Tony Posted August 1, 2011 Report Share Posted August 1, 2011 well i had to take a Hunter safety test this year. i want to hunt Colorado for elk next year and the only way i can hunt there is if i pass a hunter safety course. so i did the online option for the main test and it was long about 8 hours to complete. this past sat i had my field day. its where you take the final exam and then safe gun handling course. got to shoot some clay pigeons with a 20 gauge and i did pretty good, i broke 4 out of 5. i was expecting a a lot of young kids, but only 2 in a class of 23 was under 14 years old. a couple of guys were like me going to hunt out of state and need a hunter safety. it was a lot of fun and i actually learned a bunch of stuff. When my oldest daughter took hers about 6 years ago, I took it with her and it was mostly kids, there was a pretty big turnout there. Learned some things I never knew, very good class. Tennessee still has an age exemption not requiring any class for older hunters and landowners hunting their own property are not required to have taken the class. Mike most states recognize Bowhunter education or Hunter Safety as proper courses for you to take. iwent with Hunter safety because it is the most recognized one. i actually might take bowhunter ed just for fun. Ethan Givan Posted August 8, 2011 Report Share Posted August 8, 2011 Kentucky requires anyone 10 or older to take the Hunter Safety test. Anyone born before 1975 doesnt have to take it.
