Got that right brother.... But you havent lived till you've taken a big ol fat doe and TRENCHED it with a 180 SST out of a 300 Win Mag.. I hit that thing 2 years back around 250 yards and must have pushed the thing 6 feet to the side on the flat area of the hill before she fell...

I have 7 big game rifles.... each serves it's own purpose.. If I feel Like trenching a Mulie, it's 7 RUM or 300 Win time, maybe one of my 280s Rems... If I feel like whitetails or speed goats it's the 257 Roy.... and my 280 Rems. If Im in riverbottoms or realy rough badlands terrain, out comes the 35 Whelen.... Im pushin 220 Speer HCFNs to 2700fps in that bad boy.

570+ Yards, Whitetail Doe (I say + because my gps didn't fully sync until a handful of steps after I started walkin)- That was done with a 270WSM, 130 Ballistic Tip doing 3450 at the muzzle. 370 paces(my paces; I didn't have a gps at the time) Prairie Dog- 223 Rem Took two shots, even though I have tactical scope on that weapon, I ran "Kentucky Windage" rather than mess with the turrets...hehe 480 Yards- Jackrabbit- 243 Winchester 95 CT doing 3150(a LOT of 7828 and a LONG barrel) Taken with the rifle resting on my truck hood... motor still running...lol

Amen to that, Doc.... Where I hunt ( from Belfield,ND south and west to the Montana line, long shots are the norm... I RARELY get a chance to shoot under 250 yards, and on average Id say the majority ofmy shots are around 350-480yards. I use a 280 Rem ( Im comfortable with that to around 440), a 7 RUM ( at LEAST 550-650yards)... and I also have a 300 win that I run 150 Gmxs in.... I do have the everday weaponry when I hunt riverbottoms though... a 35 Whelen ( loaded with 220HCFNs to 2700fps) and a 45/70 barrel strapped to a siamese mauser action... 400 grain flat nose... ( dont recall the exact fps, but I am running #1 pressure ranges)

Sounds like you could play with the wireless "channels".. but since all your other devices function, Id suggest just getting a better wifi device for the desktop. the new usb cards are pretty decent... fighting driver issues is simply not worth it. Just buy a new one and save the headache.

All TCs are capable of take 150 grain "magnum" charges these days... My 209x50 encore (IF I do my part, holds about 1.5-2in @ 100 yards) which obviously is more than enough for 1-200 yard kills. I've been looking at TCs Triumph as a second MZ, just because I want to fit one with a magnified optic... and leave my Encore blade sights only. CVA, IMO is good equipment, but you also have to remember that you get what you pay for. Pickup a Omega Z5 kit, or a Triumph, Hodgdon 777 FF grade, some Powerbelts 250-295 grain, or some Hornady SST 300 grain sabots.... Also, DON'T get into this "you need a special primer" nonsense. You don't. Blackpowder is so volitle, a cigarette lighter or a magnifiying glass will do the same dang job. Just pickup a case of 209as, CCIs work great.... more or less because they have a little polymer(or whatever it is) cap over the primer.. supposedly helps prevent any water from getting into the priming compound.

Amen to that! I have a 2506 with a Fullfield II on it, running I4831 and 100 grain ballistic tips.... does about 3300fps, and holds about .5 moa rain, shine,snow... I think someone just needs to get a good rest and learn trigger control.

For antelope, stick with your "speed" rounds 2506 with 87s or 100s (87s are borderline on SD) 257 Roy- 100s,110s, or 115s--- My roy is winding the 110s around 3500 if I remember correctly. Regardless--- the round you use should NOT be a crutch for the shooters inability to work with his/her enviromental conditions. I've made kill shots on goats WAY past the 1/4 mile marker and creeping on 550yards---but the conditions were just right and I was at a 100%.... does that make it right? Thats always a variable. For me the closer you can get in a stalk--the better....but when they break- it's time to lay down the law.

