titleist_03
Saw this video this morning and it got me thinking. I've never had this scenario play out, but I'm pretty sure I'd do the same thing as her. Basically, the girl had hunted the same deer for three years in a row and could never get it done. This year, while hunting for the target deer in a food plot, a mature buck stepped out that was injured. Rather than passing the injured deer and waiting for the deer she was hoping for, she elected to take the injured deer. The deer she ended up harvesting was a mature 3.5 buck that had a bullet wound and was survivor of EHD. I would hate to see the animal suffer. Given the opportunity to harvest a wounded animal, regardless of size, I feel harvesting is the right thing to do even if that means my season is over and I could no longer harvest the buck I was after. What would you do? https://vimeo.com/57384196
wtnhunt
Allowed to kill 3 bucks during our season here, so it would not end my season. Besides that we have 3 other hunters hunting our farm, so even if it did end my season I could hold out hopes that one of my girls would kill my target buck. whitetailfreak55
Ya i would harvest him. Rather would have my arrow/bullet then let nature take its time doing it for him

wadeocu
I don't think your going to see anyone around here answer that one differently. Of course I have a 3 buck limit too, so maybe if it was the one buck for the year or if it was a scrubby little spike it would make it tough. It's the right thing to do though, so I think most would. fly
What would you do? We get 2 bucks in IL. If IL had a 1 buck limit and it was opening day of our near 4 month season- well I wouldn't be able to answer until the time came.
Ethan Givan
We have a 1 buck limit here (and I hope it stays that way) so it would end my season to shoot an injured buck. I would probably take the shot on most wounded deer, however I think it would depend on the severity of the injury. I have seen/heard of deer that survived several years with only 3 good legs. It would just depend on the situation and if I decide that the deer will not heal up and be able to recover.
hoosierhunter
What would you do? Most ppl would shoot the deer but that's bc they have multiple buck limits. In a true one buck scenario my guess is that it depends on whether your a trophy hunter or not. Your strict trophy hunters pass the buck almost 100% of the time. The only other plausible answer is applying the party hunting method which in most cases is illegal.
