn't seem to be hurt at all. There is a steep bank where they cross the road - I thought maybe she took a digger there..

Since I started training and hunting with my hawk, I haven't even been out with the camera much at all. I'm going to try and get out more here in the near future. Anyway here's a few from the past month or so. Looks like this girl got a little road rash... Caught this banded baldy eating a roadkill rabbit - she didn't hang out to long.. And lastly a little clip of some training free flights with the redtail.. I just started hunting her with my buddies Beagle - hopefully now I'll be able to get some good footage of her after the bunnies... Hope everyone has a great new year. Take care Dave

Mine right now is of my Redtail Roxie on one of her creance flights..
-
Great pics Mike and Merry Christmas to you as well.

I'm digging that first one Matt. Great shot.

Wooly you dawg!!! Way to go man, what a great NY buck, congrats- you deserve that one.

to get Roxie my Redtail to start flying to my fist outside, It's amazing how quick they tame down after being caught from the wild.. In case some didn't see my first post - here she was on day one fresh out of the bownet.. all kinds of ticked off ... Add two weeks of manning and she's like whole different bird.. Now I'm concentrating on training her with the lure - once she has that down good, we should be ready for free flight and hunting rabbits by early next week if all goes well. I'll be sure to keep you all posted of our adventures. Take care Dave
