Very true. Happened to me last year. Spooked a group of does twice. They ended up spending most of their time around that stand and bedding within 100 yards of it. Just to watch for me entering.

Stolen trail cam.... That's low. I walked in at 2 to my best stand, that is situated along a water gap that creates a funnel. On the far side is a ridge with 3 houses on it about 200-400yards away. I get to my stand and somebody stole the straps off it. Who does that? Did they think I wouldn't notice and try to climb up it? Oh well. Now I'm pissed. Sitting on a log.

could use some help! I haven't used any doe bleats yet, but I rattled in a little 5 pt yesterday morning and got him acting tough. He rubbed and scraped on everything within reach for 100 yards. Was skunked in the same stand for the afternoon. Did talk to neighbor and he watched 3 big bucks in his pasture fight for over 10minutes. He said they ended up attracting what he called "A GD Giant" when he walked out. The other 3 took off. I was disappointed in my sit and left maybe 5 minutes early and ended up seeing a 140-145" cruising a fence line between some thick timber and the Mennonites milo field. It's a brisk 29 this morning. About to get ready and head back out. Taking the decoy with me this morning. I'll be rattling and grunting most of the time.

Too windy...Too warm Wind chill of 29 degrees. Stiff north wind. Cloudy. This morning, only saw 2 deer. One 5pt and a little doe. The buck was pushing the doe all over the place. I'm guessing she wasn't quite ready because he lost interest and worked the timber edge and made rubs and scrapes the whole way. Came to 15 yards. Besides the wind, this morning was perfect.

EHD in NE Nebraska Here in Missouri we have lost a lot of deer due to the drought. All over. We have not personally found any on our property but several others have. Also in north central Missouri the CWD, I believe, has been contained in a 3-4 county zone. Originating from a deer farm. From what I hear EHD should NOT spread anymore with a hard freeze or two. Hopefully it is not as bad as predicted.

Household energy $avings. Wood stoves are a good option if you can take the brunt of the initial cost. Another great option is a dual fuel heating system. Electric/gas furnace(90+ percent) with a heat pump(16 SEER). A heat pump is an air conditioner that the compressor has a reversing valve to reverse flow of refrigerant to turn condenser(outside coil) into a evaporator and vise versa. Very very efficient and saves a lot of utilities. It is a top seller for my dads hvac company. Also, a zoning system with an adequate amount of thermostats is also a HUGE energy saver. We installed a system with zoning like I just mentioned in our house. We cut utilities 75%. On top of EPA and government rebates. This is a great choice. From a heating and cooling standpoint. A fireplace is an added bonus that we rarely use unless its way way below freezing or without power, like we were during the ice storm a few years back.

Knives An interchangeable blade Kershaw. Gut hook. Filet knife and a bone saw. Actually have two of them. Their decent knives. Not the best. But they hold an edge for a really long time. Good enough for me.

ready for the weekend. I'll be in stand Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Should be a great hunt.

Well weather man is calling for a big cold front to push through tomorrow night. Highs today will be in the mid 80s and for the weekend it won't break the mid 50s with lows in the low 30s. With the full moon coming in about a week. Hoping the big bucks will be inclined to move a little more during daylight hours. Good luck to all that go out this weekend.

anyone have any rattling tips Well don't hold me to that bringing bucks everytime. I've had the opportunity to hear bucks fight before and I always play it back in my head when I rattle. Usually from now till mid November you can always get something curious enough to come in. Doesn't always bring in a 160" but if you can entice him enough to check it out. Then he'll come on a string.

anyone have any rattling tips Depends. If I'm blind rattling, I'll rattle light for about 20seconds just to ensure I don't spook anything that's close that I didn't see. Then anywhere from 15-30 minutes later I will grunt and snort wheeze. Wait 2 minutes then start my sequence. I will rattle anywhere from 30seconds to a minute. With pauses and grunts mixed in. I usually wait 30-45minutes before I rattle again.

Am I stupid? Missed the one 10pt Saturday morning. Got skunked Saturday night and this morning. Sat in a very unlikely location in a patch of timber about 300yards x 75 yards. Edges were lined with scrapes. So I sat at the pinch point. I rattled at about 5:35pm and waited no less than 10minutes. Sat down. Saw something that didn't quite fit. I figured it was buck fever..then it moved. I saw bone and my heart started pounding. Turned out just to be a really odd fork that from the side looked like a shooter with a forked G2..lol. None the less, at least calling is picking up. That's my weekend in a nut shell.

Am I stupid? It's 77, cloudy and looking like rain from the stand here in SW Missouri. Blowing 10-15, gusts up to 20. Skunked this morning. Hoping for some redemption to save the weekend as the winds start to die down. Not long now.

trail cam issues. Both cameras trigger with me walking in front of them at about 10'. I left the working one where it was and moved the other closer to the trail I was wanting to watch. Will check cards next Friday.

