The Kid
Well I'm looking at purchasing some kind of tripod rest for my gun. I have a little brother who is 12 that will be hunting next year with my 243, the only problem is that the gun is heavy and he can't hold it up. I want to get a pod with 3 legs to give it more stabilty. I've looked at the bogpod and the primos trigger stick. The trigger stick runs 125ish i think and I think I've seen the bog pod for around 80. Is there another brand or do you guys have any experience in the field with these equipment. Thanks

wtnhunt
Are you planning to hunt from the ground? If you are hunting from a ground blind keep in mind the window height. Have never used any tripods here, bipods have worked out ok for us for ground hunting. Ground blind setup we set in the bottom I built a shooting rail for out of conduit to help hold steady. Works out fairly well.
Rhino
Never used a tripod...I've used Stoney Point bipods both on the ground and in a treestand that didn't have a shooting rail though. I've taken youngsters turkey hunting & they've used one of my bipods with success too. Take Williams advice about ground blind wndow height clearance. Some won't extend out to be tall enough to get the proper height.
Flintlock1776
Your little brother may get antsy being young. I would also recommend a ground blind the two of you can occupy. Bring a book , iPod or whatever to keep him still and when you know something is afoot, then get him focused back into hunting. God luck and lets see pictures of the adventure! TBow
I've got a Harris extendable bi-pod on my .243 and am happy with it. At the restrictive costs of any of the commercial shooting sticks, tri, bi or single, I'd consider making my own. Man there's not really a lot to them. If you watch any of the big game hunting shows done in Africa, you'll see that some of the tri-pods that the guides carry for their clients is nothing more than 3 pieces of wood tied together at the top. OH YA! I can see a project coming out of this! TBow
Flintlock1776
With the blind I recommended you could actually fit this in there to help your little one take a comfortable shot: Cabela's: Timber Ridge Shooting Bench
dbHunterNY
I've got a Caldwell bipod that's good enough to sit on the ground and shoot. then i've got Gander Mountain bipod shooting sticks that go from downhill prone height to standing height. both work well. the double bull has lots of room, but a tripod will take up more room.
