  1. Don't waste your hard-earned money on LaCrosse..I recently bought a new pair of their Alpha II 3.5 18" boots in Realtree AP HD..LaCrosse advertises how well these boots "breathe"..ha! What a joke that is...even in mild conditions your socks get soaked from sweat..plus I was out turkey hunting early this Fall and snagged them on a piece of barbed-wire I did not see laying in my path..you guessed it!!..The barbed-wire tore a huge hole in the boot about 4" up from the soles..There goes the water-proofing!!! Hopefully a tire patch will fix them..Sure LaCrosse boots look really nice but they will not hold up..I have not even worn them 30 days yet....I would invest in some good 'ol leather/Gore-Tex boots if I were you.
  2. Yeah, I hear ya..we have the same problem over here in Iowa as well..some game officers work 2 or 3 counties..not nearly enough officers out and about for the number of hunters we see around here..I hunt a 200 acre farm my family owns and no one has permission to be on it...while fall turkey hunting I stumble upon a treestand and ladder..it's in my shed at home now..anyone interested??
  3. This is the first Fall turkey season I have hunted here in west-central Iowa..I took a bird the afternoon of 11/1. A friend of mine and located a bachelor group of jakes and got as close as we could and scattered them. We then sat down in some cover and made a few yelps with a mouth call and waited..did not take long and one of the jakes came rushing in to the call. I put a clean kill on him at less than 10 yards. I have since purchased a 2nd tag and have seen alot of birds but they have been busting me on my way into the woods. This morning was cool and rainy here and I sat down and tried calling one in..I actually had a tom gobble back to me multiple times but he was heading the opposite direction so had no shot. Gonna hit it hard tomorrow in the cold, wind and flurries and see what I can come up with. Best of luck to you.
  4. Awesome!! That's what it's all about!!
  5. Weber makes a pretty damn good product called the Smokey Mountain Cooker..you can pick one up for as little as $299/$399..here is the best website for tips/recipes on using it: http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/ Currently, I use a Char-Broil Silver Smoker..bought it at Home Depot for $170..I am pleased with the food it has turned out but the product itself is poorly constructed..have cooked with it one full summer and most of this fall. Paint is beginning to chip off on the inside of it and alot of rust on the outside although I keep it in a dry shed when not in use. I smoked my fall wild turkey on it last Sunday..used Mesquite chunks..turned out excellent!! Good luck to ya!
  6. Husker fan here!! Ganz has done a fine job this season..too bad the defense can't help him win more games!! Go Big Red!
  7. Sounds like a damn pretty parcel of land...don't forget to locate the water/food source these deer are using. Find the food and you will be on that big boy in no time!! Good luck!
  8. I just bought a Benelli SuperNova 26" 12 ga. for $492. It's dipped in APG HD and so far I love it...put a turkey to rest with it last Saturday.
