Re: My earlier postI just got back from the range after shooting the Hornady HP/XTP's. As I figured, it used the same load as the XTP/MAG's I have been shooting. With 110 grains of Pyrodex RS, the HP/XTP's grouped at .75", much better than the MAG's. I shoot a T/C Omega Z5. T/C's are known for tight bores and mine is no exception. I had to go with the HPH 3-Petal sabots for a correct fit but boy does it shoot! Another bonus is that the HP/XTP's are designed to work best at lower velocities so the combination of a 110-grain load and an HP bullet is damn near perfect.

Favorite bullet Hornady XTP/MAG if shooting max loads (150 grains). If not (something around 110-120 grains), use the Hornady HP/XTP. I shoot a T/C that has a tight bore and use the HPH 3-Petal sabot but just use the sabot that fits your bore best.

I have a .54 T/C Grey Hawk percussion and recently bought a T/C Omega Z5 in-line. T/C makes excellent products and gives a lifetime warranty. Personally, I wouldn't own anything but a T/C. For the money, you just can't beat them. The Z5 is a great low-end rifle that has all the quality you need. Other models offer different features (like a break-action) so just pick the one you like and can afford. My first time at the range with the Z5 gave a five-shot group (in four holes...all touching) that measured 1 1/8". With a little tweaking, I should be able to get that below an inch. That group was shot with 110 grains of Pyrodex RS and a Hornady 45 caliber (.452) XTP/MAG bullet in a HPH 3-Petal sabot. If this powder load winds up to be my most accurate load, I'll switch to the HP/XTP bullet which has a thinner jacket and opens better at slightly lower velocities.
