  1. im going out tonight and sitting in my truck with a spotting scope and video camera to see more than what has been walking by my cameras. i will let everyone know what i come up with.
  2. there is such a fine line between too early and too late up here where i am. i hate to get in there to early, because i have a whole bunch of deer wintering in our section this year and dont want them to feel any pressure due to early searching and winter else where. also if your in there too early you are going to cause the deer to most likely bust out across an open field and possibly jar them off and personally i dont spend a lot of time looking in the open fields, so therefore i would take a chance of not finding some antlers. on the other side of the coin, if you start too late 2 things can happen. one, those dang tree rats get to them b4 you do and chew em up real bad. and 2nd, other shed hunters could get in there and get your sheds b4 you do. so thats why i have all 5 trail cams out and once i start seeing a majority of bucks that have dropped one or both sides i will make that call when to get in there and do some searching. trail cameras are an awesome tool in aiding in this decision. good luck and i hope this bit of information may help y'all in getting some bone this winter! :bang:
  3. already? wow! i cant believe u r finding bone like that this early. i guess i need to get out there and start doing some seaching. i have a lot of deer wintering on my property and surrounding ones as well this winter.
  4. i personally havent even looked for sheds yet, but a guy i know has found 5 already. we were out runnin coyote dogs last saturday and he found another one. it was just a 1.5yr old but still a fresh one at that. another guy we were with found a real nice 10 point side in an open field, but it was from last season. nontheless they are dropping and to me it seems pretty early too. i am still getting quite a few trail cam pics and videos of bucks with both sides still. i am gunna go out tomorrow evening and sit in my truck and see what comes out of the woodwork to feed. we are getting some cold weather again so they should be on the move. good luck fellas!the pics are from just last week.
  5. I am hoping that someone here can help me out with this. I have tried to find a record book or a pope & young entries site for missouri and other surrounding states, but have not had a ny success. I would really appreciate any help you guys could give me on this subject. Thanks!
  6. I am taking a shot in the dark here, but I figured it would be worth a try. A buddy of mine and me are trying to plan a bow hunt for next year and I wanted to see if there were any opportunities out in Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Nebraska, or any other state that would have some good bowhunting. We would be willing to pay some money as a trespass fee to hunt someone’s ground. If you know or may even have ground that would be available for hunting next year, please let me know. I would appreciate any leads that you may have.
  7. First of all y'all need to understand that i still have 600 acres of corn up around me, so this is the biggest deer i have seen all season. The quest for this buck started in early nov. When a buddy and i set out to try and capture a big buck kill on camera. At about 9:15am this big ol' guy came cruisin through the woods and hung up at around 45 yards. Granted i can make that shot all day, i figured he would keep on coming past the tree at 15 yards. That wasnt the case, he milled around up on the ridge for about 10 minutes then came back the way he came from. Bummer! Then i had another encounter with him on november 12th. It was getting dark and he finally closed the distance to 25yards. But when he was at that range he was locked in on us and i could not draw. I got my light turned on my pins as he looked away. He starts walking and the only spot he stops has limbs between him and i. Too dark and another chance gone. Still hunting for this deer, now with my tc omega in hand, i am ready to put him down. As i was walking out saturday morning i stopped to check my trailcam. There he was up close. He had broken off a g2, g3, and a g4. This really sucks because i now will not shoot him. I hope he can lay low through the rest of the season so i can get an opportunity at him next year. He was a 14 point that had split brows on both sides, a 3rd main beam, and an awesome drop tine.
  8. november 4th! i had a buddy call me tuesday and wanted to film me on wednesday. i agreed and while i was in my stand tuesday evening he was driving around our section at primetime and got some footage of a bruiser 150"+ 10 point just across the road from our property. wednesday morning roles around and were sitting there wondering why the action is slow, when i get the infamous tap on the shoulder. he says big buck coming in. i ease around and get ready as my eyes focus in on him! holy crap he has a drop tine i whisper to him. long story short he sniffs around up on the ridge for a half hour at 50 yds. he finally works in to a shooting lane and i give him a grunt to stop and he wouldnt stop. long story short i didnt get a shot. this deer is the most narly buck i have ever seen. his left side is a perfect 10 point side with long tines and a split brow tine. on the other side he is an 8 point side with shorter tines. now for the character. he has a 3rd main beam that is 8"long, a split brow that is really bladed, and a 8-10" droptine that comes out of the base and splits at the end. from the video he looks to be a at least a 13 point. there is still alot of corn still up so i would really like to see whats living in there b4 i go punching my tag anyway. even though this deer would gross close to 150" i know there are bigger ones out there.
