HUNTINGMAN
I am in the market for some new arrows this year and was wondering if i could get some advice on witch gold tip would be a good choice. I have been useing the carbon express maxima hunters since they came out and love them, i just cant stand the thought of dropping another 140$ for a dozen arrows. I have the Expedition Hunter and the Velocity Hunter in mind. I know nothing about gold tips other than I have heard lots of good things about them and any advice or comments would be appreciated. My bow is shooting 29" draw at 70lb and my arrows are 27" long.
Ethan Givan
I have shot gold tips for about 3 or 4 years. I have never had any issues and I will not be changing anytime soon. For your setup you should be fine with the Expedition Hunter 5575 shafts, which is what I shoot. You could bump on up and shoot the 7595 shafts, your kinda on the on the line between the two. jcot2773
The XT hunter 5575 are best bang for the buck from gold tip. That is what i shoot. It also depends on the cam(s) on the bow. What bow is it?
dbHunterNY
you're right between 5575 and 7595 shafts being at 70 lbs, so i'd say the safe bet would be to go with stiffer 7595's. i used expedition hunters with no problems at all. they worked great! i could shoot 4" groups at 60 yards with them. so with their lesser tolerances they were still accurate enough and durable. if you shoot 3D at all or are horrible at judging yardage, then i'd think hard about the velocity hunters. you're 7595s in those shafts will be as light as 5575s in the other shafts. otherwise, the added weight will help in penetration. btw i got pass throughs on whitetail with 5575s and 60 lbs of draw weight. regardless either will work. What bow is it? Got a single cam Mathews switchback xt.
jcot2773
The switchback is not a very harsh cam. So the 5575 should suffice, however you may want to shoot the 7595 like stated above it will probably tune better.
Ravin R10 man
I shoot 55/75 out of my xt but then Im only at 60#..55# late season you may want the 75/95 Arrow Selection Chart
Tominator
I've been using the 7595 XT's for years, no need to change IMO, unless someone gives me free arrows.
Squirrelhunter91
I shot Goldtip XT Hunter 5575's for the last 3 years and they really are the toughest arrow you'll ever shoot. I shot them off my DXT at 27"/72#. Never had any issues with penetration til last year, but I changed the string and thats when I started having penetration issues. Since then, I've changed my bow and entire set up. Trying out the FMJ's this year. Have heard great things about them and I can't wait to put one through a critter. jcot2773
I would almost be willing to bet that the new string was out of spec and caused you loss of poundage and performance....
Squirrelhunter91
jcot.. those were my thoughts exactly. It was a VaporTrail string. The serving came undone multiple times and I just became fed up with it. Bow was 3 years old and I decided it was time to try something new. After 13 deer and countless others, it had served its purpose. But not to hijack the Goldtip thread, Goldtip arrows really are the toughest arrow you'll ever shoot. I've hit objects such as cement blocks, wood fences and even rocks and didnt have any break. All things that make my FMJ's shatter upon impact. I just like the idea of a heavy arrow and have heard great things about the FMJ's. Speed doesn't kill. Kinetic energy and shot placement do.
