lizziepaige15
I'm a new hunter (starting next year!) and I mostly bow hunt. Anyone have any tips for me? Thanks for any help I can get
redkneck
Just practice so that you have confidence in your abilities, and know your limitations, be patient, and learn that there are many rewards that come from sitting in a tree besides killing a deer. Good luck to you!

dbHunterNY
if you're a person who reads buy this book... Strategies for Whitetails: Charles J. Alsheimer: 9780896893313: Amazon.com: Books then don't get sloppy or carefree when hunting. keep things you've read and learned in mind and abide by them. learn what the wind does not just which direction the forecast says it's blowing. get out there and hunt. Learn from every experience/outing. Hunt where the deer are and not where you think they should be. After a while the two locations will start to be one in the same... sometimes anyway. Most of all enjoy the experience, preferably with others but sometimes not.

msman825
Welcome to RT, A little more info about you would help, like your age, what are you going to be hunting for, what type of hunting, ground, treestand, food plot or open woods
dbHunterNY
just practice shooting your bow similar to as you would hunting. practice yardage estimation a lot and, if you can, get a range finder. the best thing you can do is simply think about what you need to do to make that shot on whatever you're shooting. if you think about the process and pick a small spot on the animal, it helps keep all the emotions ("buck fever") suppressed until after you make that shot. Usually if you do this things work out. Don't get discouraged when things go wrong, because at some point they will. It happens to everybody. You'll get busted trying to draw or rush and miss. Just try to learn from the mistakes and try again next time. Keep safety in mind and I have no doubt you'll have fun experience you'll remember you're whole life. fly
In addition to above: Find a location to hunt that has the game you are after. Scout the area out before the season starts and try to determine travel patterns for that time of year.

RangerClay
None of my friends bowhunted so I was completely on my own. I did a lot of reading on Archerytalk.com but the biggest thing I did to help become a better archer was joining a league at my local shop. It forced me to practice and I had others shooters to ask questions from. Everyone was really friendly and it helped me develop good form.