  9. you know the weird thing is that he shoots all the time and he is a great shot. him and i shoot together quite often and he shoots as good or sometimes better than i do. i just dont get it. people always ask me why i have a 60 yard pin and i reply with "why not"? reason being i practice a whole lot more at 50 and 60 and i am confident with it. reason i say that, is my cousin is usually standing there shooting right with me.
  10. To make a long story short, my cousin went out tuesday morning and shot a really nice buck. After trailing it for several hours they lost him. He was really bummed out that evening and he asked me what he should do? The nice cousin that i am i tell him to go hunt my stand on the foodplot and then slide back in to my ridgeline stand later in the morning. So he does. I get a text from him right after daylight saying" i just killed a monster"! I was excited for him. He told me what buck it was and then i was even more excited for him. Basically same situation as the morning before. He never found the buck. Here is the trail camera picture of the deer. My question to y'all is how would you feel about the situation. To be honest i am pretty pissed about it. This was a deer that i wanted someone in our family to kill not shoot and loose it.
  11. Saturday morning i saw some bucks out cruising for does. Same thing sunday morning. I actually passed up some great bucks this weekend. Last night i went to a different farm and the bucks were dogging the does hard over there! In my opinion i think it has started and will only get better from now on out! Good luck fellas!
  12. r u serious? that droptine is awesome! the only thing i dont like about it is the droptine doesnt have a match. that would just be the cats a**!
  13. I got this picture from a friend of mine who is friends with the guy who shot it. This guy lives in angola, indiana. He shot the buck in hancock or schuyler county in illinois. The reported gross green score is 210". I will post more pictures when i get them. The kid in the picture isnt the one who shot it.
  14. no luck. well got in the stand last evening around 3:45. i waited til about 5:00 before i tried anything. first i did the can and grunt sequence, then followed up with a moderate rattling sequence. nothing. i tried it again just a little before dark and still nothing. i think where i am at this particular farm its too early yet. my cousin was hunting last night 2 miles away and had bucks running does hard all evening he said. im still working on thinning out the doe herd out here. when we first bought this 150 acres the b to d ratio was like 15 to 1. after 3 years of killing about 20 does each year it is finally getting close. probably more like 5 or 6 to 1 now. by the way i didnt shoot all 20 does myself. there was help from several others.
  15. It was a year ago on the first of november when i was blind grunting and the can in a sequence when i got a shot at the booner. He came into 40 yards and statrted to walk away when i hit him with a few snort wheezes and he came in to 15 yards. Hit him in the shoulder blade and lost him. Im still not over it. Im thinking i am gunna throw everything but the kitchen sink at them this evening. Im sitting along a creek with beans in front, corn to my back, and the woods to my right. Same setup where i had a 135" 10point at 14 yards 1.5 weeks ago. Elected to pass as i expect there to be bigger bucks out there this year.
  16. I am heading out to hunt this evening here in northern indiana. Anyone in INDIANA OR the surrounding states having any luck rattling yet? What do you think, should i give it a go and hope it doesnt spook them or what. I think if i do a moderate sequence it should be fine. I will take any advice in to consideration while on stand.
  17. more transition pics!!i had several pics of this guy during mid summer, then he vanished. it was weird because just the other morning i was talking to my dad about getting pics of him hard horned and i go check my camera and wala there he is. he is a very neat deer for these parts. the rut is near fellas! whack em' and stack em'!
  18. Enough about all the leasing stuff.I started this thread to give us hoosiers a place to post their sucesses. Not wine about how indiana is going to be all bought up by outfitters. On a different note attached is a buck that i have transitions of his growth over the season. Good luck hunters!! The rut is near!!
  19. nope we own our own property. wont have to worry about leasing here. i started this post because i like to see what other fellow hoosiers are coming up with, that is all.
  20. soooooo no big bucks in indiana huh?this one was killed in kosciusko co. in northern in. this past weekend. grosses in the 190's!! what a monster!!
  21. He will gross low 180's net low 170's! heck of a buck and i hope you get him so we can all find out the real score.
