Got this call done today. It is cocobolo, with a bronze glass surface and a purpleheart soundboard, my favorite combo to date. Sounds awesome. High pitched front end that rolls over into some sassy rasp, can turn into a boss hen as well. The cutts pop hard with attitude, and with more pressure they really rock. Soft clucks and chattery purrs as well. Fighting purr is great too. Kee kees pretty well. Matched with a bocote striker. The cocobolo has a few very thin hairline checks in the side, which have been coated with CA glue. You can barely see them and you cannot feel them, they wont move. They add a very neat orange streaking to the call. Call is finished and sealed with CA glue and several coats of Deft. Sealed inside as well to prevent warping. This stuff is beautiful! Headed to the classifieds. In this pic you can barely see the hairline cracks. All they are in the pic are thin black lines with orange streaks surrounding them, on the right side.. Beautiful!

Andy makes a real good call for sure! I make my own as well. This spring i will be taking a slate, glass, and aluminum of my own, a blackfalcon longbox, SS short box, a sanitorium trumpet, but my real favorite is definitely a good pot call..

Roost at Night or Locate in Morning?
longbeardfever4ever replied to Outdoorzman's topic in Turkey Hunting
Relatively new to turkey hunting, this will be my third year.. I hadnt heard any sound off in the evening before last spring. It got hot out (90 degrees) and they were gobbling hard in the evenings. Lasted about a week. Went out one day and heard one gobble back at a pack of yotes.. What are the chances of getting one to gobble in the evening? Mike -
Awesome bird, congrats!! I think the record with beard length is 8 beards, you got a good one!!

H.S. Strut Black Magic Slate Call. Undertaker...
longbeardfever4ever replied to Hillbilly's topic in Turkey Hunting
Aluminum calls do sound really good normally. Also, if you spend a few extra bucks, you can get a custom aluminum call for around $40, american made, and you will be able to get so many different pitches out of it it will amaze you. I have owned both production and custom calls, i bet if you try a custom aluminum call it will amaze you! That black magic does sound like it will kill birds for sure! Congrats on a great season! This is a Figured bark pocket maple call with a walnut rim. It is black anodized aluminum over glass, and can hit the high notes with a great rasp rollover, its the best sounding call I have made yet. It will come with a customers choice bocote, jatoba, or rosewood striker, once ordered I will make the striker. $40 shipped to your door, comes with a personal note and conditioning material. I can sign, number, and date the call, and mark the woods and material used if you would like. Then it will be sealed with a thin wax finish over the ink. I have included a sound file (inside, its cold out there!) with a bocote striker. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zqozj2ehvjj In this last pic you can see the shape of the call.. I accept paypal or check/money order. Thank you! Mike -

what gun do you use on squirrels?
longbeardfever4ever replied to jesse8953's topic in Upland & Small Game
I like using a single shot 20 gauge or a pump 12, really dont like the scopes on .22's.. -
What kind of squirrels do you all hunt?
longbeardfever4ever replied to sluggunner's topic in Upland & Small Game
Mostly greys, but one part of our property we always have a family of blacks, my first squirrel was a blackie and he will always be remembered!! -
Domestic cats hunting small game.
longbeardfever4ever replied to sluggunner's topic in Upland & Small Game
Ive got an outdoors cat, and if it kills something like a chipmunk, it eats it, but it only hunts at night and we live on private property so no big deal. That much to say, i would not be happy if i saw a cat walk by me when i was hunting public land, if i didnt see a collar, it would be brainless... -
All of these are in great shape... The expandable foam ones have durable plastic clips and the wooden ones have wooden clips. The clips are in great shape as well... Asking $15 for the 5 expandables, i will throw in the 9 wooden ones and the drawstring bag (no holes!) for a total of $25.. Buyer pays for Shipping.... I just layed these on the ground, not actually set up... When you set them up they look pretty good though... The wooden ones are not 3-D if you are asking... Thanks! Mike

longbeardfever4ever replied to Team Realtree's topic in Bowhunting
Same for me.. I hunter specialties scent control spray and last year it seemed to work quite well.. We will see this year, especially during archery when it is quite warm.. -
Id use it to help buy a .50 BMG and use up my bank account to fill out the rest of it and some ammo, and maybe a few metal plates..
