too_pointer
Re: Time to Rooon-daaaay-vooooo!! I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about Out shooting club has muzzleloader days, and a few black powder cannon shoots at the national guard ranges. Is this what you are referring too ? or are you talking about civil war, or cowboy kind of stuff ? too_pointer

magnatecsteve
Re: Time to Rooon-daaaay-vooooo!! A Rendezvous was an annual event held during the fur trade era where the trappers and hunters...or Mountain Men... would come to to cash in their furs and to buy equipment and supplies for the next season. It usually was a pretty rowdy event back in those days with gambling, drinking, fighting, hookers, ..pretty much anything goes. They often had shooting matches and other competitions too. There are alot of people who re-enact these rendezvous still today, but they're not so rowdy and are usually more for educational purposes and open to the public. There are many club rendezvous too which may not be public and are sometimes geared towards super authenticity of gear, clothing, food, and even personification. I am into an earlier era than the Mountain Man days, more the French and Indian Wars and the Revolution. I go on treks through places like the Daniel Boone National Forrest. A trek is a hike, through very remote and usually historic areas, where we try to get as "period correct" as we can from our weapons, clothes, food, and what we say...no talk about modern day. We carry what we need, usually eating dried foods like jerky, dried outs, parched corn, corn meal, dried fruits, nuts.... We carry water purification tablets, the only modern thing allowed usually besides medication and one cell phone in case of a life or death emergency only. We usually camp in "rock houses", which are large boulders that slope in at the bottom, some so big they look like an ampitheatre the way they extend out onto the air. We usually travel around 15 miles or so in three days...through some ROUGH country..in moccasins. It's a BLAST!!

hutchies
Re: Time to Rooon-daaaay-vooooo!! It just ended her. They have all kinds of fur traders, axe throwing contests, smooth bore and rifled contests as well as pistol. They have the old fashion Doctor Fogworth's Rootbeer and all that good stuff.
