HarvDog
I'm having a heck of a time cutting in on a very high ceiling around my main staircase. I haven't been able to position my ladder in an effective manner and I can't get close enough (for my taste) with one of those painting pads (with the little wheels). Thoughts? Suggestions? I can post some pix if necessary.

Tominator
Re: Any painters out here? Ummmm Sherm, you want to handle this one? LOL. Scaffolding Harv. Or extension pole that screws into your roller or pad? Be careful.
buckee
Re: Any painters out here? In stairwells I use a multi-ladder, which gets me up and down the stairs fairly easy. They adjust for stairs and can be used as an extention ladder or step ladder too. I don't like those cut-in pads, because if you get a drop of paint on the wheels, you've just ruined your ceiling and they don't cut in close enouph for my liking. You may need an bigger extention ladder for the really high parts. Stairwells, are never much fun to do, even for a house painter like myself. If you don't have a multi-ladder you could rig up a scaffolding by coming off of your extention ladder with a couple of sturdy planks, and then working off of the planks with a small step-ladder, but the planks must be supported from underneath, so they don't move under your weight, or your in trouble. Besides screwing up the entire job if you get paint on the wheels, I have never found one that get close enough. Most leave a 1/8 - 1/4" unpainted line. UGH ...I'm not bitter ...can you tell??? HarvDog
Re: Any painters out here? Here are some pictures. As you can see given the space between the staircase, the ladder isn't much help near the top...

buckee
Re: Any painters out here? Yeah those pads don't get too close, do they. I cut-in by hand, with a good 21/2" sash brush. and for those high spots like that, I maake sure the cut in is wide, like 3-4" so it's not so hard to roll without hitting the ceilings. It looks like you almost have it all cut-in harv, what's the problem, besides the not-so-great pad cut??

It was getting late and I was getting frustrated about the whole cutting in thing.
