I was wondering if you guys have seen any rut activity yet I hunted this evening (Friday) and had a doe coming in and was about to arrow her when I heard grunting. Small 8 was behind her grunting every step, she squatted and took a leak and bounced out of the area he went nose to ground at the spot and went the opposite way. I live in eastern Ohio. Hope this helps -
best bow on market The best bow on the market depends on the guy looking. If you like a heavy bow, then the carbon lines won't be on your list. Some guys like a fast bow while others like a bow that might shoot slower but is 3 times quieter. Shoot as many as you can and you will find the best bow.

Hey scott I was always taught of you want something you have to work for it... I'm tired of working knowing people are choosing to mooch off my paycheck and get all theirs for free. Just my 2 cents

of course you would Todd....

You southern boys sure don't gut em... I was down south for 9 years and when my buddy seen me field dressing a doe I shot he thought I was crazy. He's been hunting 20 years and never gutted a deer a day in his life

First bow kill ever and Question Congrats man. I've never had a problem with a gut like scaring deer off, and because I love shooting coyotes almost as much as I love hunting deer I put all the gut piled I can in the same spot and shoot yotes when they come in.

You hit the nail on the head buddy

Wear a harness when in the tree Thanks fellas

Wear a harness when in the tree UPDATE: Buddy's back is broke and it's still to swollen to operate on. I was told he won't be walking for 4-5 months. Had a harness on but it snapped.

this guy.... Best deer hunter I ever knew wore wool pants, work boots, flannel shirt, and the same leather gloves he chopped fire wood with. Killed his limit every year and one was always the monster of the hill. His secret. Spend time in the woods watching and listening. We have cameras to do our work for us mostly but this old fart could tell you where a deer was laying and be almost dead on plus or minus a tree. Oh and he always used an old single shot smooth bore shotgun.... That guy

Wear a harness when in the tree Thanks everyone, I still haven't heard anything. I sent a Facebook message to his sister but still haven't heard from them.

Got a text while on stand tonight that a friend of mine fell out of his treestand last night and had to be choppers to a Pittsburgh PA hospital. What I was told was he was in surgery for 6 hours and is still in bad shape. I've never known him to be careless and not wear his harness... I know I have been guilty of checking my harness prior to season and checking my stand after I hung it and not checkin them again. Do yourselves a favor and take the extra 5 min for a safety check. When I know more I will post it. Everyone is kinda tight lipped at the moment

Team 5 - Damage Inc. It's so hard to be holding out for the big guy. Had a really nice 8 at 15 yards but I know he's young and will be worthy of an arrow next fall.

Help You can ask 10 people what they would do and you'd prolly get about 10 different answers! Right now deer are starting to split out of their bachelor groups and are startin to prepare for the few weeks of non stop action. Yes now is a good time to be in the woods and it's an awesome time to start working the deer. Here I've noticed the bucks are starting to work the does a little more as far as checking them... Non are in estrous at the moment but I would bet my bow that by the weekend and the deep cold we are fixing to get there will be some serious activity going. That's when I will really rip the rattling horns together and start stinking the woods up with some estrous. Now is also a GREAT time for all day sits if you can manage them.... Even if you get down and still hunt slowly to another stand. Rattling is my favorite thing to do, but you have to be patient and you have to have an idea of how a fight sequence usually starts with deer. Mimic that as closely to a dee as you can and you will see more reaction. 99% of bucks will circle downwind so I like to set up so that bucks either can't circle or will expose themselves in open woods when they do. If you have a set up like that and prevent them circling be ready for deer to come in very very cautiously and searching hard for another deer and they will bolt quick fast and in a hurry if they pick you off. I like to be in thick cover or have a decoy to give them something to look at. You rattle in wide open woods a deer don't have to come to you to see what's going on. Aggressive grunts can be a good thing at this point of the game. Deer are starting to establish the breeding hierarchy and when an intruder enters with attitude.... Antlers are gonna be swinging. If you can really work a deer with all his senses, you can't go wrong.

I love my 308. Remington 700 .38 WIN with a varmint barrel.... I use it for just about anything I can kill with it legally here in Ohio. I used to shoot a lot of 308s in the service and would recommend the cartridge to anyone who asks. With some target time and a fundamental idea of ballistics it can be a damaging downrange round.

Something that gets in my nerves I made the mistake one time and only one time of letting who I thought was a good friend who talked a good game about how well he hunted and how he was a good shot etc, hunt in one of my best areas. I had told him a really good shooter buck liked to walk this bench and check the creek bottom below... Sit tight and you should see him 30-45min before dark. He met me at the truck mad that he didn't see a deer and blamed me for ruining a day of hunting for him. Next day I was checking a camera and found an empty bottle of soda, 3 candy bar wrappers and a half eaten sandwich on the ground by his stand. He blamed me!!!!???? I know it's a bit different than what your going thru 97 BUT..... It's a valuable lesson for you as you get older and have more options in the future.
