Gong Show!!!!

Just got home from superguide jr's playoff game-what a crappy job of coaching by the opposition both their coaches got punted for the 'f' bomb. Kept sending kids out trying to get our guys to scrap. were under no fight orders as we have provincial finals next weekend and can't afford any suspensions. One kid took 40 minutes plus before the referee tossed him for twohanding Ty over the head-he's a lucky kid cause Junior can really chuck the knuckles. We whipped them on the scoreboard but have to go there for game two-real proud of our kids for playing through that bush league crap. In my bantam days you were allowed to fight and there was very little stick work-now some teams live by the lumber-gonna be sweet ending their season next wek.

Re: Gong Show!!!!

That is great: Glad you kept the players "in check" My g/f's uncle played in the NHL for years....From Sask: A great player (UND) Still holds the world record for fastest goal scored from opening face off (tied now by 2 others) point being: He wasnt' a scrapper, he could play and skate: Scrappers are good, but teaching them to play is 3/4 of the battle! Good Luck with the kids, eh?! smile.gif

Re: Gong Show!!!!

Come on do you really need a name with those clues :-)

From Moose Jaw, Holds a tied world record for fastest goal scored:......Point of it, was simply that they guy was known for his speed, and skating ability: Sometimes when a player needs someone like him to be an example of someone who made it without fighting his way into the league.

Hmmmm, I'm trying to get this without looking it up. S.W. Saskatchewan made me think Bryan Trottier to start with, but you are saying Moose Jaw specifically so now I'm thinking Clark Gillies, but he was a pretty good fighter and not really a speedster.

I don't know why, but I keep getting the feeling that he was an Islander. Someone like Bob Bourne. I guess I need another hint.

Re: Gong Show!!!!

All right: One more clue: Actually I said who it was in my reply and deleted it....Here you go he was the first player in from UND to score 4 goals in an NCAA championship game: He also won the 1980 most outstanding player in an NCAA tournament: Come on guys he is a Sask: Player...apparently not as good as I was lead to believe : -) Also, I think he played for winnepeg throughout the 80's before going to the North Stars: I'll let you know today.....

My whole point was the guy could skate: Not known for fighting like so many today are: Greats are known for something...:-)
