Scbasshunter Posted November 9, 2012 Report Share Posted November 9, 2012 I really like the idea of not having to wash Scent Lok clothes every time I hunt but think it is over priced. I think some UA is reasonably priced but I feel like it would need to be washed every time I hunt just like my regular hunting clothes I have now. I get tired of washing my hunting clothes so much. It seems like my regular hunting clothes stink after absorbing even a little sweat. Hunting in SC, especially early bow season, I don't have a choice but to sweat. Same question about the Under Armour scent control line. I have surfed the web for the UA info but all I can find is that it's 10x stronger than carbon. soillap Posted November 9, 2012 Report Share Posted November 9, 2012 I wear under armour everything and store them in a tote in the garage. I wash them once a year unless something is on them. I find scent block overrated seems as how 80% of your scent comes from your head not mention the stuff is hard on the wallet. Nature gives a natural scent block when you put the wind in your face and its free. I'm not going to say I've never been busted but its pretty rare. Maybe it's just me but my clothes seem to not be fresh after walking to my stand and climbing up a tree, especially when it is warm out like it usually is here in SC. Walking in I usually won't have my hoodie or jacket on ill wait till I get to my location. I try to minimize my layers to avoid a big sweat. My step dad is a pretty accomplished bow hunter and he actually rubs his clothes in the dirt then stores them in a container. I've never seen anyone else do that but it seems to work for him. Go to Walmart and buy one of the $18 plastic totes, the kind that looks like a chest with the lid attached. Wash your hunting clothes in scent free/eliminating detergent, dry them and put them right in the tote. If you want to "impregnate" them with a cover scent, get some of the earth scented plastic wafers and drop a couple in the tote with your clothes. Rotate the waffers to recharge them every couple of times you wear your clothes. Take care to reduce what you expose your hunting clothes to, so don't wear them around the house, go to the store, ect. If you're not hunting, your clothes should be in the tote. Whenever possible, carry in one of your layers to reduce sweating. Also, carry a bottle of scent eliminating spray to the stand, and once you are in the stand spray yourself down again. That is taking it to the extreme, but that is what it sounds like you are looking for. I'd say 90% of my hunting gear is UA, and I love it. Just like the scent wafers, which are plastic. I think you are putting too much worry into your gear. Yes, it is a good practice to keep your gear scent controlled. They stay in a plastic tote sealed up in the back of the truck. When I get where Im hunting, I pull them straight out of the tote, put them on, and walk to the stand. When I get back to the truck, they come off, and go back in the tote. The clothes never see the inside of the truck or house. When I get home I will pull them out and hang them outide and let the wind blow through them a few hours. May even spray them down with scent-a-way before putting them back in the tote. I have 2 pair of socks, underwear & T-Shirts that ill rotate along with my undergarments (UA cold gear, etc) in one tote with earthwafers beside my night stand. That is what I hop out of the shower into and wear driving to farm. Then have 2nd Tote I leave in truck with all my outer garments, gloves, hats etc. I wash my undergarments every weekend and only wash outers if necessary. I also use black carbon powder that I put on my hands, face & hair at truck. For breath control....I keep a bottle of mouthwash in my truck that I'll gargle to kill bacteria in mouth and then gargle/drink water. Spray down & giddy up! You can be just as scent control effective with a cheap pair of pants & sweatshirt/jacket from Walmart as you can with any of the high dollar scent control gear. Another vital important thing to do is during hunting season, convert to scent free body wash, fragrance free deodorant & lotion ALL the time....EVERY day....not just when your hunting. I NEVER use regular shampoo/conditioner, axe body wash or any scented deodorant during hunting season, even during the week for work when I'm not hunting. Some people take the high dollar scent apparel for granted and think they're putting on an invisible hunting suit to block colognes & smelly crap....BIG MISTAKE!!!
