  1. What's every have for nicknames for squirrels? I've usually heard tree rat and bushy tail. Anybody else got any goods ones?
  2. OK...I'd like to hear from everybody out there. I posted this question on a different forum a while back, and got some interesting responses, so just wondering what people here will say. In one word or phrase, "What trait do you have, or what do you do especially well, that you think helps you the most in bagging birds. I'll start it out. Patience!!!
  3. I have never known it as a hat. Only the sled. Those are stocking caps.
  4. I have read a few articles in past that poodles are excellent retrievers. Not sure about the water temperature issues though.
  5. It is kind of interesting how he put his opinions on this thread, and now hasn't been back to defend his opinions.
  6. I grew up in Wisconsin and love the Packers.......but this is ridiculous if you ask me. Maybe the fans should just leave an hour earlier for the games to handle slower traffic because of construction.
  7. I've seen on a couple other sites as well that they are drawn....they just aren't posted yet. And, I've also seen that there are A LOT of extra permits this year.....so I wouldn't worry too much yet.
  8. I've got an old 22/.410 over and under that I usually use for squirrels. Gives me a lot of flexibility.
  9. I'm using the patch and wellbutrin. Seems to be helping. Atleast better than when I've tried to quit before.
  10. Actually using it right now. I use it probably half the time. A little more all the time.
  11. Congrats on quitting Shaun. I'm doing the same thing right now too. Had my last cigarette on Tuesday. So far....so good. My doctor said days 3 and 4 are usually the hardest. So, hang in there....and keep it up.
  12. Everybody has their favorite call and their favorite kinds of calls, but you need to remember that it's all about what's relevant to you. Myself, I prefer pot calls, and mouth calls, but carry a box call as well. I also know guys who can't use a mouth call, and other guys who use a box call because that's what they feel comfortable with. I've known guys who have had very expensive calls and still could not call very well, and other guys who had cheap calls, and were excellent callers. So, I guess what I'm saying is to remember to take everybody's suggestions on this one with a grain of salt. The suggestions on here should give you a good place to start looking, but make sure you are comfortable with the call(s) you end up using. Because if you're not comfortable with your calls, you'll probably never be as good of a caller as you want to be.
  13. I'm sure there are probably some places will have some pretty harsh winter kills, but think overall the population will be fine. I know around here, we've got areas with 10' drifts or better, which are now covered in a crust because of the freezing rain since the last snow storm. But...we've also got spots just a mile down the road that the cut corn stalks are still sticking out of the snow. So, they may have to adjust their locations....but I think they'll be just fine.
  14. I'm ready too. Think I'm going to get my vest out this weekend and go through it and make sure everything is ready. And then let it sit for a couple months....and then go through it again right before season starts.....because by then, I'll think of something I forgot.
  15. I actually don't have a subscription, but I usually pick up the new ones from the store when they come out. Suppose I should subscribe since it's cheaper.
  16. Also...be very aware of your movement in the field. Ducks and geese can pick out movement just as easily as turkeys, especially if they see something they're not sure of. Have fun!! And welcome to the wonderfully addictive world of waterfowling.
  17. I usually use a .22, but will on occasion take out my Dad's old .22 mag/410 over and under.
  18. Sounds like you're doing a good job Fly. Keep it up.
  19. I got that one in my e-mail earlier today, and forwarded it onto family and friends. Probably wouldn't be nearly as funny if I didn't have a little girl that loves Pooh.

    Swine Flu

We had a couple schools close around us in Northeast Nebraska today. But, I'm not really worried about it myself. I'm in good health, so should be able to fight it off without any problems. Only concern would be if my daughter got it. So watching her closely. Luckily, it's not in our school yet, but I'm sure it will be soon.
