Scbasshunter
I always hear that your first time in a stand is your best chance at killing a deer in it. I'd like to hear everybody's opening day/weekend setup and everybody give feedback on other's setup. Mine is a 15 ft ladder stand in an opening between some woods and a pond. The area is surrounded by woods and is right next to a couple large oaks. The deer should be moving through it to go by the pond then eventually on to a field. I sat here last year in a climber and had a nice 8pt walk in behind me but turn around and leave. I had a shot at him but I already took my buck for last season. I also had a doe come in at 10 yds but couldn't get turned to get a shot. It should be a great spot and hopefully have a buck or two come through in shooting light. whitetailfreak55
I have a few different spots to choose from but won't know which one to hunt till I find out which way the wind is out of.
Scbasshunter
Opening weekend setup. I should have a South wind so assuming the deer read the script and come from where they are supposed to... the wind will be good. The thing about a spot like mine is that deer could legitimately come from anywhere.
whitetailfreak55
Thats good. Spray down before you walk in and when you get to your stand and take your time. Hopefully you'll have some pictures for us! Good luck!
SouthGaHuntingandOutdoors
Waiting on Sept 14th here in Ga. My opening day will be just like my last day this past season, lock on stand, scent control, and bow in hand. We've got about 10 different spots to hunt on the property. The wind decides which stands get used!
wtnhunt
I have a few different spots to choose from but won't know which one to hunt till I find out which way the wind is out of. Yep, wind and sign will tell me where I want to go. Some of our stands are out year round, will be hanging hangons in the next few weeks and also hang one of my climber for an alternate. Almost always see deer the opening day and have had plenty of opportunities, but have never killed one opening of archery. I always hear that your first time in a stand is your best chance at killing a deer in it. Don't know that I would believe that. Killed plenty on muzzleloader and rifle openers. Things usually pick up here later on in the season. Best chance to kill a good deer on our property is usually closer to the rut.
hoosierhunter
Opening weekend setup. First time ever in a stand is your best chance, not just opening day. The deer haven't been educated to a predator in that location is the reasoning behind it.
redkneck
I don't think that far ahead. Lot of acorns to drop before then and more scouting and weather, etc. I still got stands to hang before then. Still 9 more weeks to go here. WStreblo
Opening weekend setup. I'm meat hunting my cousins 80 acres opening day. This is the doe whackin and management buck year on his property and since I shot the buck last year it's his year to arrow a buck. I won't hunt my buck setup til Oct on my parents property. The 455 acre farm I also hunt... Well that's where I will bounce to for some change in scenery. Here at the house my setups are for the quick hunts before dark after work or the mid day hunts between the big farm and the parents set up
bowhunter97
Hunting behind my grandpas house. We've been seeing deer back there and feeding em for a little while and recently they started coming every now and then. I think its because the rut is starting to kick and this is the right time for it down here. But i'll be just sitting in a blind chair in the center of some tall weeds seeing that the side of the field my stand is on is in belly deep water and the other side i'll be on isnt. So hopefully. Can shoot one on video and show yall.
WStreblo
Opening weekend setup. I don't know where your at bowhunter97 but it seems early for the rut to be kicking just about anywhere.

Ravin R10 man
Yup, first time in is the best
Rhino
I'll have plenty of options to choose from. For the most part, the wind direction is going to make my mind up for me. Won't know what direction it will be for sure until it's time to hunt. What shows up on the cams before then will also be a factor.
