I have a 25-06 and shots will range from close to 250-300 at the most. right now I am just trying to find a good shell that shoots good in my gun. right now i have some federal 117 gr that i haven't shot yet. I have killed about 50 or 60 deer with Ballistic tips over the past 20 or so years. The early ones were prone to fragment, but that problem was fixed within a year or two of their debut. They have been absolutely great for many years !!!! I have made shots as close as 3, yes three yards, and as far as 400, with BT's in 6mm, .25, 7mm, and .30 caliber. The .25-06 spits the 117 to 120 gr bullets at modest velocities (~3000 fps) so blow up is not that bad. If it were me, I would use which ever big game bullet shot the best. My buddys 7600 .308 Win shoots them so good it is almost not right...lol. After I saw him shoot those .5-.75" groups with ballistic tips at 100 yards I thought to myself that I gotta try those. They shot horrible in my 700 30-06. I could not hold a 4" group if my life depended on it. Not sure why, but my rifle hates them. Alot do like them though...so thats cool. For them. There are countless different ballistic tip loads, and some are better quality than others, just like with standard bullets. sendero270hunter, are those 1" groups you are getting at 200 yards the norm or happen occasionally?