Bucks getting fired up Had a lone 10pt. For sure shooter. Come by just at first light. Still dark enough to where I couldn't see my pins. Turned on pin light and drew. He was at what I guessed as 40. Later I ranged it was 48. I shot way low. He jumped the fence and went off down a ridge. He didn't seem to know what happened so I hope I didn't screw myself. But tonight I sat below the milo field. Hoping to catch a cruising buck working ditches before the rut heats up. Right about sunset. I noticed 3 deer at about 1000yards. Couldn't make out what they were. Just know one was big and two were smaller. My best guess is a buck and a doe and her fawn. That's all I saw today. Rubs are everywhere. Scrapes are also becoming prevalent. And they are all being continually worked.

Where are the deer? Well if y'all see a big 10. About 135-140". Put him down. I guessed 40. Ranged it after at 48. I'm sure ill never see him again. I had just got set up and sat down. He was at 70yards within 2 minutes of me being settled. It was barely 7:00am.

trail cam issues. It does not. I can set it off if I walk by it and see if it counts the picture or not. But no other way to test.

trail cam issues. Just got done checking cards. I have two IR videos. One of a doe walking head on to the camera. And one of a 110-115" 8 walking away right at first light. The other camera(the one that seems not to be working correctly) still has no IR pics or videos. Only TimeLapse. Will call Tech Support and see if they have a solution. And hopefully they speak English.

What does hunting mean to you? What does hunting mean to me? It means another season away from town, crazy people. It means ignoring the world. Sitting on the family farm. Reminiscing all the memories. Thinking about my fore fathers. Thinking about how they hunted. What they saw. What they did. Hunting is my life. It's what we do every fall. Never missed a season. I've spent every firearm season sitting next to a tree with my dad. That won't be this year due to him having spine surgery. I know he will text me every 5 minutes. What'd you see? Any deer? Is he dead yet? Where's my venison? Lol Sitting there in nature. Enjoying every thing. Relaxing more than non hunters can imagine. Walking those fields every weekend. Walking the same places my ancestors did. As well as the Sac Osage Indians. It's very spiritual. I look forward to it more than anything. Hunting is a way of life. I'm proud of how I was raised. I'm proud to be a hunter. I'm proud even when an arrow or shell isn't let loose. It means learning something new every year. It's what makes us predators. It's in our DNA.

Time Off! When to take it? From what I'm seeing the full moon will come October 29th. Weather regardless, I would think a doe or two should start their estrous cycle. Even a little bit of scent from a herd doe should send bucks into overdrive. The factory I work in is avoiding bankruptcy by taking Company Shut Down periods. So I will have off this next week of the 26th and I will most likely take the next week. And very possibly get sicker than a dog the first week of November. Lol

trail cam issues. I had it around 3.5' up and the as level as I could get it on a tree. But the IR flash was whiting out everything with in a 15' radius. So I raised almost shoulder high and I haven't had that problem yet. But still no pictures. I have the camera maybe. Maybe. 10' from the intersection of 5 major trails. I had the camera set to take PIR images and Flextime time lapse. I changed it straight PIR images no video. Haven't checked it since. That was Saturday morning. I have another camera in an area that I haven't hunted in 2 weeks. I will check it this Friday and see if it is doing any better.

I recently bought two Wildgame Innovation Micro Infrared 5.0MP. I'm not sure if I have bad SD cards. Or if I just have the settings slightly off. I am not getting any pictures. All I can get deer on is the FlexTime time lapse videos. Was wondering if anybody had any useful tips. I haven't used trail cameras in about 5 years or more. I'm new to this. I know I have one camera on a ridge. Facing north. Out of direct view of the sun. It faces a 6" rub. That I know was hit again since the camera was put up. I had 0 pictures and 0 videos. I know they are there because I have several deer on the Time Lapse. But the clips are too fast to get much detail when you pause them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

what would you guys do? I also hunt sw Missouri. In the mornings I'm in stand. Usually..15-20 minutes before legal shooting time. Giving time for the woods to settle back down after I go walking in. And in the afternoons. I'll eat lunch. Watch the wind. And head back to stand usually around 2-2:30. Given the deer movement. Sometimes thats too late. Like last weekend during the cold snap. I walked in at 2:10 and already had 4 does feeding within 50 yards of my chosen stand. During the rut and just before I will take lunch with me and sit all day. It's really just up to the deer. They get restless and get up and move around, graze. And go bed back down until they feel safe enough to head out for the evening.
-
Be patient and learn, or kill and go home? I've been doing it for 2 weeks now. Nothing aggressive. Just before dark when movement slows a little ill tickle some tines together. Nothing loud. Just hoping that whatever has been rubbing these trees might be get a little agitated and come in. But I feel as if it's still to early for a big mature buck. Had plenty of little bucks come check it out.
