Should have been a good season, passed a lot of bucks last fall. Took our youngest daughter for the youth hunt and we saw just a few deer and I thought we could do better, she opted to pass on a 6 pt. Didn't make it out much for archery, did not see much, but did have a decent buck come through just out of range. Killed him on the muzzleloader opener less than a week later story here http://forums.realtree.com/forum/gen...eloader-opener. Killed a few yotes, other than that been letting the wife go, gave up the best time with hopes of er getting a shot on a wallhanger. Trail cam pics in proven locations been very slow this year. The does just are not here like years past.

Wife shot/at a nice buck with the muzzleloader, probably upper 120's on the 16th. We looked for nearly 3 hours and found no sign she hit it. She took our youngest daughter on Tuesday afternoon and 10 year old Allison put a good shot on her first deer ever with her mothers .243 story here http://forums.realtree.com/forum/mis...ngest-daughter, same deer she passed up a few weeks earlier.

Now thats a DEEP hole for a shallow mind! j/k.lol

Gun season caught end of rut, bucks dropped off radar after first day, not moving in daylight AT ALL.

Actually, and with no surprise, we knew it would be a slow season here,; we have a couple 10 pts, my bowkill 8pt, a 6pt, oh and a fork.

ML season is coming in, I may sit next w.e.

and late bow season goes till Jan 3rd

I put a small buck on the ground Monday which was opening day shotgun for Mass, it had been a pretty poor season thus far for whatever reason, I think because of how warm the weather had been during the pre rut stages, anyways, I had this guy come in around 9:45 Monday morning all by himself, he came from my right on a direct line to me, he got to about 15 yards or so and started to angle down the mountain as he fed, he got to a large opening only about 20 yards away and at that point I already had my bead on him and finger on the safety etc., he took one look at me and with the wind swirling a little bit I didn't give him a chance to think twice, I let him have it, he dropped like a ton of bricks and my Remington slugger put a 1" diameter plus enter and exit hole in him, not a big one but meat in the freezer and something I work hard for each year.

took a 3.5 yr old buck during bow season; 18.5" spread and 176lbs dressed weight.

rifle took a 5.5 yr old doe; dressed weight of 119lbs. doe hunt lasted 7 minutes.

...had egg, cheese, and venison breakfast sandwiches past few mornings. have yet to break into the sweet Italian sausage. got steaks and roasts vac packed in a deep freeze. I've got stuff to grind vac packed awaiting to be turned into just ground, summer sausage, or spicy hot dogs with cheese.

I've got a seasoning and citrus marinaded, walnut encrusted, steak recipe from Chef Daniel Boulud and a couple others I'm trying soon. Rather cook it myself than go down to NYC and have it for $80 a plate ala carte. haha

pretty picky now to take another deer. could still happen.

Hey there Tim! Hope all is well with you and the family. Was down on my land in the Hill Country of Texas in April and shot a, free range Axis buck and Muntjac. This Oct 1st I arrowed a 98" 6pt here in Rockland and last Tuesday afternoon my son Joe dragged me out of the house to sit on the other side of this piece of woods with the slug gun while he was checking his traps. A big bodied cow horn spike ran right me and I helped him hit the dirt. Joe has shot a few does( he is buckless so far this year) and his girlfriends first year hunting. She has 2 does and one buck in the freezer. We have been having a good season. A few pics. Talk to you soon.

Overall...OK Tim. The BIG one I was after in MO disappeared...B&C class buck 16 point...main frame 12 point. Last trail cam pic of him was on 9/13 (trail cam pics posted in team 3 thread). EHD hurt us bad in MO this year. So far we've found 14 deer dead from EHD and we haven't walked the woods looking either. Most were in the general area where I was trying to hunt the big one. By mid Nov., I feared he had probably died from EHD too. Had pics of him all through the season last year so never had an issue keeping tabs on him in 2014. After the season is over I'm going to walk all the creeks in the area to search for him.

Anyway...bagged this MO buck on 11/20.

Here in MS I killed the oldest buck I've ever killed...shot him on 12/6. We named him Capt. Hook last year..,right ear torn up & blind in his right eye from fighting. He was a 140 class buck last year & figured his age at 6.5 years old last year. Went downhill this year as an old man. Pulled the jawbone...teeth worn out more than any buck I've ever killed. Posted trail cam pics in our team thread (team 3) comparing him last year to this year.