Id leave the stock alone, just do a few nice coats of oil on it... and let it be. ** If you DO want to change it up a bit, or flustered with it, order a stock from Boyds in Mitchell, SD. I did that with a model 700 Mountain LSS that I have... bought a fully finished stock for 92$ plus shipping. The thing shoots great yet, and to say that it looks great is an understatement.... Koz

Remington 700 ADL 243 Winchester, with a 3x9 Bushnell and Weaver rings.... shot the SNOT out of it. The rifle was pretty much shot when I got ahold of it... but the little bugger still helped me learn plenty about shooting. It was my fathers idea to get rid of it-- and that turned into a Ruger M77 MK-II 6mm Rem.... and that as well has gone down the road. Sadly, Im a gun turner... when I feel the time is right, I say goodbye to the rifle... and go on about my way.

Id LOVE to have a Model 7 in 300 WSM, but I think my next few purchases will be a 700 and maybe another Ruger #1 ( I used to have two of them) A 700 BDL in 7 Mag The #1 will be in 300 Win Mag. Not going to buy stainless for the ext few rifles. I love blued as much as stainless.... but nothing can beat a clean, classic "old school" look.

Yeah, it's truly a difficult task to try and narrow a favorite down. I guess... IF I had to pare it down to JUST one rifle... It would be my Remington 700 Mountain LSS in 280 Rem. Strapped with leupold rings, and a Zeiss Conquest 3.5x10x44. She eats 140 cts like shes going outta style.

I've got a Conquest 3.5x10x44 on my Mountain LSS in 280 Rem. Best scope choice I ever made for that rifle. I agree as well... Zeiss is a company that should be bullet proof in product satisfaction.. I doubt youll have any hangups replacing that.

Ive been using the ol Encore 209x50 stainless. 120 grains of FF grade 777. (FFF is made for pistol use--- BUT you CAN use it in the rifle, it will burn cleaner. Just limit your charge to 100 or 120grains.) I either use powerbelt 295s or Hornady SST 300 grain sabots- usually the Hornadys for the first shot, and the powerbelts for secondary shots, as they are easier to run down the pipe in the heat of the moment. For primers--- I don't listen to the hype. YOU DO NOT need a special 209 primer. Black powder and subsitutes are VERY easy to ignite... simply don't require anything more than your standard run of the mill cci 209M. For cleaning/storage, TC makes a bore butter that is phenominal... and they also make a few cleaning solvents. DO NOT USE petroleum based cleaners or oil in the bore- unless you want to store for a LONG time. Oil destroys the blackpowder and it will make it VERY difficult to ignite.

I WAS going to buy one... But I already have an odd ball....a 35 Whelen. Granted, I LOVE projectile horsepower as much as anyone else here.... but the 375 H&H does just as well, and is already well established. **Acquiring brass for all the ruger chambering is a hard thing to do... as well as good loading data for all suitable powders. They created a duplicate of a cartridge thats as old as the memory of cordite. I would get the cartridge myself...but I would rather just buy the original, and not have to worry about finding this or that.

"Some" Savage rifles take a bit of a break in before they start shooting well. Heck, every rifle I own I run a long string thru them one time... cook the barrel a bit- just to destress the metal. Seems to work fine. Yeah... that rifle looks like some serious work/time was put into it. She'll do you well. just going to take some tlc to get there. :pullup:

Do you handload for it? If so, give RL10X or RL15 a try... Ive had real decent luck those powders and the 08/06 based casings..

Speaking of which, last weekend... I shot my 257 Weatherby for the first time... she does about .35moa @ 100yards with a 115CT and RL22. What a sweet weapon to shoot.... doing 3230 with her right now... the SD and ES are extremely low.

The "quarter-bores" have always been,in my eyes... a "black sheep" in American hunting culture. They do the job, and do it extremely well. a 120gr pill doing 2750-2850 out of a roberts is NOTHING to scoff at. I have a 2506 and a 257 roy in quarter bores... I still have yet to hit up the range with the latter. If you handload... the roberts, for the majority of deer hunting/goat hunting- is hard to beat.
