Excited and impressed, he stops the first person he meets, "Good day Mr. American, thank you to accept me in your wonderful country, and..." The person interrupts and says: "I am not American, I'm Mexican." The Pakistani continues on and meets another passerby, "Thank you Mr. American for to let me come here, make much money and send for my family...." Again, he is interrupted by his newly stopped passerby: "I no be American, I be Serb!" The Pakistani strolls further and accosts yet another pedestrian, "Mr. American, me thank you for hospitality you give..." "But my friend, don't you see I'm black, I'm African, not American." The newly arrived Pakistani tries again, and again to stop an American, to proffer his thank you, each time he is told that the person is not an American, but is Haitian, or Jamaican, or from India, from the Dominican Republic, or elsewhere. Finally, the Pakistani, in exasperation, asks, "Where are the Americans?" A passing Mexican looks at his Rolex watch and says, "Oh they don't get off work til five o'clock!"
