If I'm not mistaken except for the hottest july record in 1980 the rest were in 1934-1936 that must have been some horrible summers stretching all the way to Tennessee.

I can't imagine dealing with this heat with no air conditioning!

Me either. AC ran all afternoon here yesterday, did not cut off til after dark.

Hit 106 here yesterday, that was the actual temp in the shade. Heard on the news some records were broke around here. Supposed to get a break tomorrow, only supposed to get to 93.

We have been talking quite a bit about that very subject here at work. Back then very few had electric and only a very small percentage of the population had AC until the early 60's. I managed to find an article that gave the number of heat realted deaths year over year. Back in the 30's it was thousands in Oklahoma.

Imagine this same heat without a fan, without ice, without AC or running water, etc.

By the way, I lost a LOT of chickens yesterday. I had several dead in the hen house. It was 118f in our parking lot yesterday, there was no breeze. It was still blazing when I got home. Ive been keeping water to all of the livestock but apparently its not enough to combat the heat. I had to take the shovel and remove several dead hens from the coop last night. I had a lot of chickens that didnt come to the coop at all. I think ill probalby find 5-8 laying around in fields and stuff when I get home tonight. Its sure taking its toll.

At least the humidity wasnt as bad yesterday. We have been averaging around 65%. That isnt too bad as its nothing for us to hit 90% or better. However, with this drought it wasnt as bad. I think we were in the mid 50% range yesterday.

.....I was worried about adjusting to the heat here when I got home, but I found it much easier to handle than the 85-90 degree temps with 80% humidity in PA.

It is super dry tho.... QUOTE]

This is probably true, but we can still make hay while the sun shines. I'm sure farmers up here would rather be miserable than broke and miserable. I'd work something out if I had a truck. My parents sell hay pretty quick. We get trucks coming in from places closer to cities where the price is jacked up all the time or horse people that have a small spread and too many "hay burners".

I know there has been a longstanding string of records for this area from 1934 and 1935, bad old global warming back then from all the cars on the roads and the greenhouse gases they were emitting.:rolleyes::p [/Quote]

Yup..it was Henry Ford's fault! Our hunidity has been broken here and we are now looking at low to mid 70's...think we are heading into our fall type weather
